To play online, you need a Gold Account. Either $10 monthly or like $60 for a 12 month card. You don't need online for the single player campaign though, or for the local multiplayer, just for online multiplayer

You have to buy a gold account at costs 60 dollars if you want it for a year. You can get it for 3 months if you want and its' a lot cheaper but you end up paying more if you but it 4 times at 3 month each in a year then buying it once a year. Also, there tends to be a lot of deals going on if you have your xbox hooked to the internet so you might be able to get it cheaper than the normal price. If you have an xbox you should a silver account already and you look at goold account deals from it.
