  • BNSF has rules about operating long hood forward, I think you're limited to 40 or 50 mph. And since the long hoods typically don't have ditch lights, you're restricted to 20 mph over crossings, if I remembered all that correctly.

  • ok lets set things straight, THAT WAS FUCKING AWESOME.

  • nice a diffent view of a train lhf nice

  • For some reason, I love it when unit run long hood forward.

  • SD40MAC's look a lot like Dash 9's. Only Dash 9's have cooler sounding horns and cooler looking backs. And Dash 9's are very common. SD40MAC's are very rare.

  • WOW you don't see that everyday, those cars looked more new than anything, and DPU's on a empty run?

  • An empty coal drag going to a power plant? did i miss something?

  • Nice catch! Poor engineer though!

  • Never seen a crossing with lights that flash police car style...

  • whats with thecrazy crossinglight

  • And I thought only Norfolk Southern ran long hood forward, haw haw haw. Good show lad, good show!

  • Thats not a long hood engine. Thats just one of the engines running backwards.

  • @leedleface Known as running long hood forward, it is when the engine compartment is infront. so yes! it is running backwards but it is called long hood forward.

  • Thats not a long hood engine. Thats just one of the engines running backwars.

  • Very unusual. I know the necks of crew would be painful after while.

  • i bet they wanted to go in the back engines... wow...

  • It may have been cool to watch but not cool for the engineer of that SD70MAC. That locomotive has desk top controls so he has to turn away from the controls to see where he's going. Its ok for a short distance but not on a road freight.

  • @8747csx No. They have mirrors they can use.

  • @coborn35 We cant see everything through the mirror. The reason why I made my last comment is because I hired on with Norfolk Southern in 2001 as a Conductor out of Oakwood Yard in Melvindale, MI (Detroit). The older locomotives on NS are equipped for this. Some have dual control stands and some have the control stand just on the conductors side. The Southern built these to run long hood forward.

  • @coborn35 I was in an ex-CON C40-8W running long lond forward enroute to the Island (Zug Island) to pick up an empty coal train and had to call out every whistle post and dwarf for my engineer because he couldn't see. Trust me when I say its uncomfortable. My engineer was pissed. Desktop wide bodies arent made for long hood forward through freight operation.

  • @8747csx Right I understand I am a rail too. What I am saying is that you do not have to be turned around the WHOLE time, we use the mirrors alot up here. It is a bitch to run long hood forward I agree.

  • Yeaa This was awsome to see

  • SOUTHERN STYLE!!!

  • NOW THATS HOW YOU DO IT!!!

  • Thats right

  • I like that horn even though it's fouled. K3LA, right?

  • @moonwalker5058 Yessir

  • Just think all that coal and the hole in the ground. All the carbon from the coal in the air. Please conserve energy the planet is to big to fail. Where will we put the nuclear waste? Conservation, Solar and Windpower is the future.

  • @angelica14709 MAN YOU'RE ONE SORRY-ASS LIBERAL AIN'T YA? COAL IS THE WAY OF THE PLANET AND IT WILL STAY THAT WAY. WINDPOWER AND SOLAR POWER ARE JUST A BUNCH OF LEFT-WING BULLSHIT. OH AND THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF NUCLEAR WASTE EVER PRODUCED WOULD FILL ONLY ONE FOOTBALL FIELD A FEW FEET DEEP.

  • Yeaaa thats oklahoma ..lol

  • wth? that was so cool. and you guys have strobe lights at the crossing. sick. 5*

  • Thank you

  • cool video.

  • Thanks

  • Long hood foward leading a coal train???? That's awesome!!!!!! very lucky catch

  • Umm idk?

  • Cool! Why do they do that?

  • I've seen that once here on the Joint Line. i stupidly didnt get it on camera tho :/. Great catch!

  • Thanks

  • looks like maybe the DPU on the "front" end in this vid may have suffered a problem forcing BNSF to tack on the extra engine to pull the train to the plant...... interesting video none the less.

  • Lol....yeaa i dont know?

  • BWAHAHAHAHAHA, and wtf is up with the crossing lights?

  • That is nuts! I bet the crew wasn`t very happy!
