    Galway Rose 1

  • @GalwayRose1 Thank you. I am hoping to have internet connection at home soon so I can continue uploading videos. At the moment I am using the library.

  • What a lovely buoyant voice!

  • @richardhanna0 Thank you for your lovely comment.

  • @maureenderry I have a healthy appreciation for good singers ! And of Moore's melodies. Would love to hear you cover "At The Midhour of Night".

  • @richardhanna0 I have heard that song sung many times but always by men. I must look it up....I was given an old book of all Moores Melodies. Beautiful! Maybe I will sing "At the Midhour of Night" soon.

  • @maureenderry That would be awesome! Keats who was quite dismissive of Moore as a poet, conceded that "Oft in the Stilly" night and "At the midhour of Night" were perfect. Funny enough these are the two songs of Moore's cannon that Musicologists regard as his masterpieces. the elegant slides you use in TMOTW's to such great effect will sound fantastic on "at the Midhour of night' .

  • Absolutely beautiful. I hope that you will get round to recording "The Lark In The Clear Air". I know you would do it the justice you have given to this beautiful video.

Thank you so much for sharing your gift with us.

  • Thanks for your comment. One of the first songs I learned and sang solo was "The Lark in the Clear Air" Idon't know why I never recorded it.....maybe will soon.

  • There is a point at which song transcendes itself, and both for the singer and the listener becomes prayer. Deeply beautiful Maureen. Thank you.

  • Thank you for such a lovely comment. Maureen

  • A delight to listen to.

  • Thank you.

  • My brother Louis sang this song, while I sang"My Lagan Love," when we were young. It was the custom to sing for the company in those days. I would like to hear "The Lark in the Clear Air," which my sister Julia used to sing, and as someone else suggested, "Love Thee, Dearest."

  • This song and The Lark in the Clear Air were the first 2 songs I sang and won prizes with in Feis competitions. I am sorry I have not recorded The Lark but maybe some time in the future.

  • What an exquisite rendition of this beautiful song, Maureen! It was a favourite of my mother, who sadly passed away peacefully on Sunday, aged 95. She used to sing it often as it took her back to the country of her birth, her beloved Ireland. She was born and bred near Gorey, Co Wexford, not so far from the Vale of Avoca.

How I would love to play it at her funeral (this coming Monday 8/12/08) but my search for a CD version has proved in vain so far. However I'll keep searching to the end!

  • Thank you for your lovely comment. . I am sorry about your mother's death ... she had a wonderful long life.

  • What a lovely song and what a beautiful voice you are gifted with.

I have absolutely no Irish connections, but I just love these Irish melodies.

Thank you for sharing this gem, which I have added to my favourites.
