Just stop suggesting the X-grip it's the same price as the Cam Caddie except it could not mount my camera because the battery would not fit on its small frame, forget trying to keep it stable adding a light or 2. It's just another knockoff riding the coat tails of a great product!
@LIVEtoFLY09 no, u just screw it in to the front but u cant c the monitor on that kind of camcorder because it doesn't pop out 2 the side. well u can its just ur going 2 have 2 hold it 2 ur face all the time.
i checked it, it looks cool, also i have a question you may be able to answer,i just got the audio technica atr-25 condenser microphone, and as my new camcorder doesnt have a shoe compartment for extrernal inputs, is there a device which records onto sd card which i could take about portabily and record using my microphone
@95bradders95 Search google for 'portable mp3 recorder microphone input' to find those devices.
However, it might be a lot easier and less expensive just to get a camera that has external microphone port. Canon has several great video cameras with external mic ports starting at under $350
@skatingisbadass The opteka X-grip is a cheaply made knockoff of the Cam Caddie. I had one and traded it in after realizing how wobbly it gets, especially once i mounted one of my LED lights onto it. The Cam Caddie is the same price and much more professional.
Just to let you guys know, the cam caddie DOES STEADY your picture, in fact thats the point. now it isnt quite as smooth as a steadicam, but it deffinitly steadies you picture considerably. I own one and it works wonders for panning without using a dolly, so long as you are careful and steady with your movements, as you would be if panning is what you are trying to do. Cam Caddie helps to smooth out step vibrations and helps to sabilize cameras and camcorders for people without steady hands.
i am 16 years old and i usually use my camcorder for extreme-sport, mostly freestyle skiing. So since my camera is like a feather(Sony HDR - HC5) do you think it(TheCaddie) will be perfect for making follow cams on ski with an fisheye or widelens?
i know it is not a steadicam, but ive never seen someone shooting a followshot with a steadycam. so i think a good widelens/fisheye, a homemade handle and some training on holding the camera still would work. Maybe i will also buy the MINIDV steadycam for ebay for 100.USD
HOW steady is the camcaddie? Like seriously, will it majorly smoothen out shots? I have the poor man's steady cam which i can get some fairly nice footage, but it's rly annoying to use.
i have a samsong mx20, about a little more than half the size of the hieght of yours, well i film skating and i have a fisheye, it is the opteka .3x fish eye for 37mm cameras, well if i have my mx20 with the .3x superwide fisheye will it still fit and not hit the part on the front?
id have to say they made the cam caddie for skateboarding... filming fisheye... not for walking around your hoyuse saying o hi... im on camera wasting tape...
it will most likely work with it, most of those threads are universal 5.5mm bolts. I think your better off making one your self, it took me 10 minutes to make one in shop class out of a flat piece of metal bent in a clamp. i used a bike grip for the handle. it saved me 50 bucks and its good for filming my skate vids with.
Don't spend the money on this when you can make them yourself unless you really want it.
Actually if you want the exact size, the standard tripod mount is 1/4-20 (1/4 inch, 20 threads per inch). 5.5mm bolts might be a compatible match, I don't know if the threading of metric bolts would be correct.
Some larger cameras use a 3/8 inch tripod mount (I don't know what the threads per inch on that is), but any consumer or prosumer camcorder will be 1/4-20.
hi bill, is the cam caddie compatible for canon hv20? how about if i would be placing a wide angle lens since that contributes more weight will that be alright with cam caddie "scorpion": series?
a steadi cam wouldnt work for me cuz the ones I saw didnt have handles and im gonna be filming skateboarding so I kinda need a handle to get that low angle so I think the cam caddie would work better...do you agree?
There is 5.5 inches of clearance from the bottom of the tripod mount to the bottom of the top handle. Any camcorder less than 5.5 inches tall should fit.
sir what is that microphone on your back.. is that the mic you use to capture your voice.. can you also feature that? my brother is is an artist and he loves playing guitar can you recommend a consumer type home recording microphone. :) thank you sir I hope you can feature it. By the way sir, I usually watch your videos and I learn a lot from video editing and tips and tricks.

@LIVEtoFLY09 I don't know, but you can get something similar for around $12 at Amazon. Search for Sima light bracket and you'll see what I mean.

The caddie is not a steadicam - so it would show all the shakes while moving it.
Search youtube for 'homemade steadicam' and you'll find something better

The camcaddie is just a device to make holding the camcorder easier. It is not a steadicam, and won't smooth out the video.

true, but the website claims that it will convert any camcorder into a steadicam...

You are correct, I shoot all my videos on a tripod. I rarely use the cam caddie, but when I need it, it is a handy device to have around.
If you need a camcorder stablizer, you can build a pretty nice one for about $70.
Search google for 'home built camcorder stablizer' and you'll see how

Or make your own using PVC. Search youtube for steadicam to see how.

I plan on using this product for filming skateboarding videos and I want to attach a fisheye to the camcorder. Will the fisheye get in the way?
JesseBruni 3 years ago
A fisheye lens shouldn't get in the way. And since you can slide the camcorder forward on the mount, you can adjust the camcaddy to fit.
You might also might consider a steady-cam equivalent. It will give smoother motion than the camcaddy.
guerillabill 3 years ago
what do you mean by a steady-cam equivalent?? is it a different product?
JesseBruni 3 years ago
Search google for 'home made steadi cam' and you'll see what I mean.

There is 5.5 inches of clearance from the bottom of the tripod mount to the bottom of the top handle. Any camcorder less than 5.5 inches tall should fit.

sir does that cam caddie will also be advisable for CAnnon Tx1?
raymercado 4 years ago
The Cam Caddie should work well with all small the mid size camcorders - as long as you don't need to attach a shotgun mike above the camcorder.
Search ebay for camcorder bracket to find other similar devices
