  • this was a democrat, one of histories greatest men. Republican opposed entry into the conflict until Pearl Harbor. They were of course wrong all along. Roosevelt is a demon to most in the Republican party--particularly its strom troopers in the tea party. So it is ironic that this appears on this site. Thomas McCormick

  • Oh no, he's breaking the establishment clause! I guess liberals should hate on FDR for this prayer. He's in violation of the establishment clause. Can you imagine if FDR were a teacher today in America's classrooms! People would freak. God has truly blessed this great nation of ours because we're a nation that puts our faith in Christ alone.

  • @gunzrkewl context, please. I'm liberal, great speech he calls for a single day of special prayer. It's the people of the united states, giving prayer (their own) to the soliders at the end of each day. Let the words of prayer be on their lips at the end of the day, giving strength to the soldiers task.

I was raised Roman Catholic, and confirmed at that.

  • @gunzrkewl So in so far as religious tolerance, my family sees none. It is unfair though, to skew these beliefs as strictly religious, these are political views, let not the events of today skew your belief. Let not the obscurations of your beliefs lead you otherwise. We are united, and we have been since that great war, and it is Americans that reap the rewards of the planet together, not seperate.

  • Thanks! i'm in musical, and i'm FDR. The guy doing the musical wanted me to listen to some recordings of FDR to see how he talked and stuff. This helped!

  • Can you imagine FDR or any other President for that matter-until this imbecile that's in there now-going on an apology tour?!?...saying " America is not a Christian Country," ...who would play more rounds of golf than play our National Anthem...who would approve Eleanor-or any other First Lady- to " vacation " like Doris Duke, Barbara Hutton or some other spoiled heiress but vacation lavishly w/our dollars!? in Sun Valley or some other resort. This jug-earred imbecile-and his WIFE HAVE TO GO!!

  • We need a leader like this again!! The piece of Shiz in there now need to go....

  • @Rod1stiffington he needs to go NOW!! We have to wait until 2012 for Himself and Madam Mao Michelle but Frau Eva Pelosi along w/Dumbass Harry Reid can go NOW!!! This jug earred moronic imbecile, his Marie Antoinette of a wife and his communist buddies-along w/his apology tours!

  • @Rod1stiffington Well said! The piece of shit has overstayed his welcome?!? Or is it non-organic manure. Whatever, one cannot make a silk purse out of a sows' ear.

    [ Or a boars' ear]

  • Nice prayer FDR.. I bet those Russians and 200 or so million Christian Eastern Europeans enjoyed their freedom and liberty you spoke of in your prayer... So nice of you and Churchill to facilitate that for them... I'm sure they are much thankful to you for it.. I'm sure they enjoyed 50 years of Marxism thanks to you.. Burn in hell FDR and Churchill!

  • As a result of FDR and Churchill over 200 million eastern european chritians lived under a Marxist iron curtain for nearly 50 years after ww2!!! Churchill and FDR are both decieving scum of the earth scoundrels!!~! If they were good men they would have joined Hilter in aniliating Bolshevism.. Study America! You have witnessed the evil of Iraq. You know our leaders lie and it was no different under FDR.. Just more lies w/ out anyone to question them..

  • @coaltrader07 Uh...allow me to let you in on few facts. The War in Europe didn't end until May 8th, 1945. FDR died-that's DIED-on April 12, 1945. The Allies needed the Russians on the Eastern Front to push back the nazis' and stop them from getting the oilfields in Ploesti and other places east of E. Europe. Churchill voted out of office in june'45 replaced by Atlee. We still had the hell-bent suicide Japanese to surrender.Red Army parked it's savage ass in E. Europe...and stayed there!

  • @libralady1010 I don't dispute anything that you stated. Pretty much all facts; however, I question the reason we were ever allied with Marxist to begin with. I would have much rather preferred a Europe in which the Nationalist's ruled over. Furthermore, in America we live under a very vile and evil Jewish Apartheid. I would encourage you to carefully consider everything that you have always held true. GB is 90% right but 10% wrong. Don't be decieved.

