"Bonanza" and "The Virginian" were two of N.B.C.'s prestige Westerns. One wonders if Adam on "Bonanza" was modeled after The Virginian since he was sometimes dressed in black (and was based on a book by Owen Wister).

Roberts made a big mistake when he left Bonanza. That was stupid of him. He was getting a good paycheck. When he left he was barely making ends meet.

I'm a big fan of Roberts. A great actor, but I think he could've done so much more. One line stands out in this scene: "Whatever you heard about me ... all I'm asking for is a job." Considering what work he had to settle on after leaving "Bonanza", I imagine that little line could be an example of what Roberts was encountering professionally. Aside from stage, he drifted in to a lot of guest shots. This one was good, but many were far worse than what he considered the "pap" he did on "Bonanza".
