  • The original must be his voice, cuz he can do this with his voice. Listen to RHCP- She´s only 18 and listen John´s back vocal in 1:43 he did it there

  • Yeah, this isn't right. John did no change to his voice.

  • hi youtube, im trying to get vocals(only) of musics, to make my mix's.

Like Tiesto, he puts calm vocals on cool beats....can anyone tell me how or here to find a good vocal???

  • so the album version was slowed down?

  • John notes every modulation and effect used on the Empyrean in the liner and in various interviews. He sings it this way or otherwise alters it for a certain reason. Also, why is the whole last part of the song missing lol?

  • i think that he didnt do his voice higher.he just sang it low

  • Still GENIUS!

  • I just posted a video of my cover of the beginning of the song showing that it's very possible that it's John's real voice. I'm not a good singer, but Frusciante is. If I can do it, then surely he can with 20+ years of singing experience and high quality mics and equiptment.

  • john made the pitch higher on "head (beach arab)".

and here i saw the connection with........

    the beatles` when i`m 64.

    you see,

john wrote head at the age of 16.

paul wrote when im 64 at the almost same age.

paul wanted to sound young so he made the pitch higher.

i think john also made the pitch higher cuz he also wanted to sound like at the age of 16

  • so what if someone use effects vocals?

we should use everything that will make music better. if a motive/reason is good

only thing that matters is the motive. and john's motives are good.

  • @MrEneja nothing is wrong. just he didnt used effects on this one. he just sang from his chest - if you know what i mean - so he gave it that depth.

he did use effects however on some other songs, like running away into you, leaving you, regret... and that's all i recall for now.

  • damn..i kinda like this version better lol. he seems more uplifted with his attitued.

  • wow,i thought he just sings low in the original

  • But still, good job.

  • Original is better. You made his voice a little too high in some areas.

  • thanks a lot for this

  • HAIL JOHN.

  • doesn't sound a lot like somethin john would do. just my opinion of course. he has stated it was a concept album.

  • I love this song! I hope the vocals on record are his real vocals and I think they could be, but this video sounds like him, too. He has one hell of a voice either way.

  • doesn't sound like john imho.

the original recording is the way he recorded it.

please, don't spread these rumors about john using fx on his voice. they're not true.

Please! i'm trying to be as polite as i can.

  • John has used effects on his voice in tons of songs...The Slaughter, Unreachable, etc. Why is it far fetched to believe that he recorded this song and then messed around with the tape speed (something he's done on many of his other songs, not only with his voice, but instruments as well)?

  • you know what?

let's just wait until john confirms it..one day an interviewer will ask him this question and then you'll see that i'm right.

  • are you stupid or something? John uses fx on his voice.. why is that so offensive to you? its not an insult to him.. stop being a dumbass and realize that john obviously used effects on this track.

  • its offensive when you go on and tell people they are stupid when you in fact dont know what this artist did to make that song. Now i highly doubt you have any room to talk about music, if you are doubting john frusciante's abiltity to hit low notes. You my friend, are the ignorant.

  • im not doubting anything. but john has a very natural high voice, its his trademark falsetto voice. im not saying he can't go that low. but its very probable that he used effects to make his voice that low.

  • okay, its probable. But, the fact is you dont know, and nor do i. So dont start anything, dont try to defend an idea if you dont know. Just appreciate the song for what it is. I mean, i see all of us john frusciante fans as people that want to hear music, not judge it. so lets just be kind and listen :-)

  • dude, it honestly doesn't matter. its a beautiful album. its actually my favourite album, besides BSSM. no one's judging. just discussing how he made these incredible songs. :)

  • haha okay okay, well im glad were on the same page :P

  • @hailtheheelz its not far fetched to believe that in a comfortable, open, quiet studio and lots of time that he can hit the low D, which many talented vocalists can hit anyways.

  • @hailtheheelz i know for a fact that he didn't use effects on his voice in this song. in an interview with music radar, he said he liked working alone with his vocals and with nobody in the studio because he could experiment with his voice and not be embarrased or have someone waiting for him to nail a perfect take. joe bosso compared john frusciante to john lennon because of his in studio vocal experiments. it's all natural in this song.

  • John says himself that he uses effects and loves messing with the tape speed. He's even done it on chili pepper songs. Wet Sand, that "harpsichord" at the end during the solo is really a guitar doubled and then a harmony played along with it, and then sped up.

He most likely used effects on his voice in order to make it that deep.

  • nah. it sounds very natural.. plus its not that hard to do that with your voice

  • then explain running away into you. listen to the song and tell me he doesnt use an fx on his voice.

  • @ComaP0ny Its not a bad thing to use FX, its experimenting, its exciting! We all know that John is one hell of a singer, he has nothing to proof and therefore he can do whatever he wants with it! :)

  • heh, i like this version, thanks

  • I almost prefer this to the way it was presented on the album. Either way, brilliant song.

Am I alone when I say that the string solo in this song was annoying?

  • the song is brilliant either way... I love it! and yes, you are alone in that opinion!! ;)

  • yes.

  • No I`m with you ! I don`t really like the string solo either, it`s a bit to much or something, I don`t know how to explain it. But I love the rest of the song ! Oh and the album, it`s brilliant :D

  • Very interesting
