Wow deepdeepspace, this is no advancement, this is the same shit we flew to the moon in during apollo. And shuttles aren't meant to fly to the moon, they were built for near Earth missions like satellite depolyments and to fly to the ISS. With this in mind, its reasonable to assume that is why the shuttles are grounded.
Because they are "not used to" the earth's gravity quite yet. You have to remember that two of the crew (not the tourist) have probably spent about 6months in the space station, and even though they train every day, the muscles and skeleton inside your body is significantly weaker than if you were on the earth.
Ah interesting, I didn't know the manned part of the Soyuz was basically a ball. Explains how its able to land on solid ground versus splashing down in the ocean ala Apollo era capsules
More like a Bullet, with a short burst of retro rocket right before touch down to soften impact. the Apollo Space craft were supposed to be able to hit land also with Three good chutes. Not sure I would have wanted that option though
HA HA HA!! in the background we can heard someone shouting in spanish "Michael, cuando David me deje te he traido el jamón!!" something similar to "michael, when David allows me I give you the ham!!" refering to michael Lopez-Alegria, obviously from hispanic origin
C'est vrai que c'est un peu rude comme retour. Ça paraît moins éprouvant avec la navette. Cela dit, il ne faut pas oublier que deux des cosmonautes rentrent d'un vol longue durée.
No Space Shuttle and No Runway Landing. You will be dragged across the earth and you will be pull out like an invalid from a capsule. This is Advancement???
In 47 years of human spaceflight, the score so far: 16 dead American astronauts, one dead Israeli astronaut in American spacecraft, 4 dead Russian cosmonauts in Russian spacecraft. I like Russian odds better!
You ignore the fact that crew capacities for the Shuttles are twice that of Soyuz. 14 died on two (out of 122) Space Shuttle missions and 4 died in two (out of 98) Soyuz missions. That's it for in-flight fatalities. Your odds are more or less the same.

I suspect NASA does that too, except that it happens inside the Shuttle.

@wwefan774977 because they just re-entered the atmosphere in a russian craft. And the landing didn't look exactly super soft either

@wwefan774977 and you've really earned the bit of relaxing after landing :D

This is What America has to look forward to,

On the contrary, it works just as well. Only it's a shit load cheaper, believe it or not.

Yes this is advancement. You can't send a space shuttle to the moon.
But you can send a soyuz space craft to the moon. As well as the upcoming Orion space craft.

I didn't realize how frail the astronauts/cosmonauts looked after being in space for so long.

They only use one parachute?! The Apollo capsule used three! What happends if the one doesn't work?!
