I think the Segway Corporation has all of the patents locked up. So I would not tempt fate by selling any part of this scooter. It is just a fun project.
The problem is that the electronics still need a non moving reference. These electronics always know where the earth is. A gyro is relative only. It could work, but I think it would always end up falling over or chasing you around the driveway. Try it and see.
Since this is radio control.I wonder if you could make one using just a real good rc helicopter gyro instead of boards and software. You could put a throttle on each handlebar going to each motor so it would turn like a tank.
I'm working on a sort of inverted-pendulum type robot like this. I have one question. Do you lean forward to change the speed? If not, how did you get it to accelerate without falling over backward?
This scooter is Radio Controlled. Since th electronics keep the scooter balanced, then it does not fall over whether it's controlled by a person or by radio control.
Nice, what motors are you using?

IIRC they are the T64 wheel chair motors used quite often in combat robotics.

You got it. Leaning or shifting of weight forward makes you go forward. Same for reverse.

I see...
"Our clone is also radio controlled!"
How did you get the radio controlled one to not fall over?

helmut? why

A helmet is important whenever you test drive a new scooter design of any type.

That scooter already knocked me unconscious once already! Although we will still have it at the Maker Faire in San Mateo, CA in May.
