And black metal - technically Clive Archer (vocalist on Venom's Demon demo) was the father of black metal. But Quorthon did start the pure black metal screech and coined the more common black metal sound, yes.

The next song on Blood On Ice is necessary to this song, without it this is too failed a song... One Eyed Old Man (Odin, you know). Apart from Ring of Gold, hard to say, it's another viking metal ballad, I never like ballads much except from Thomas Forsberg. He really was a god of metal. He never did anything to be ashamed of. Woodwoman from this album is great, but you really have to listen to the whole album to understand it all, only Bathory concept album except Nordland.

Bathory are not the forefathers of Black Metal.Black Metal started by the Band Venom and they made a lot of success when they created black metal.Evantually the name of black metal came from their album 'Black Metal' because no one knew what type of metal they played.Then bathory came and continued the legacy of black metal and making a lot of success (more then venom) ^_^
