I saw the DVD and when they got to the "TEAR DOWN THE WALL" part ... I mean, I KNEW the wall was going to crumble. I saw the movie. I heard the album. I know how this goes and what was going to happen. But my heart STILL started racing! Even now, I'm getting goosebumps watching it!
If I could go back in time, I would attend this concert! :D
Well, I was in Berlin in Oct'88 and to think that the Wall came down a year later still blows my mind..I will always cherish seeing both sides of it with all its obvious symbolisms. It must have given chills to everybody there to see it recreated a year after it atually fell. This concert, with whatever narrative flaws, must have been bigger than anything when it hit the stage. If I could go back in time for any one concert, it would be this one.
I was 19 when I first saw this simply great show on TV, on 1990... I was sitting in my living room, speaking out loud "tear down the wall" as the people in Berlin did.
@stefo213 Oh, it's him! I guess the costume was too misleading, I couldn't see him at the first glance. He's an amazing singer and a very talented performer! *-*
I was in Berlin the past week...why couldn't I open this part of the concert??!?!?!?Youtube didn't let me get into this part, when the Wall goes down....is there censure?!?!? :-O
The judge does an incredibly piss-poor job, which is unfortunate, because The Trial is my favorite part of the whole album/ show. He needed much more anger, more fire. What a shame.
The schoolmaster's role in this song is the best supporting singer in the whole concert. And he's not even fantastic. I've watched the whole concert now and although I worship The Wall incredibly, I cannot say anything else than that I am very disappointed in the choices of covering artists in this show. I feel that none of them has understood the concept or their own role in it. Wailing, making songs samba-style, etc.
The schoolmaster is the ONLY person who interpreted his role correctly.
im very intrueged at your comment, i agree with you, however, i only agree to an extent, i think that yeah, Roger could have chosen better singers, but in 1990, the singers were more or less at the top of there game, i think bryan adams, van morisson, ute lemper and the scorpions all do well, and of course the band, im a huge fan of pink floyd and the wall myself, i find it hard to remember sometimes that this concert has nothing to do with pink floyd, it is after all a charity gig.
@hunkydorey2 : Well, yes, I have no real complaints about neither the Scorpions' nor Bryan Adam's singing, as their roles simply were to sing rock songs and nothing else. But The Wall is, as you know very well, a rock opera with persons, roles and acting involved. Yes, when someone is asked to sing a song, he or she is allowed to interpret the song and put a personal style on it, to a certain extent. But when the tweaking interferes with the concept as a whole, there must be actions taken.
@Henkibojj unfortunately all the big names of rock of that period refused the invitation of Waters to partecipate in the show... shame on them, they lost a chance to be part of the history ...
Yeah , it's a point of view . I respect it BUT I'm on another point . I think it was the better version ever made of the wall , in voice , show , visual and sound effects I've seen The Wall 80' Tour in video and the wall tour of roger waters in Paris .

Two of the worst symbols in modern history combined… The hammer and sickle and the goosestep we have forgotten indeed

The only thing that would have made the end of "Waiting For The Worms" better would have been to have actual 50 ft tall hammers walk across the stage

I think the studio version of The Trial is better... I mean; Tim Curry's ok, as is the teacher; but the rest of them SUCK.
The orchestra and choir add the extra backing needed; but I've already talked about the characters.
