  • manley is absolutley best on this voice no doubt. i really didn't like the 2 others they sounded unnatural on the highs..

  • The manley is the winner!

  • What is the closest to an old C12..(made today)..this Manley? It sounds really, I guess, kind of perfect

But for now I will have to go for a AKG 414XLS as my first good recording mic..very reluctantly..

I really do not understand, once a person gets into the U87 price range that they just dont hold off & go for a mic that is this excellent(Manley).?

  • I really liked the manley, but it did bring forward quite a bit of sibilance, so in this case, If I was in the studio, I might go for the K2. Slightly smoother sounding on the sibilance but still had a nice body and air to it.

  • 1- Manley

    2- Rode

    3- JJlabs

Manley had the best overall sound with the rode as a close second... JJ was too thin in my opinion.

should shoot out Miktec Cv4 and Mojave MA-200 with these... mojave is my fave so far in my ventures.

  • why is there reverb? or is that the room? in any case, my vote goes to the manley hands down. clear and detailed yet warm and smooth.

  • @werdnandrew24 its reverb... not the room... read the signal chain.

  • Well, after watching all of your shootout videos I decided to buy a pair of the Rode K2s since I needed a pair of mics that I could also use for other sources such as female vocals, and acoustic sources. Great job on the shootout and probably the best test system I have seen to let you hear just the differences in the mics. I already own a bunch of other high end mics but I must say that the Rode K2 is easily the best bang for the buck. Not the best mic ever, but a huge value for sure.

  • @costinvaly1 Why did you attack him for stating his preference? I suppose you either own a k2 or a u87ai? Well they both suck, Neumann is garbage, now that they have suck a big name, they slack on quality. That's why pros with the cash get the telefunken u87. Don't bash people for having an opinion

  • By the way the U87 (talk about over priced) sounds great (had them for years) but still can't hold up to the Manley! Hands down the Manley is the best vocal Mic on the planet!

  • MANLEY by far the best sounding Mic!, worth every penny!!! You get what you pay for and more with the Manley!

  • That RÖDE sounded very weird, when she pitched i could swear i heard some really wierdly high sound at the same time

  • Manley, Rode, JJLabs. My choices. I'm mighty impressed with the bargain priced Rode. That Manley is just overpriced.

  • i hear some computerized noise in the background idk if that was an effect but i dnt like it

  • lady singer it. name

  • rode k2 has a less dynamic contour. it holds up a frequency range nicely though. manley has a classic sound and is full and very airy. this passage but fits it accordingly. EHR1 is airy and a bit thin but sounds great in this type of genre.

  • First appreciated the shoot outs a lot !!!!

Love the song and the lady singer !!

Have one question and maybe there will be a male shoot out next time .

How will these fine mic's do on a male vocalist ?

  • TROLL!

  • The concept of open sound on Manley is good for non-voise people

To my mind a good copy of old c12 will be much more usable

Cause you can also shout on it and it will sound good as well

I tried using silver capacitors on my mic and it gave this effect of open highs

But the problems with "SS" and loud vocal appeared immediately

  • Without a doubt, Manley Ref C.

  • @allenpamscofield why? because is more expensive? look at rode k2, u can make industry music without noticable difference to make you go up to 3275 euros for manley ref C, maybe if u're a fan of expensive mics., the best buy would be neumann u87ai at 2000euros and should be expensive enough for money spending fans.

  • I own a Manley Ref C also, and this is why, it is world class, easy win. The Rode K2 did ok, and takes second place.

  • Manley is a clear winner in my tastes for this particular voice. Nice and tight low end, but not too muddy or low mid congested. Plenty of air but not harsh, overall very "Hi-fi" sounding.

JJlabs is pretty thin sounding and has a weird high midrange emphasis that isn't pleasing for this voice/song.

Rode seems like it's tamer than the JJlabs in the area I mentioned before, but lacks some "excitement", maybe too much emphasis on the nasally frequencies for her voice?

    Great shootout!

  • Manley - wow :)

  • that rode isnt too shabby considering the price point, but the manly def has nice color

  • Manley wins the tubes, but I wouldn't use a tube with her voice, a balanced condenser would work best, the tube is a bit too edgy.

  • i use a manley ref,an ive gotto say,it truly is an amazing microphone..

  • just came from the dynamic shootout. I was definitely shocked when I heard the Manley haha

  • The Manley sounds the best. Of course it does--it costs 2700USD and God hates me.

  • i dislike EHR1 and rodek2 , sounds cheap and harsh on her voice, no dynamics and energy at all

    manley is winner !

  • i saw the three of the video shootout..

and played it again and again

i think this lady need AKG12VR hehe..

anyways the most mic that fit to her is Sontronics Saturn

thanks a lot for doing this shootout guys, appreciated :)

  • @ghaibboy without the VR :)

  • You should have included the Sony C800GPAC.