  • Awesome prayer, I wish obama thought we were a Christian Nation and lead us in prayer. We need God's blessing. It matter's not what FDR's triumphs and failures were, because you and I have them too, but atleast he was a good leader in a bad time, he made the best of it, and I believe he did what he thought was the right thing to do at the time. I think this prayer was sincere, though you may think me naive. Nevertheless I continue to pray for our nation, our republic, and hope others will too.

  • Wow, I don't even think Obama has ever even thought about making a speech like this, it's too bad we have come so far from having real Americans like this

  • not sure what to say to that without inciting a useless argument. but thank you for at least giving the u.s.a. credit for saving half of europe.

  • Comment removed

  • you're right, i was wrong. it was MORE than half of europe.

  • @Aussiephil99 Hey...Fact: Churchill was voted out of office and replaced by Atlee and FDR died in April 1945 before the war in Europe was over. Oh...yeah one more thing: FACT: wasn't it a BRITISH PM -Chamberlain-who came back from Munich w/the infamous " Peace in Our Time." Somehow-IDIOT!-you left the f**king French out of all this!

  • I won't claim that this is FDR's greatest or most galvanizing speech, but it's my personal favorite: noble, understated, comforting yet resolute. It would be unimaginable, in today's stripped-down culture, for a president to infuse a speech with such lofty spiritual sentiments. (Too bad for us.) Great clip -- thanks!

  • If he had survived, Pres. Roosevelt would have been squarely for the G.I. Bill, something that helped veterans to move America forward after the war. Newt Gingrich, the poster of this video, would have been squarely against it, calling it an unnecessary government program. That alone speaks volumes to the differences between the two.

  • Newt supported extension and expansion of the GI Bill and VA plans in Congress...I dunno what Getting-Rather-Old-Turks propaganda rag youre reading, but check your sources.

  • Obama's prayer: Oh Alla...I mean god, please make the mean people nice, and shake our hands and be friends with us...

  • Somehow, the religious tone that FDR takes, is much more muted, and nonthreatening, than the mention of God today. It was an America I know so little of.

  • God is tainted by Lefty stigma...they flash the same individuals over and over and over to make you think all Christians are crazy...8 of 10 people you see are Christian...Bush's mention of God and religious tone was the same as FDRs, you just have a modified world view.

  • @whiff1962 That's because God has been taken out of Schools, courthouses, taken off coins, etc. and we're supposed to be " Friends," ?!? w/the countries of the bastards that flew planes into buildings and ran one into the ground-killing "civilian infidels." AND we have a president-an islamic idiot-who goes to those countries saying America isn't a Christian nation." He only used the Reverending Wright in Chicago to get votes. He is hellbent on destroying our great Country...and will be stopped

  • And people say Obama is a good public speaker? Yeesh. Our standards must have seriosly lessened. Public speaking seems to be a lost artform in America. The last great American speaker and President was Reagan. Obama can't hold even a candle to any of these great men.

  • Just listened, and watched, this and was deeply, deeply moved. I've never heard or read FDR's prayer before, but what a testimony to the faith and courage of those times. The picture montage was very moving as well ... and the concatenation of D-Day photos followed by contemporary photos I think is very on target. Gratitude for the brave men and women of 1944 and gratitude for the brave men and women of 2009 really go together. Thanks Newt!

  • V is for Victory and America will be ALWAYS victorious. Enemies do not kid yourself. We are Americans and will never give in or give up and we shall stand with Israel...

  • When a Nation has a leader who leads the people will always respond to stregth and courage. Anything else is unacceptable for so great a sacrifice to end in VICTORY.

  • I wonder who wrote this prayer. It's awesome.

  • Only a cynical fool can find cause for division in this when it's at moments like these we should be united.

  • Anyone else find the irony in Newt posting about FDR? I mean lol the two guys couldn't be any further apart.

    Newt= Neo-Conservative

    FDR=Neo Liberal.

