  • The barking makes all the differance. Thanks for posting this little dude.

  • Haha..had this same record back in the day!! :D

  • Yep I love your video its cool

  • This version by Robert John is SO much better than the Tokens. Yet you never hear it on mainstream corporate manipulated radio stations. Hmm go figure.

  • @TheMusickid58 usually the original version does better than covers. Tokens tested better.

  • Superb version of this song but a dreadful presentation on Youtube. Re-do this and use a direct patch.

  • THIS IS ROBERT JOHN THE B-SIDE IS JANET

  • Yup, just how I remember all my 45's. all effed up and absolutely Magic. Thanks a million, kid. You alright.

  • kj197734 Whoops ! Thank you for correcting my entry.

It is indeed the Evening Birds.

  • Search You Tube for the original of this song:

Wimoweh or Mbube by Solomon Linda and the Nightbirds.

    Solomon Linda wrote this.

Robert John does an awesome version.

  • @azitaliana You are wrong. It is Solomon Linda and the Evening Birds.

  • This IS the Robert John version and NOT The Tokens. Someone FINALLY got it right!! You go kid!

  • @sandibeche I like this version much better. ( But thats probably because this was in the top 40 back in 72 and you heard it at least 4 times a day on the radio ).: )

  • Great song, but I wish he had a patch cable so he can wire it direct so it won't have that mike in front of the speaker sound. The speed sounds like it is varying. Maybe the record is warped or the hole is not centered. or it could possible be the machine itself. Thanks for putting this up. You can't find this version anywhere.

  • This is the Robert John version. Obviously. Need a better quality copy, but thanks for this one.

  • Eu gostaria de saber que ano essa música foi gravada. Eu a conheci em 1975.

  • Eu tenho um compacto 33" da ATCO Records, indicando o ano como 1972

  • Robert John did record a newer version, but the lad's 45 is playing the original. Unfortunately, I'm old enough to know.

  • The Tokens did "the lion sleeps tonight," and Robert John was not a member.

  • I still have the 45 after all these years!

  • I thought you were going to dance! Thumbs up!!!

  • Turntable seems to be draging slightly

  • Robert John was all over the music business.

  • I made an error. The Lion Sleeps Tonight was a hit prior to Sad Eyes.

  • Sorry, but Robert John who's real name is Bobby Pedric grew up on Howard Ave in the Brownsville section of Bklyn and we went to school together. His first recorded song was when he was 13 0r 14 called White Bucks & Saddle Shoes. He sang it on American Bandstand under ther name of Robert Star. His next hit that he wrote was Sad Eyes which was #1 in 79. Maybe he lived later on in NJ but he's a Bklyn boy through and through.

  • This is the best version. My local radio station in NJ plays it occasionally (he was from NJ), but I can't find it anywhere: iTunes, Amazon, etc.

  • Yeah this version is great, my fav.

  • I like this version the best!!

  • Love the song.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • Oh yay! Love it! Good for you little dude. Thankyou :)

  • WEll done sweetheart, you should be proud of yourself. Good on ya from Australia

  • Ok. Its a 45 rpm, but original. I did like it. The best so far here. Thank you.

  • You go, little brother! This is one of the greatest ever!

  • This is by far my favorite rendition of this song. Props for the upload at (apparently) an age when most don't even know of such things as vinyl records!

  • nice job!! YOU know that you can find great stuff on vinyl. Thanks.

  • OMG, I have this record!!!! but it's warped, bad! but it still plays it.

  • "Three times?"

"I'm sorry, I must be tired"

  • 13.5 HUNDRED views...

  • The tuba part is the best, love this version.

  • ACE VENTURA!!!

  • I liked this version better than the Tokens. This song has an interesting history. Google it. :-) Thank you, Beatlesboy97!

  • Good job, kid. I listen to this all the time

  • why?

  • why make a comment like "why?"

  • @Ashburnalley5 why not?

  • @foppa123 WTF?

  • ...Wow, that's a big CD! It's all black and Vinyl-like. You must've needed a big CD player to accomidate it...

  • not a cd its a 45. sort of like a vinyl record but a little smaller.

  • ...Yeah, it's called sarcasm. Might wanna look that one up. B.T.W. Your only 19, what would you know of 45 record's...

  • @arromac good one!!! tell these little kid's who think they know it all !!!

  • @arromac Hi! I'm going back through al the replies I've gained in the last 2 years, and seeing how big of an idiot I was! (P;s, I'm actually only 15 now, I was 12 then, hence my idiotism).

So yeah, just acknowledging that this was really very stupid of me.

    So long!

  • @TheRydog100 ...No offense, but is there any chance you studied math in the last "2" years?...

  • @arromac This was, I assume, more than 2 Years ago, YouTube doesn't show the months. If I can remember correctly it was before October 27th, which is my birthday. So yeah, I'm pretty sure I was 12.

  • Hey...I have this 45! It's stored in a pink patent leather 45 case. :)

  • Nice introduction, nice audio system, nice song. Thanks.

  • Muy buena esta versión del tema, creo que es la mejor que he oído hasta el momento.

  • well it is a least the updated version.the best version,in my opinon Not the old slow version by the Tokkens.

  • i wan buy it !
