It's not the point whether the music is complex or if the band members talented, I'm sure lots of jerks told them their music was primitive, but they didn't care. It's more about self-expression and voicing your ideas with passion. Since the music isn't complex that makes it so more people are able to do it too, so it's something everyone can be a part of.

20 years ago minor threat was doing something really important in music. they were messin with everyones perception of what music really is. but this music wasn't meant to be listened to for 20 years. people shouldn't still be celebrating bad music. but they should respect what minor threat did for the music scene, and that goes for all hardcore from the 80's. without it, we wouldn't have the hardcore lifestyle like we do today.

20 years ago minor threat was doing something really important in music. they were messin with everyones perception of what music really is. but this music wasn't meant to be listened to for 20 years. people shouldn't still be celebrating bad music. but they should respect what minor threat did for the music scene, and that goes for all hardcore from the 80's. without it, we wouldn't have the hardcore lifestyle like we do today.
also though, break the fuckin edge!

I'll give it to you that the vast majority of seminal hardcore punk was bad and sloppy.... But so what? If people like something about it then they should listen to it. And even then, that doesn't apply to Minor Threat. They were a bunch of great musicians. Their riffs were great, their songs had structure, they were catchy. They were a fucking tight band and their music will endure longer than the rest of early 80s hardcore.

Because he doesn't think that people should automatically side with Straight Edge or the drug culture of Punk. The whole point of Straight Edge is you think for yourself, it's more about being clean from escapism and mass culture, not specifically free from drugs, which is more a reaction to how he felt about Punk musicians becoming Rocks stars.
Think again - good lyrics, but summing it up in 2 words is as bad as 1.
