  • Meine Lieblingspassage......

  • Stand up to the blow that fate has struck upon you,

Make the most of all you still have coming to you, [or]

Lay down on the ground and let the tears run from you,

Crying to the grass and trees and heaven finally on your knees

Let me live again, let life come find me wanting.

Spring must strike again against the shield of winter.

Let me feel once more the arms of love surround me,

Telling me the danger's past, I need not fear the icy blast again.

~Doesnt Get Much Better Than Those Lyrics~ TBANKS

  • This has to be my funeral song, i hope its a long long way away though!!!, brilliant, this always makes my hair stand on end. Very emotional song . love it .

  • Is it just my otic analogue bias or does this sound so much better than a digital upload?

  • demaissss

  • Well I still wonder how it was all possible: this kind of music being mainstream. Too good to be true. At least we will always have these treasures. I love almost all 70s Genesis, but these gorgeous "wall of sound choruses" just blow me a away! A similar song is "Evidence of Autumn" it is on the old vinyl edition of "Three Sides Live" and on the second Archive Disc box set.

Unfortunately Genesis had to chance their sound for the 80s - like all 70s acts (many didn't make it back then)......

  • The best band of all time

  • Genius

  • Sounds like afterglow but more complex and less repetetive

  • What a wonderful song. Less known but still a masterpiece. Too bad that the chances to see them back on stage are almost zero :(

  • good song

  • love the slight warp... mesmorising ..my 78 vinyl is in the garage somewhere.. with a charisma label.

  • Best use of dramatic drumming on this track!! Genius

  • a beautiful song in all its vinyl glory!

  • Absolutely one of the best Genesis songs...ever. This was the album that solidified my love for Genesis. The lyrics had a huge impression on me. I was 20 when this came out and I found strength and encouragement from this song. My other favorite from this album is "Follow You Follow Me" which I had played at my wedding. I wonder if Tony Banks knows the impact of this song and what spurred the lyrics?

  • Freakin genius!!!!

  • I fine video to a beautiful song! The music is in your head and in your heart and dreaming we always looked at such "simple" music-players...

  • sweeeeeeeeet

  • Thanks is all I can say.

  • all that relates me to my father is listening to this smoking a joint, it's a shame, but still it's beautiful!!

  • tijd slijt als een grammofoonplaat, maar de muziek van genesis, Yes ,Dreamtheater

zullen nog lichtjaren verder te horen zijn ergens hier of op een andere planeet

    waar mensen heen zijn gegaan

  • A bad video to a beautiful song!

  • An evergreen! This song will be played the next 1000 years...

  • Okay - so you uploaded a video of one a track from one of my favorite albums from high school - played on the same turntable I owned back then - and you did it on my birthday? Many thanks! :-)

  • One of the greatest bands of all time -

  • you should be my drinking partner!

  • I jack off to this song... its so beautiful it makes me cry every time, thanks for upload

  • @FeilxNigh7 Slightly too much information there fella....... i agree with the beautiful bit though!

  • GENIALLLLLL.....THANKS

  • Probably the best song ever played on a mellotron

  • It IS a Technics MKII 1200!! Great stuff!!!

  • Такой раритетный диск! Прекрасные голоса Фила Коллинза и Питера Габриэля. Жаль, что распались. Отличная группа была.

  • This just a great song...I don't care if Homer and Jethro did it or after who left...A great song is always a great song. Hope Peter listened to this one...

  • If I hear one more track about some hoody bitching about his crib or whore I promise I think I'll hurl.

This is what talent is all about. The MTV generation hasn't a clue

  • One of the best songs they ever did (post-Peter Gabriel that is)

  • Wow,you have the exactly same brand of LP player like my father's.Please correct me if I make a mistake but is it a JVC one?!

  • Comment removed

  • @thekillingjimmy Unmistakably a Technics 1200, probably a MkII, but that's a guess. Probably the best turntable ever made - used and abused by DJs the world over and they almost never break down - built like battleships! B->

Mind you, JVC and Technics are the same company, I think.

  • @capcomms Hi-JVC is Japan Victor Co. Technics is owned by Panasonic and is now Defunct. Technics is still their Prof. division but Panasonic took over the Consumer Products.

  • @capcomms Best turntable I ever had was a basic Acoustic Research with an AudioTechnica $179 cartridge/stylus (big bucks at that time)...a real piece of work. Technics made some great stuff too...best cassette players ever, by a mile. : )

  • Taking away pops, krackle and surface noise, the good old LP's sound so much better than CD's which still use a standard established by Sony and Phillips back in 1983 - based upon the Nyquist sampling theorem and Fourier analysis, by now proven to be too low. I don't buy CD's anymore. Bring me a higher resolution instead of surround crap, and I will buy them. 'Till then : good luck to recent vinyl music manufacturers.

