if 50% of lung cancers present mutation of EGFR and have to be treated with further drugs once the mutations is present, why not treat the initial cancer with the drug which would treat the mutation as well? In this case the mutation would not develop. What this implies is that the potential for mutation exist in the primary cancer, and so by eradicating that potential, the treatment would only be applied once. And is the potential for mutation inheritant to oncogene or the consequence of drugs

Cancer is not a disease, and therefore it can't be cured. Nor can it be bred out of the population, since it results from a fundamental defect in the way genes work, for which evolution has found various ways to compensate, all of which have side effects that are less than desirable. Generally speaking, genes which protect against cancer also "protect" against longevity. If the point of "curing" cancer is to increase lifespan, we obviously can't rely on those genes to achieve it.

I'm not sure about that, although cancer claims many lives per year and is a terrible condition there are people out there who make billions annually on cancer treatments and such. I know it seems that it's a rather pessimistic thought but I'm sure there are some rich people out there who would pay a lot of money for a cure to not be found.
