  • ist the commentattor thurn u taxis?

  • in 1981 there should be better quality of this video

  • Yeah,Bayern were VERY cocky about the second leg.Oops they went out! Mighty Reds!!!

  • One of the greatest results for a British club in Europe.

  • best teams, my favorite :D

  • does anybody have the programme from this game?

  • This game was live - anyway in Denmark -remember it quite clear. When Dalglish was nasty tackled by a german they have to replace him and on the pitch came a wonderful guy - but the danish commentator did'nt know about him and it took more than 1 minute before he was sure who he was - Howad Gayle, who played the germans as has he never done any thing else in his career :-) wonderful performance :-)) it was his debut in the red shirt.

  • i was there that night in munich, magic magic fantastic moments in liverpools history

i remember paul breitner mouthing of after the 0-0 in the first leg that liverpool are out and so on........

nights like these is what its all about

  • Thanx for the posts knuddle68 and bleo34. With Inter playing Real Madrid in the other semi final, 1981 was arguably the most powerful last four line up in the history of the European Cup. Remember this was in an era when only the Champions were allowed to enter Europe's premier competition.Gayle was key in the victory - his ability to carry the fight to Bayern was not anticipated. After Bayern's equaliser I spent the last 5 minutes under the kitchen table just willing the ref to blow for time.

  • alandsan...This is my favorite european game also (chelsea '05 sf excluded). I remember listening to it on Radio 2 as a 12 year old. Happy memories

  • Could have sworn this game was live on TV. Amazing result at the time. Howie Gayle ran them ragged - they didn't know what to do with him.

  • Bayern had outplayed Liverpool in the 1st leg at Anfield and the home side got away with a 0-0. Liverpool were without Alan Kennedy and Thompson for this 2nd leg and then lost Dalglish after 5 minutes. But they showed great resolve and kept them at bay. 9 mins from time Bayern lost concentration from a goal kick , Johnson broke away and crossed for Ray Kennedy to score. Kennedy's chest control was superb. An edgy last few minutes after Bayern scored simply added to the drama. Spine Tingling.

  • This is my favourite result in nearly 40 years of following Liverpool. A 1-1 draw in Munich today would not be considered as anything more than a decent result. But back in 1981 the European Cup still had a magical aura about it. Hard to believe nowadays but Euro semi finals were not considered worthy of live television coverage in England until the 1990s so BBC radio 2 was the only way to keep in touch. If anybody out there has more of this game please post it.

  • Ray Kennedy, great player
