I dont get it... Why the fuck does FF13 have to followup with wit the other games? Theres over 13 fucking titles and those who complain says its not like the originals, wtf do you expect things change! Who wants to play the same mechanics over n over? Pssh, to me the game was better than the trailer. There were so many intense scenes. The voice acting was great. The characters all develope well. The story was actually interesting and not that confusing for a change.
I guess the main complaints are the fighting system and it being "linear". But "linear" doesn't make the game SUCK since it's not a big deal. And the fighting system I'll say is a hit-and-miss because to me it's all the same basic thing anyways even if not EXACTLY the same. =P

The story itself is really quiet, slow and very complex. (as in it has too many unexplained detailed issues, not like most average stories). Even Advent Children had this problem. lol
The pacing kills it if it's bad. "linear" isn't necessarily bad pacing.
And those things you mentioned don't seem all that special. lol
@Axxidous Gameplay is tat, the whole second paragraphs point. The plot is hidden and deep to allow character development to shine through, whilst giving a subtle undertone of a great story. Loose ends actually gives the fanon a bit of fun by allowing various interpretations. And well you couldn't even make good stairs with a pacing graph. Chp0=Best it gets 1-6=Slow and Easy 7-11=Bit darker and Easy to get 12=Fast-ish paced but a framing chapter. Endgame=Good, but dear god so much getout clauses.
I do wonder if Square was planning to use this battle system when they first start making the game but later found out it didn't work out. Other then that I don't know why they'll release such trailers.
This is the best trailer, I think. I like how you see none of the other characters, it makes Lightning's epicness shine through :3 My boyfriend first introduced me to FF two summers ago, and this was the first FF that I anticipated to come out. Seeing this trailer was just awesome :D.

I was dissapointed that 13 didn't stay very faithful to some FF traditions, but FF13 is the one that I can relate to most in terms of character and story, and I found myself very invloved in this game.

People complaining about the Battle System being changed are idiots. You don't know anything about the battle system or how it played, you just like the flashy jumping around and you were stupied enough to think that you could actually control that. A real gamer doesn't want that, a real gamer wants the well balanced, challenging yet easy to use battle system we ended up with.
From the very start I hated the look of this battle system. It looked too overcomplicated and messy. I love what they did with it and it's one of, if not the first Final Fantasy game where I can battle for hours and hours and not get tired of it.

@Usul573 well, ff13 was ready in japan in early 2009 it took them a over a year to get it translated into english. Also games like that considering it wad the first next gen final fantasy they had to make an entire new engine from scratch. Most games just use an already existing engine and they just make tweaks to it

They remade the battle system at the last second taking out the timestop move because of 2 easy gameplay and then added other moves to replaces deleted attacks

Mmmm, that first scene in the train is almost exactly as it was. She fights tons of those soldiers and that creature as shown, she's never in the forest but you go there, and you fight that robot, but it does look a little different.
@diablopanqueque Well think about it, the FF series has been known for it's gameplay which involved strategies to be implemented as you get deeper into a battle.
If they were to use this style of gameplay like they originally showed, there wouldn't need to be any kind of strategy needed but mindlessly stringing combos.
I don't have any problems with how this one might've worked, but they have to keep true to the game as a series.

2-This engine could have alot more potential by using group swarms and party member switching forcing you to act fast, but still act smart, but then it will be too hard, and the feeble average FF fan will whine, whilst proper fans, such as the Dissidia 100%ers and those with a wider gaming berth will just cum with joy. I'm in the 3rd group by the way.
@FallenWhiteSaber You do realise replying to a year old commment after XIII-2 has been announced and that everyone has already accepted the game style by now. The 'Tales of' series has always had an active battle system, and strategy was always needed to be able to play through the game properly.
'Proper' fans as you call them wanted the traditional system that was set in the older games to FFX, while some wanted it this way. The trailer they showed wouldn't work for a Tales of game.

not as awesome as that scene, but the game features the most fluid battle system every created for a jrpg. Your character is not static but is always attacking or maneuvering through the enemies.
I dont think so. If you look at the battle huds and such you can tell that this is an older version or aspect of gameplay idea they mostly likely had for the battle system in early development. Notice how many eneimes there are on the field at once and even moves that lightning never uses in game today. Plus the hud setup is quite different from the modern one. Im just as disappointed as you though, becuase i love this trailer, I was hopping they would have this part too with all the enemies :(
trust me on this, its worth it, i already played the jap version and all i got to say, its beautiful, its lives up to the perfection as of final fantasy 6
my fav part is where lightning casts that timestop spell and she does a cool flip and follows with a firaga spell, too bad i heard the timestop got taken out of the game :(

Too much customization that pushes you to make all the characters the same, level grinding is a pain, and you still can't skip cutscenes. Futhermore, what's the point in watching them if they rarely affect you, or affect you little?

@13lace Errr, 1-I point you to the Tales of series...
2-This engine could have alot more potential by using group swarms and party member switching forcing you to act fast, but still act smart, but then it will be too hard, and the feeble average FF fan will whine, whilst proper fans, such as the Dissidia 100%ers and those with a wider gaming berth will just cum with joy. I'm in the 3rd group by the way.

@FallenWhiteSaber You do realise replying to a year old commment after XIII-2 has been announced and that everyone has already accepted the game style by now. The 'Tales of' series has always had an active battle system, and strategy was always needed to be able to play through the game properly.
'Proper' fans as you call them wanted the traditional system that was set in the older games to FFX, while some wanted it this way. The trailer they showed wouldn't work for a Tales of game.

I actually felt quite cheated, considering this was back in 2006, we waited years and got a battle system not half as impressive as what they showed.

not as awesome as that scene, but the game features the most fluid battle system every created for a jrpg. Your character is not static but is always attacking or maneuvering through the enemies.

I dont think so. If you look at the battle huds and such you can tell that this is an older version or aspect of gameplay idea they mostly likely had for the battle system in early development. Notice how many eneimes there are on the field at once and even moves that lightning never uses in game today. Plus the hud setup is quite different from the modern one. Im just as disappointed as you though, becuase i love this trailer, I was hopping they would have this part too with all the enemies :(

can i ask. is this a sequel or a prequel to any of the other games as this is my second final fantasy game apart from 10. and if it is a sequel i need to get up to scratch on the story. but if it is just on its own then GREAT. thanks for your help. :)

Too much customization that pushes you to make all the characters the same, level grinding is a pain, and you still can't skip cutscenes. Futhermore, what's the point in watching them if they rarely affect you, or affect you little?

I was a good game but it was a terrible final fantasy.
The story was poor. Nice try at something deeper but frankly i was on Vaynes side.
The fighting was dull and easy. Mostly dull there were a few challenges,
It was full uninspired things like, oh i dunno the elves sorry 'Viera.'
The characters were 2D, totally under developed.
Vaan felt like Tidus 2.
small gripe for me so many races, main party is all human and a token sex bunny.
well I could say more but I have 22 characters left.

It appears to be more "fluid" than the one we are being shown now.
I wonder if it has really been downgraded due to perhaps hardware constraints? or maybe this is my perception of it.

Can u simply believe that square enix has been inventing brilient new idea's for every FF game and has been successfull all these years.And final fantasy 14 is on it's way, not to mention the compleation of 13 and kingdom hearts.When are they going to stop?!
