When you have a rivalry that was hot as the rivalry between the Bulldogs and the Hart Foundation was back in the 80s, the important thing is booking. You want to make sure that the booking for this type of rivalry is on point so that the match isn't getting lost in the shuffle. If the booking ain't shit then the rivalry ain't going to be shit. You feel me? You have to go hard in selling this type of rivalry backstage to the agents, storyline writers and Vince so that it doesn't get fucked up.
main events or semi main events at the Garden and in Beantown when Hogan left the arena's and was ready to go back to the hotel. It took a lot of convincing on the Bulldog's and Bret's part to convince Vince to elevate this rivalry to the proper pitch. Once they elevated it properly enough though, the Bulldogs and the Harts were off and running making money after Wrestlemania III, but it took some time and a lot of convincing to elevate this rivalry where it needed to be. Upper midcard status.
It took Vince McMahon a while to figure out what we had poppin' with the Bulldogs and the Harts back in the 80s. As talented as they were, when they first arrived in the WWF Vince generally saw them as lower midcard talent. When the rivalry between the Bulldogs and the Harts started poppin' off in October 1986, that's when it got elevated slowly but surely to upper midcard status, and once the Harts won tag titles from the Bulldogs, they could use this rivalry at the house shows either as
If Dynamite would have not sustained that back injury in 1986, the Bulldogs and the Hart Foundation could have made a TON of money during 1987 because this rivalry was hot. They started making that money after Wrestlemania III when Dynamite recovered from his initial back injury and the Bulldogs started chasing the Harts for the belts to try and win them back, but they would have made even more money if Dynamite was just able to stay healthy and not have people subbing for him.
i remember watching this live as a kid! heheh, that running power slam was the best i have ever seen (to this day)... and i was so mad the bulldogs lost this!
I remember watching this on a Saturday morning, I was in shock. How could the ref let this happen. Those were some good times, I was 10 years old back then.
As I remember, Jim Niedhart was married to Bret's sister, Elie. Davey Boy Smith was married to Bret's sister, Diane. Dynamite Kid's wife, Michelle, was Bret's wife Julie's sister. What a dynasty there was! Lol
I didnt see nothing wrong with the officiating of Future Hall of Famer Referee Danny Davis. After all Davie Boy was not the legal man in the ring, thats why Davis kept trying to get Dynamite back into the ring. What a dispictable move by dynamite, you do not attack managers, I guess he learnt his lesson the hard way lol. Once again the Hart Foundation proving they are the superior tagteam in this match up, maybe things would have been different if Matilda was in their corner lol ( pun intended )
completely and utterly unfair and probably the most hilarious thing i have ever seen.... it was 2 vs 1 the whole match, except for when the 1 was winning, when 1 was winning, it was check on dynamite!
I remember watching this on TV in February of 1987...I was so damn happy I was a big Hart Foundation fan I can't believe I was so happy over stupid wrestling ha ha ha...I was walking on air all week long "The Hart Foundation won the belts"...it was the coolest thing ever I was so happy and I was so bummed out when they lost the belts to Strike Force...it was in November, I believe...
@alexisnikitin: Montreal was a work, and all the needless repetitions (Survivor Series 98, Bret-Goldberg Starrcade 99, etc.) were even less real. The Wendi Richter-Spider Lady incident was real.
@jkappianaq Actually it is kindof wierd becuase weren't the Hart Foundation good guys? Why are they getting booed? And why is Jimmy Hart out there? They were good guys from what I remember. In fact, Bret Hart was like THE good guy at the time.
@prowlifik To be more precise, the Hart Foundation turned face at WrestleMania IV in 1988, when Bad New Brown hit Bret Hart with his signature move, the Ghetto Blaster, in order win a battle royal and earn a trophy. Bret attack Bad News with the trophy after the match.
After seeing this, how does Bret Hart even begin to have a bitch about being screwed in Montreal? Looks to me like he got what he deserved. It just took 10 years to happen.
@MrThor221 .....Vince didn't decide on his own to have the Hart Foundation win the title. When Dynamite was laid up in the hospital from his back injury the WWF approached him and said that they wanted the Bulldogs to drop the titles against Nicholi Volkof and The Iron Sheik. Dynamite didn't agree with that. Instead he wanted the titles to go to the Hart Foundation......hence this match. Vince gave the green light to it but Brett & The Anvil wasn't his choice.
@gjnice21 I think maybe you are the kiddo....but what does that matter. I have probably forgot more shit than you know. But again what does that matter? Kind of like this whole conversation.....what does it matter?
It's a sort of a coicidence: Bret Hart won his first title with a crooked referee- Danny Davis (Kayfabe) in 1987 and then 10 years later in 1997 was screwed out of his last WWE Title Reign by another sort of crooked ref on that night: Earl Herbner (In Reality)
What's interesting that 5 years later Davey Boy Smith defeated Bret Hart to win the Intercontinental title at Summer Slam! In the storyline they admit they are brother in law! At that time between the hart foundation and the bulldogs, they were already brother-in-laws in real life!
This was in Dynamites Book. He couldn't walk and was off Roids and had lost a shit ton of weight. Vince needed them to drop the belts, but Dynamite said he needed help being taken to the ring...
At that time, Davey Boy Smith were already Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart real life brother-in-law. I'm sure that Dynamite Kid was already Bret Hart real life brother-in law!
@CanadianGuy25 At least this Blagojovich-referee wasnt corrupt and didnt give anybody an important title/position under dubious circumstances or anything...............No wait.
lol, during the time this happened, WWF wrestling was the biggest thing to me. The BB were my favorite tag team and to see them lose the title this way really hurt. Looking back, lol, how silly.
I hope the WWE makes The History Of The World Tag Team Championship. I would vote Wrestlemania II match, This one from 1987 WWE Superstars, and Strike Force in Oct 87.
If u look at 0:07-0:15 Jimmy Hart is out of camera's view. During that time he "hits" Dynamite Kid with the megaphone.
It was written in Bret's book that Dynamite had a severe back injury and that The British Bulldogs needed to give up the tag-team title. How Dynamite got to the ring was Davey Boy carried DK on his back and gently put him by the steps. After Jimmy's "hit" DK remained on the floor until the cameras went off the air. He was stretchered out of the arena.
Listen to vkm in this match..... I was almost laughing during this call. Boy was he ever "steamed" during this title change. He sounded like he wanted to cry after this match ended.
Back when wrestling was in the fabric of americana!!! Awesome!!!!!
