  • As an art educator, and masters student, I appreciate the integration of the virtual painting with the traditional. I'm also jealous of the one-to-one computing which does not exist in the schools that I have taught.

I'm curious if you would eventually add interactive art studies to your integrated art classroom?

  • Fascinating! Congratulations, Ms. Smith, from a fellow-Art Teacher, MAEA, and alumni of Mercy H.S., '72.

Your efforts are admirable and model-worthy for all of us in the Visual Arts Education (K-12) field.

The late Sr. Mary Ignatius Denay, RSM would be extremely proud of your efforts to so-soundly build Mercy's Art Department.

  • As a Mercy graduate - I am totally impressed with the new technology being used by current students. I would love to see this technology used at the small school in the rural area I now live in. (NY Catskill Mountain area) Thanks for sharing this information.

  • Great example how art and technology can be combined in order to improve teaching and learning process. Great Video!! Thanks for sharing!!!

  • This program offers practical approach to incorporating technology into the arts. Susan understands that technology aids but does not replace traditional art. I hope that technology-assisted art will encourage funders and schools to support these programs and allow students to embrace art in a different yet equally as expressive way.

  • Wow, what advancements since I went to Mercy back in the 1970s.

  • It's really good. I wish my school had this vision.

  • This video shows the future of education! The vision to combine art and technology, as well as multidisciplinary and collaborative education is clearly operationalized here.

Also, the on-line (paperless) rubric provides a means for timely assessment of student learning and possible collaboration with other teachers which is essential to student learning.

    Thanks for sharing this video.

  • This was a GREAT video! I never really understood how computers could be used to make fine pieces of art. This video showed me that not only can art be fun but also technical. Art Rage looked like so much fun and I hopefully I can use it in the future!

  • Mercy High School <3

  • A great overview of how one school is combining the best of both worlds - helping students grow in knowledge and ability using traditional methods as well as newer technology.

  • Your students are truly capturing the essence of combining art and technology. You clearly show that your school is weaving together the two areas and that your students are taking ownership of improving their skills. I hope you are able to continue to spark the ideas and interests in these young people. Wonderful presentation.

  • You see computers being used in every subject nowadays even math! So why not art? This video shows a great example of how something that looks so complicated is really not that hard! It also paves the way to the next generation of technology and the people working with it.

  • Great video, Susan.

  • Great video, Susan.

  • Very informative video. Great ideas for cross curricular activities and projects. Loved how the program can be use at all levels - beginner to advanced. Amazing how students can create works of art from technology. Looking forward to seeing more videos and projects from your students using these tablets.

  • Nicely done! This video does a good job of showcasing your outstanding efforts. I like that it's not "all or nothing." So much art is done with computers these days, but you show that it's more effective when students creating computer art have a good grasp of design and the original media.

  • This is great! It is wonderful to see how a tablet can be used to help in classrooms that are not only academic in nature. This shows that each subject can find a way to enhance their curriculum with the use of technology. I love the collaboration with the Poetry class.

  • An excellent video. It illustrates how technology can enhance (but not overtake) traditional fine arts education.

  • Nice video! I liked the variety of software used and the variety of projects to which they were applied.

  • Fascinating look at how traditional art media can be combined with ArtRage on the tablet. The ideas of electronic rubrics and interdisciplinary projects are also extremely interesting.

  • Very nice video! Quite interesting to see how students have adapted to a pen based tablet when the tactile feel of the stylus on the media remains consistent whereas the feel of the various physical art media is different e.g. strokes for oils on a canvas would be different than watercolor on paper, different yet for pencil or charcoal on paper. It also provides a means where mistakes are not fatal and cause for anxiety.

  • What a great example of technology in the classroom. I like the how you provide a blended approach of traditional art and ArtRage. This will lead to more creative ideas I am sure. Well done!

  • I like it!

  • Cool!

  • Nice job! Very informative!

  • Excellent (:

  • Awesome use of the tablet in the art classroom. I like the balance of ArtRage with real art. It also gives students access to produce art wherever they go, extending their art beyond the classroom.

  • Interesting how the old and the new combine here to expand opportunities for students' creativity and teachers' effectiveness. I thought the on-line portfolio especially

exciting and efficient and, being a Language Arts teacher, loved to see the results of the assignment on illustrated student poetry.

  • These ArtRage videos are all the rage! Love the various methods used on those sweet HP Tablets - from charcoal, watercolor, acrylic and oil. Amazing to see the students' growth as they build their digital portfolios! Impressed that the students integrate ArtRage video clips into other classes shows the versatility of the product. Electronic feedback certainly makes the grade!

  • I like the equal balance that your school's art program shows in this video between technology and standard mediums. Very informative and eye-opening :)

  • Shows that technology has many uses both for staff and students. Using student examples demonstrates your effective use of this technology. Great video. Thanks for ideas!

  • What a great eye opener for all of the staff at your school! Terrific job.

  • This video really showcases the hands on usage of the technology available. Great visual examples of students work.

  • Technology can and does make a difference in 21st century education; options are clearly expanded for these students. Well done!

  • Excellent integration of the tablet technology into the high school art curriculum!
