Gilmour's rack of sound gear is used as a separate instrument, as well, if you look at what he uses (tastefully!) to get his sound. But music is so subjective, I don't know that anyone could ever 'define' the greatest solo ever. Tony Rice, Clarence White on acoustic......Hendrix, Eddie VH on Eruption, Duane Allman or Dickie Betts....all great and inspiring with so many more to list.
