  • are you turning dry wood or green a great video thank you for posting

  • Hyvä Antti, siinä ei kauaa nokka tuhise!

  • 0.0'

  • Beautiful job Antti! I hate to say I still need sand paper. Do you have other videos out there specific to tool sharpening? Thanks Skip

  • Not that Quickness of cutting someting is the most important, because it is not but that is the quickest cutting on a lathe I think I have ever seen without damage to the project. I am not talking about RPM's, I am talking about start to finish work time. - You clearly have a lot of experience and know the limits of all involved. I think the sharpness of your tools are supreme and your chuck design is improtant. You talent / technique of course, is evident in your quickly done project. AAA+++

  • bravissimo

  • Totally in awe, WE'RE NOT WORTHY! Great work.

  • How do you figure the lathe's correct speed?

  • Pretty cool. I can't wait to try it myself. Any advice?

  • AWESOME !! I thought it was GREAT !! Thanks you so much. It gives me hope !!!!

  • It truly takes a master craftsman to make the impossible look so easy! What a beautiful piece.

  • I bought the Nova Midi chuck from woodcraft a month or so ago because it was closeout at at $90, and finally tried to do this. it WORKED!! I am going to buy a bigger chuck so that I can use a larger size material... I tried it with round stock, didnt work. then I used square stock and it worked great. I was not turning a fast as the video, only once did the piece fly out of the chuck.. now I have the bug and gonna play tomorrow!!

  • Increadible work I can't wait to try it myself.

  • is it a Nova G3 chuck?

  • Never thaught of using a square piece in the jaws like that.I will try it. thanks for a good tip.I have always turned a ball on the end to work off centre but your way looks easier

  • By the way, did you part that bottom off with your skew chisel? I never tried using that for parting...do you find it better than using the parting tool?

  • Very good job. I have to try this someday!

    ...bert

  • Very nice!

  • awesome

  • What is the size of that ring tool you are using? I'm going to get one myself and that size seems pefect. Great video by the way.

  • its 12mm...

  • Oh how I need a new chuck....

  • Awesome video. I just had my first experience with a lathe and was attempting to make a Goblet. Watching this made me fell the extreme novice sure took me longer then five minutes Ha. I was curious what tools you used there. I could not make them out very well it looked like the ringtool you mentioned and a Skew, is that all? I was also surprised how much wood you took off with one pass, if I try going that deep tool will grab.

  • Very cool! Have you tried doing one with a captive ring on it too? That would look really cool too.

  • Thought it was good

  • That should be an OSHA training film, just kidding, GREAT JOB.

  • you make it look soooo easy! ;] great job

  • Nice Job. That is a very impressive piece of turning and technique. How do you finsih (sand) something like that?

  • No need to sand if you do it correctly and your tools are sharp enough. But if for some reason there is need to sand, then its to trash and new piece of wood :)

  • @shovel53 Spoken like a true craftsman.

  • Very nice job. I am using your video as a tutorial of sorts to take my next step in turning. Thanks

  • Nice. You know that almost looks like a bird. If you made the cup part with a round head and cone on top it would look like a bird looking up at the sky.

You should make some chess or game pieces.

  • I have tried to make several of these and i have broken every one of them, when i turn the essentric part. I have tried oak, maple, cherry and wenge in hopes of strength but no luck. What wood are you using, and what rpm's are you turning at?

  • I am using birch and about 2000 rpm in lathe, but it's not really about the wood its the technique :) just concentrate to watch the outer figure of of the piece when it is turninbg, i.e. imagine it as it would be full (not sure how to explain this....)

  • beutiful work by the way

  • what is the tool that you used to hallow the goblet called?

  • It's Hamlet ringtool 12mm