  • It's not ironic. True Statesmen like Newt can look past party labels and even ideological labels to admire one aspect of a man's presidency. Conservatives can agree with FDR's New (Raw) Deal while still admiring him for leading the country in a fight against fascism. It's only too bad that the leaders of today's Democratic Party feel they can't invoke the name of the Lord or engage in war, as FDR did, against those who would do us harm.

  • Correct. Only the uneducated could think these 2 men would be so far apart.

  • Well said sir.

  • yes different in politics but, both were and are PATRIOTIC when it comes to America. Today's politicians who use the word "Liberal" are actually Marxists who hate the very concept of America. FDR's definition of Liberal is far different than today's, his Liberalism included God, Patriotism, duty, morality, and responsibility.

  • What on earth are you talking about? Today's liberals are Marxists? FDR was FAR to the left of today's liberals. Modern liberals are comfortably pro-corporate whereas liberals in FDR's day were pretty anti-corporate.

FDR launched the New Deal, Public Works Programs, the TVA, etc. Democrats today....well, they sign corporate/banker bailout deals and Clinton cut many welfare programs.

Your argument is silly. FDR and Progressives of his era were far more comfortable with social programs.

  • Pelosi, Reid, Obama, Biden and all those who think like them are Liberals? They are Marxists who use the words Progressive and Liberal. A Progressive is a Marxist who imposes their legislation over a long period of time. FDR at least defended Americans, there is no doubt Marxists control the Media, education, Hollywood, and the DNC...they think it's a right to have healthcare, a job, and a home. That is right out of the Constitution of the Soviet Union..redistribution of wealth-MARXIST.

  • @A86 That's because there wasn't any of this never-evending welfare bullshit-a new program created EVERYDAY and these " czars" we have! FYI...czar means Ceasar. We didn't have a president that partied w/the "follywood" elite and who spends money like it grows on trees. Didn't have one that went on an 'apology tour' either.Lived overseas w/my parents and NOBODY went out of their way to speak English to me.Yet we're supposed to reward illegals for breaking the law and have ESL classes for free?!?

  • @A86 Well what can I say? You've been drinking kool-aid again.Or perhaps since the cradle-flavored w/hemlock.No...jug ears has bailed out corporations, embraced the sons of bitches who're trying to kill us.Won't stop until they kill the 'infidel.'Doesn't have Stars+Stripes behind him whilst making a speech.Cash for Clunkers-a screaming success that one was[ NOT!]although it DID remove "obama" stickers off the road.jug ears "has spent nowhere near that much...SO FAR" .THAT SAYS IT ALL! idiot!

  • @A86 You are SO FULL OF SHIT!! I would answer your silly ass remarks but you're too much of a DUMB-ASS to comprehend! nobama is taking us-ALL OF US-back to 1930!

  • @A86 you're from the DC area. You'd be forgiven for such silly ass remarks if they weren't so dangerous.FDR created jobs.People had to WORK for the money. There was a real communist threat w/so many starving. There's a real threat NOW ONLY it's in the White House.Has openly identified w/Marxist professors, taking his stupid tour saying we are not a Christian country. What the hell's the matter w/you?! His goal is to overwhelm Capitalist System&keep elitists like himself whole. We'll ALL have nothing!

  • @A86 He's not smart enough to create any sort of New Deal, New Frontier or anything requiring BRAINS! No he's created the Hope and Change Gang who couldn't shoot straight!

  • @A86 Of COURSE he's never publicly identified w/Marxist professors. He openly embraced the Cloward/Piven strategy@ Columbia which "gaurantees a national income."We all knew @ Alinsky.Cloward/Piven plan is to overwhelm the current system we have by disrupting it through [mostly] Democrat "shock troops.'C/P were p. o in '66 because the dems had control of Congress and the Presidency. this didn't happen. We're done here in any case.Believe what you want. He's an imbecile w/ a credit card & an asshole

  • Thanks to Roosevelt and our other brave allies, we kicked Hitler's ass.