Anyway: his album (ATTWT) is WAY underrated!

  • wow I used to play this album on that same deck many moons ago, awesome :-)

  • Let me feel once more the arms of love surround me-Telling me the danger's past I need not fear the icy blast again....

  • @jaquestotite Hackett was not there ...

  • iTLL SOON BE SNOWING OUT THERE AND SO ..........BETTER THINK A WHILE OR i MAY NEVER THINK AGAIN.......IF THIS WAS THE LAST DAY OF YR LIFE MY FRIEND TELL ME WHAT DO U THINK U WOULD DO THAN??? STAND UP.....LET ME LIVE AGAIN- LET LIFE COME FIND ME WANTING///what a great song!

  • Genesis - Simply the best!

  • suprema melodía y excelente imagen

    para quienes crecimos con Genesis

  • stand up to the blow .. that fate has struck upon you, make the most of all you still have coming to you - lay down on the ground and let the tears roll from, run into the (somthing) tree's and heaven, finally on your knees,

  • @sliverazuria

Running thro the grass and trees... aint it just brill.... they're just great...

  • @sliverazuria

these words have brought me such great strength when going through the storms of life.... I listen to Collins and Banks and shake my head listening to their "commercial" crap just breaks my heart....but thank God for songs such these....

  • @minstralwinds they're another reason to fall back on such.

  • thank you so merry much..:)

  • Is that really the turntable/system/vinyl making that sound???

  • @goosesquash I would say it is as I have this album also and when you play records over and over they get scratchy and blips etc...this sounds authentic on the player :)

  • Tony Banks is one of the best songwriters EVER...you read it: EVER.

  • So spooky!

I bought the album and played it to death in the 70's.

Spooky because i had a Sharps seperate system and the pic looks just like mine.

The scratches on the album were on the master.

  • I am so glad they included this song on the "Platinum Collection," otherwise I may have never experienced it. Absolutely beautiful, underrated song. It's right up there with Ripples in my opinion as some of the most beautiful music anyone has ever made.

  • Yes, this one with Ripples, Afterglow, Blood On The Rooftops, Firth Of Fifth and Carpet Crawlers are wonderful songs, I think.

  • Dont forget "Snowbound" or how on earth could you leave out "Cinema Show", wow! *waves*

  • Entangled don't forget that!

  • I heard this live at knebworth when I was 12 , my dad ,me and my sister hitch-hiked from st.albans , hertfordshire , never will forget that wonderful day ...............

  • This was my first LP ever and I still like it very much!!! How time flies...

  • mine too!

  • Excellent video too. Im serious.

  • Wow!! Best ever!!

  • 1 of my fav LPs of all time... when I traveled alot this was all ways on the playlist

  • Sounds like Mike Rutherford made a bit of an attempt to sound like Steve Hackett???, and then he play's these killer booming Moog Taurus pedal bass chords/notes.

  • This is one of the best songs ever made! They don't make real music anymor. I wish I could have been my fathers age when he was young and went to Genesis and Pink Floyd concerts!

  • @Allanlegarthnielsen

try listening to Heathaze on Duke album.... its just as great!!

  • @Joevac1 Afterglow, Mad Man Moon, Heathhaze, Many Too Many... Tony Bank's masterpieces

  • @Allanlegarthnielsen Maybe, but then you'd be our age too! When I was young,I used to wish I'd been around in the sixties....I guess that's one of the wonderful things about recorded music-that we can hear it exactly as our parents did.But don't wish your youth away-as G.B.S. once said-"Youth is wasted on the young".

  • @Allanlegarthnielsen

    I'm ssooo agree with you!!!!

  • I've got the same album as you my friend!!

It's a true classic album I must admit, and is still in good condition.

    =)

  • What is that black thing going round and round??

  • LMAO

  • an OLD CD lol

  • @mouldywartt Good one. I believe I have a factory-made plastic-rectangle-with-two-holes version of this also, along with the black thing.

  • Now I remember why I was so into this album when it came out!

  • Total and absolute CLASSIC !!!....

  • Loved this album ever since it came out. Somehow I never heard Tony Banks solo album of this time until a couple months ago. WOW! It's like "and then there were 3 PART 2".. The only thing that could add to this sound is hackett's atmosphere.

  • I love this album, too. I think it's fantastic that they brought out such a lyrical album after Steve Hackett's departure.

I think it is sad that many Genesis fans cam be a tad dismissive of it...

