    Not even close to the same thing. The laser sail requires luff tension to bend the spar and take the proper shape. If you only have an outhaul then as you ease it the clew will rise and the leech of the sail will open up. With a clew strap you can control the depth of the sail without giving up leech tension. Without a clew strap the vang is ineffective too.

  • @Intensitysails Cleary, but why would you install this when the a side effect from the outhaul does almost the same thing?

    Does it prevent luffing?

  • Once the sail is in use it automatically centers itself on the round boom.

  • Seems to torque the clew to one side--is this O.K. for the sail?