  • 5:00 Faith in our United Crusade

(yes we can yes we can ....Conserve * All Rats)

  • record it, and reverse the speech ;-)

  • What's with the Newt Gingrich theme? He is nothing more than a Baby Boomer Republican--always with other priorities than serving his country. A Chickenhawk. He is not worthy to stand amongst those who served. Hey, Newt, at at time of war, your only role is to shriek for a tax cut. Me, myself, and I, Newt, me, myself and I: the chant of the Baby Boomer Republican.

  • @Ladyrants Excuse me...Newt was born in 1943 in June. The Boomer Gneration didn't start until January 1st 1946. He was a War Baby-as in World War Two. GEDDIT !!!?

Handle this: FDR would NOT LOVE this. In case you haven't noticed, clip says FDR's D-Day Prayer. He would be appalled@the lack of leadership and the party, party of the current occupants w/their complete disregard for the Nation. Prayer? They haven't the time. And they're morally opposed to morals.Wear THAT BADGE!

  • How to become a Christian? Click on:

  • Amen! I hear that! :D :)

  • @jcrow28281 unfortunately, atheists will sue you for your dignity and every dollar you've got.

  • @jcrow28281Well it's not going to happen as long as Madam Mao Michelle& imbecile president are in Office. His mother was an atheist&Madam Mao said Americans were ' mean spirited.'That is until we started supporting all their vacations&his 62 plus rounds of golf.Even George W.,&the Clintons are looking good compared to this corrupt, marxist loving bunch.Oh:don't forget Valerie Jarret either, frau eva pelosi&Madam Mao's 22 assistants.A bunch of dangerous, imbecilic marxists!Go back to Islam& Kenya!!

  • FDR had an excellent speaking voice. Just listen to him. He has a way of making you feel like he's talking to you personally.

  • mmm im pretty sure he died in march 1944 :/

  • 1945!!!

  • April 1945.

You can tell just by this that he was alive in June '44.

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks, Newt. Glad vets like me can always rely on your support and prayers.

  • Correction: instead 'hope' put 'believe', and instead of 'is' put 'must be'. Sorry, english is not my language!

  • God answers all prayers. To hope that the answer is what we think it should be is a childish and selfish thinking, though.

  • Thanks Newt...there are a lot of us out here that get it. Unlike the idiot below.

  • You are an idiot.

  • Palin 08

  • why post it on june 5th have some respect and post it on its real date

  • If our leadership would lead us back to prayer and dependence on God...this country could be great again. Awesome prayer...thanks for posting. A great reminder of how far we have turned from God in this country, and what a price we pay.

  • ....and who says God doesn't answer prayer...

  • Atheism is a religon a belief system in all its structure apologetics and evangelism. Praise the LORD JESUS for faithful leaders who looked to Him and led people to look to Him in 'their finest hour'..

  • "Not all prayers are about religion."

    god bless FDR and America

  • I am Atheist. Don't do this God stuff.

This bloke though - he is the Greatest American of them All.

Re-built America when it was on its' knees and made huge contribution with UK and USSR to victory over fascism.

None of us would be writing now if it were not for him (in some small way)

  • He drew his strength and guidance from God. So you give credit to the man of God..but if he were here, he would give the credit to the God who created him for this great task. Don't turn away from the truth...God answered this man's prayers and the prayers of our nation in our darkest hours. God still answers prayer and just waiting to hear from you and bless you.

  • Utter nonsense. Patronising git. Didn't know you had access to FDR's innermost thoughts 63 years after his death.

Did God create Stalin as an ally for the task of also defeating fascism - unusual selection process?

Why didn't God answer the prayers of the 6 million Jews who were butchered during Big 2.

Your current loony president and our previous Prime Misister drew their strength from God so much so they started an Illegal War for oil supplies.

Give me proof and you'll have a believer.

  • WTF!!!!! America Suxxxxx Germany ruleeezzzz!!

  • It is still wrong to go to war with a country because we want their oil. May God forgive us. I know what imperialism, capitalism, nationalism look like.

  • Hate to point out the obvious, but we haven't taken their oil. In fact, they just let their first major foreign oil contract in decades and it went to...China.

Personally, I have a problem with that: they should reward our sacrifice for their freedom. But pretending we're there to "take their oil" is a joke.