Personally, I think it's one of their finest albums. I also think that a lot of people who are not Genesis fans would derive a great deal of pleasure, comfort and reasurance from adding this album to their collection...

  • another maybe greater song would be the burning rope.

  • My mom has that exact disk record. I remember sitting on the floor and listening to it when I was about 10. Oh, the miracle that is internet.

  • Wow i have this album vinil.

  • best album they did i reckon

  • Agree. Not many folks think that though.

  • @21433H i think the same (that this is genesis's best album)

  • thanks "spellerine" for this video. i tryied to found this song online (i have the vinyl) but i can't take that.

  • vuoi

  • Nice song , from masterkeyboards Mr. Tony Banks ....

  • La più grande ballata dei Genesis è impossibile non emozionarsi al suo ascolto.Da brividi....da lacrime.

  • this song gives me horopilations

tell what do u think u would do....?

  • "stand up to the blow, that fate has struck upon you. make that most of all you still have coming to you". Give me a better definition of life and I'll buy you a beer or two

  • is the ONLY definition of life... that s because I love more and more this song and the LIFE ... thanks life GENESIS is in this world... and let the tears run from me crying to the grass and trees... love them for ever!

  • one of the greatest songs from Genesis. I'm surprised that this song isn't as well-known today as some of their other songs.

  • I love this song since 1978 when the album appears , never forget when I listen it , is a real himn to life... agree with you that Undertow isn´ t as well known as many others... is one of the greatest songs ,included in a great album , that´s absolutely right...

  • stunning tune. one of the very best in the genesis canon.

  • This is one of those songs that never gets due credit--it's one of the best things Banks ever wrote (right up there with "Mad Man Moon").

  • I love All in a mouse s night.... Banks is far a great musician ....!

  • one in a mouse s night ... and other greatest songs are also creation of our super BANKS... one for the vine...etc, etc...

  • @Squonk06 Amen! This album along with Wind and Wuthering was their best! I love Steve Hackett and he was a real tradesgy of this band....Too bad Collins ego moved him out...

  • curtains are drawn ... so , so emotional feeling , all fears go as I look on your face....if this were the last day of your life, my friend.... is a kind of alegory of human being ...too profound with simple words...genial... who can else had not pass for a moment like this...?...love this song , its essential for my life...everyday !

  • And Then there were Three is a great and not yet the last great album of Genesis, perhaps latier albums are not so amazing ...but I like so much Duke, great sound of a different time and also prog...

  • My favourite track.thank you.

  • Nice! I love the turntable, cool idea! I can here the pops once or twice. I hope you have this whole album done the same way.

  • my favourite genesis song of all time...thanks for posting this

  • wow I had the same type of turntable before music went to CD it had a light for perfect speed the most modern turntable of its day

  • Classic Genesis, love this album.

  • me too...!

  • yes...it is like you say...the lyrics are some of yhe best ever written♥

  • I spent one year ...complete ,listening only this album, I had not another of Genesis ...at that time , I enjoyed it like I was listening it for the first time, ....Undertow makes me cry and produce on me an emotion that I cant describe l...yrics, music... all...♥

  • I remember when I first heard this song, I had the same emotional reaction to it too. It's a powerful track.

  • its incredibly that Genesis music can make us feel that kind of emotions...! thats because I think we had in our souls the music of the band since we had been born...! ... is a cosmic and deep feeling, for me there s nothing better than be conected always with them...! never feel alone if I am with Genesis...! ♥

  • fantastic tune from yesteryear.love it.

  • Definatley the last true sounding Genesis and prog album. Love this song and album.

  • thankyou for putting this track on!! So uplifting and the memories.....

  • I dreamt of this song a few nights ago.I loved it so much years ago.

It's in my top 10 best ever.

  • its incredible we, fans, can have that kind of dreams... I had a dream I would like to anybody can hear from me...but its so long... was a night that I get sleep with an MP3 of Genesis ...in my Discman , the sound wasall integred into my dream about 2 hours ....! I awoke totally surprised and happy...

  • I love the words to this song. Incredibly profound.

  • Thank you so much for this post spellerine. This song is a beautiful dance.

  • Nice track! I don't have that album. I have Nursery Crime, Fox Trot, Abacab and Genesis (self-titled) and a Phil Collins solo lp and a Peter Gabriel solo lp.

  • Yeah, it is a great tune! I don't have most of those LPs that you mentioned!

  • Spellerine, I hope you've added more to your Genesis/Gabriel collections in the meantime. You'd love The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway...

  • @jcashfan365 then run like hell to buy "selling england by the pound" and "a trick of the tail"
