I was up at Chun Castle at the age of fifteen working on a farm with my brother, the farmer, John Trewern lifted us up in the bucket of an old Drott bulldozer, and with his
binoculars watched the Buccaneers bomb the ship,an experience i will never forget,
hope it never happens again. Russ and Malcolm Holland.

Aged 7 I lived in West Cornwall and remember watching the disaster unfold on television then naively asking my parents what would happen to the oil as oil floats on water. They didn't know and made some reassuring remarks about it being "washed away". I remember visiting nearby Porthtowan beach on a Sunday to see the oil first hand and discovering a large oil coverer boulder I didn't remember - it was a bloated, dead seal.
I was living in England and was 7 when this happened - the wildlife impact was dreadful - I hope that the gulf disaster stays away from the shores - it is unthinkable what will happen if this hits from Louisiana to Florida.
Draining the Gulf Of Mexico, preferably at-sea, as-I-type to address last-weeks oil-rig collapse unlikely; 40+ years-on coastal-rocks, coves... STILL oil-poluted.
Building one-or-more solar-array 'furnace' [up-&-running in Spain] to 'incinerate' contaminated sea-water is closest eco-friendly solution to-hand; WILL, by-definition, create 'free' electricity, much-exported to the USA.
"Torrey Canyon" had two sister ships. One burned in an explosion on the U.S. west coast, the other broke in two off the coast of Africa. All three were lost to wrecks.
Why the hell didnt they film them bombing it

This was one of the notable things in our islands' history, on one of the beaches over here they have the anchor embeded into the sand.

40 years later when ever there is a big storm the Torrey Canyon oil still appears at Sennen and Gwenver as a layer of black sand
