I got stuck behind a lady that argued and held up the ER, all you have to do is answer a few questions show some ID, takes just a minute, what is wrong with these people?
I love it! This is so spot on. You got all the common moronic answers. I'm allergic to anything but...Demerol or Dilaudid. I love it when they say, 'My pain is a 20' while smiling or laughing. If our jobs weren't so darn entertaining, I just don't know what we would do.
@isabellibrizzi Obviously, you do not work in an Emergency Department. I challenge you to volunteer at a local emergency room for 1 month, then you can be the judge as to how folks abuse the system and use the emergency room to get their narcotics. This is why they are overcrowded.
@isabellibrizzi Last, there are some folks out there that really do require government assistance. However, some of them do not and continue to scam the system. You talk about humanity, I have compassion for those that are in true need of care, regardless of income. I do not have compassion for narc seekers and abusers. Especially, those that are quite capable to help themselves!!!!
@isabellibrizzi If they are telling the truth about their pain,this scale helps us judge,along with non-verbal cues,how bad their pain REALLY is?And how we will treat it.
Yes a LOT of people do go over the 10,but if that person is texting while saying "My pain is a 15."Then we know that they are not in any pain at all & need no treatment.
What seems stupid & a waste of time to a member of the public,is not to us.
I hope that makes it a bit clearer to why we ask such a stupid question?

The ER staff has to stop being told to ask that 1-10 question. Patients always say 12 or 20. They're in pain. Stop wasting time with that question.
