ive had my leo for 2 months, my method is to open the door (near the bottom of the tank) and hold my hand out, the tank is fairly small for him- im getting a bigger one- so he is very curious, hes getting closer and closer!

@squarerootof9001 the one i was holding was about seven months and the gecko in the tank that was looking at us was two...and the morphs are not known the change the behavior or living environment. Different individuals will differ in temperament.

@Kronosified i think the morph wouldn't have anything to do with the personality, though age would. The babies are usually more skittish.

I had mine for a day already. I handled him this morning he was really skiddish. A few hours after I fed him, I held him. He walked on my hand really calmly and concerned I slowly lifted him up and walked around with him for a little. I'll give him a few days to get used to his cage. He wont leave his hide above his heat pad. So once he gets walking around and all, I'll start to tame.

@kamenwimbleton mm depends how much your willing to pay for! I baught mine along with a 10 gallon tank and its supplies for around $300. The gecko itself is around 25-150 usually and could range even more. A normal geckos around 25. make sure u do ur research! and good luck!

@kamenwimbleton mine cost around £150 for everything, including the gecko. To be fair though, i have bought a few extra bits and bobs so just a little bit more than 150 i think. My Gecko was only £20 as he was a baby when i got him. Adult gecko's cost triple the price!

I got a white lined gecko, also known as a skunk gecko, and he dosent spaz when i put my hand in, but he doesnt seem too interested. Should i put my hand in at night, when he is more active? or in the day, when he perfers to bask under the heat lamp?

@reininghorses57 i dont know much about skunk geckos...but if its nocturnal, then do it at night, since thats when he will be more intersted. But if he basks in the day, it might be diurnal, so u should do it in the day time...depends when he is most active.

@brookeizthebest1221 Awesome! Let her get used to her new home for a week or two, and even if you want to start handling, do it very carefully and not to often. For that ten gallon i just have a heat lamp, which gives off enough heat for me, for my larger tanks i have a heat lamp and a heat pad.

@cupnugget209 well it depends how fast he get used to you. I'd say do it for at least three days, but if he still is very frightened of you do it for a few more days. And yeah you can take his shelter out or hes probably not gonna come out :) just have patients and respect him :D

@c032970 yeah, if you're using a white light as a heat source, your leo won't come out as often. Leos can't see black or red light so they will come out. White light damages their eyesight as well as keep them from coming out. Also he might be getting used to his new environment and it could take some time before he feels comfortable.

So how do u tame a really aggressive gecko? I got 2 juveniles a week ago and when I try to put my hand near one of them, it hisses and lunges at me. The other one I've already been able to handle no problem, so it's just the one. I've tried to take it slow, but it just isn't working! PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!

@Ash22531 they are biting cause they think you are gonna attack them, some will take longer than others, but just do it everyday for a few minutes, it should get them tame. Don't make any sudden movements and a good advice is maintain at the same level as them, they get freaked out if you top over them.
