  • In the XVIII century there was a man, Juan de la Vega, who used to steal money and jewelry to rich people to give them to poor people. He was a kind of Robin Hood in Spanish colonial times in Mexico. One day the Viceroys men captured him during a battle and then he was executed. People of Celaya made him saint and settled a town in his honor. Each year they remember that battle between the army and the thieves who commanded Juan de la Vega. People explode firecrackers to simulate that battle.
