I have an ATI and it's really great. If you're looking to get a 1911 for a little less cash you will be really happy with it. It only jammed once in probably 800 rounds (it was a girl shooting it).

@1Demonheadbussa I own a Citadel 1911 it's made by Armscor same as the Rock Islands. It is an EXTREMELY well functioning gun. I love it to death i've had 400 rounds without an issue and still going, haven't messed with the RI though, the Citadel is a higher end RIA but i'd say they're right around the same as far as function goes. If i was you i would just pop on one they are WELL worth the money and 599.00 is a VERY hefty tag. i paid 500 OTD for mine.

I bought the ATI Commander but haven't had the opportunity to shoot it yet. The gun shipped heavily oiled, and once I got it all cleaned up and relubed, I was amazed at how well the slide and frame are fitted. I've seen 1911's that cost 4X the price of the ATI that are not fitted this precisely. Obviously I'm anxious to put it through it's paces. If the sights are off on mine, it's an easy fix. Nice video Hickok, now I'm anxious to try mine out.

@rolexr , There's really very little difference to be observed in general pistol shooting with the two different rounds. Shooting jugs of water and melons at pistol velocities with hollow points is about the same as FMJ ammo. I might be wrong on some targets; maybe that would be something worth showing,though, that there really IS very little difference. :-)

We sell quite a few of the Philippine made 1911's (although we've not sold any of the ATI specifically). One problem we encounter pretty routinely is this. There is a lip between the ramp and barrel and quite commonly rounds get jammed on that lip. It shouldn't be a weak spring as the mags are brand new but for whatever reason, sometimes a different brand of mag will "fix" it. I've seen a Sig mag work when a Chip won't. Or a S&W mag work when a Sig won't. I don't understand it, but it sometime

@MrJeromieh I dunno, I'd keep the p90 if I could hit with it rather than take the chance you'll have to "modify" the sights on the ATI. Perhaps hickok just got one of the 'special' ones. You shouldn't have to modify a new gun to shoot well, but to each his own.

Shooting low is a pain for sure. I have a new 9mm Taurus 24/7 and a Mil Por Taurus in .40 cal. They both shot low. I took the front sights down about 2/3 of the way off and now I can hit well.

Check it for a canted front sight, which is one of the most common problems (the front sight on the barrel will be canted left or right relative to the receiver). They are good blasting guns. Now if you want to save up about $1000, go for an Arsenal, similar to the AK Hickok has. Those are some nice AKs.

@TheLegumMagister The thought had crossed my mind that a VW enthusiast might be looking for one of those doors, but I know from experience that's it's way too much trouble to take a stripped part like this one and make it work. A solid door with no rust, complete with glass, window cranks, door panels, etc, might be worth $400. The one Hickok has there looks like it was already "shot" before he ever fired a round. :(

A bit of a technical question here... Hickok mentioned he would put a new rear sight on this gun to help raise the point of impact. But being that it's a GI-style rear sight, what would need to be done to install a new sight (say, Novaks)? A gunsmith would have to make new cuts on the slide to accommodate the new sights, correct?
