At first, I thought this show was produced by Heatter/Quibley since this is a version of 'High Rollers', but Jack Barry was hosting so it's a Jack Barry production.
Well, this wasnt really a broadcast. It was from a feed from the tape recording it. They had devices to record and play in stereo as early as '67 I think.
Originally, this was recorded on videotape. But thinking CBS was goind to erase this like he thought they did to TJW, he had it kinescoped. Then, around 2000, TJW, Spinoffs, and this were found in a vault in New York.
@Chris778 Actually the reason S.O.S. was chosen as a distress signal was that it was short and thus easy to transmit. The whole "Save Our Ship" (not to mention "Save Our Souls") business is considered a "backronym" at Wikipedia. Also, sometime since was produced, it was determined that camels store their water in their blood, rather than the stomach.
According to what I have been told on the invision boards, there is a version of this pilot that was shot on videotape. It was sold by shokus video years ago, and doesn't feature the slate. They probably made kinescope copies of those pilots, just in case wherever Barry was taking it to didn't have a two-inch VTR in the building.

Wow this sounds like the precursor to catch 21 !!

I think I'd prefer this game if they used real dice like on High Rollers.

This kind of makes me think of "High Rollers." This is a great idea I think it would make a great game. Just a name change.

Barry must have taped this just days after the Joker's Wild finale.

Although the audio sounds like that it is in Mono, it's actually in Stereo.

In stereo???? They were 10 years ahead of their time! First stereo TV broadcast wasn't until '84, I think.

PTH4Fun 3 years ago

The slate makes this clear that this is the 2nd pilot.

Were they afraid of using a dice table to roll the dice in the main game (instead of using a button to stop a pair of electronic dice)?
I suppose they didn't want to rip off High Rollers.

The buzz-in sound was borrowed from "Tattletales".
Rlotpir1972 3 years ago
Personally, I thought it was "Press Your Luck."
thewhammy83 3 years ago
The PRess Your Luck Buzz In was a variation of the Tattletales buzz.

I love how, when he says "numbers 2 through 12", he holds up 7 fingers.

Why is this a film print?
heine71 3 years ago
This is how I got it. Maybe it was filmed and not taped; I am not sure.
thewhammy83 3 years ago
Color kinescope, I guess...

Shokus is now selling the tape version again.
secondchance1977 3 years ago
Does Sony know about this?
palmercomm 3 years ago
Sony would'nt purchase an old pilot; Theyd make a new one
secondchance1977 3 years ago
Creepy to see a color kinescope from 1975. I know shokus video says they got a tape of this, so this might be the kinie version.
secondchance1977 3 years ago
0:00-0:10 Is that a live-action-looking slate with that guy saying "We've Got Your Number, Show "B"", Then a buzz-in SFX we heard at the beginning?

That is one awesome theme song!

Jack was hoping that this would be his follow-up to JOKER'S WILD, but CBS decided to go with a couple of other shows (neither of which succeeded).

Oh wow, I was hoping someone would upload this!!! YAY!!!