  • They fight to end conquest,

    They fight to liberate,

They fight to let justice arise, and tolerance, and goodwill among all thy people.

... It's the same for all our troops, from the day when America was born.

  • Bullshit. Just look at the Indian wars.

  • What war, exactly? I served, and I am still trying to figure out exactly what all the fighting is for. It is not freedom. We've conquered nature; we have access to all natural resources; we've won the so-called space race; what the hell more could we be fighting over, other than puffed up national egos? And by the way, we pay so much for gas because the VALUE of the AMERICAN DOLLAR has FALLEN! I guess it is all part of the "liberal education" I received. YeeHaa, let's go to war and get'r'done!

  • Well, for one thing, when this war started, the Taliban (Afghanistan) was executing young girls for the "sin" of learning how to read; and Saddam Hussein (Iraq) was using poison gas against villages that he didn't like. So yes, freedom is a pretty big part of it.

  • If a President of the United States were to present these words today, what would the response be? Would some rise up and rail against this attempt at "establishment of religion?"

Would they demand a prayer to the gods of Hinduism, Wicca, and Islam? To Buddha?

  • We in this great nation have forgotten the importance of prayer in the public square. On D-day even those who gave religion scant attention took time, were reverent, focused on, rather than themselves, those troops fighting and dying on those sandy shores for the cause of freedom, their freedom.

Why do we find that such a difficult thing to do today?

  • Right on! As a 21 year old of this generation I am disgusted with the wannabe hippies who would back the anti-troop rhetoric of Murtha, Durbin or Kerry and turn a total blind eye to the heroics of great people like yourself who gave us such a great land to inherit. People need to understand that peace is not the absence of war, but the ability to defend yourself. Thank you for your service.

  • People should also realize that not every war is World War 2, and can't be fought as such. There is no evil empire to fight this time around, no demarcation between civilian and enemy.

I would also like to point out how funny it is that Newt and company are always disparaging FDR for being "socialist," but the moment he mentions God, look out. He's one of them.

  • Interesting. So, you are against people finding common ground with each other even when they don't agree on everything. I would think that someone saying "ok, I don't agree with him on everything, but look this is something he and I see eye to eye on" might not bee so bad in this day and age.

  • I may have read history wrong, but I think before America got into the war many Americans agreed with Hitler and his anti-communist movement. We saw Communism and Russia as a bigger threat and in some way he turned out to be right.

  • You're right. Check out the book "Liberal Fascism" by Jonah Goldberg. He covers that with great detail.

  • Yes you are right the left in this country saw Adolph as a visionary. They were in love with him UNTILL he attacked the Soviet Union. They admired his bold elimination of political enemies to further his socialist agenda. He was very close to joining the Soviets as allies. We are lucky his New Age fortune teller told him to attack Russia.

  • You are so full of shit you fucking retard.

  • it is a shame that your ability of expressing yourself is limited, do to a lack of knowledge pertaining to the english language. I'm sure when you respond to this, your choice of words will hardly change. For that I pity you.

  • Ah so I take it you prefer wwgiese's manner of expressing himself? In that case:

Why do you hate America and love Hitler so mucht Linda?

  • This is my last reply to you. For you know nothing of me or my thought process. For you to conjecture on my love of country because I criticized your vocabulary leaves much to be desired. My father was in WWII and my husband Korea(he is older than me, so you won't have to do the math). I stand for the National Anthem, cross my heart for the Pledge of Allegiance, and a member of the American Legion, where we keep in touch with our troops here and overseas. Hitler was twisted much like you.The end

  • Hitler was twisted lime me huh? I guess I could have done this the first time: SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU PIECE OF SHIT SICK BICTH!

  • Absolutely brilliant and marvelous prayer by Franklin Delano Roosevelt, my favorite Democratic President of America during the 20th century, unapologetic in its firm yet humble call to the Almighty Creator. Amen... thrice.

  • If only people would let us help those in iraq instead of pulling them out the second somebody gets a papercut...

  • I love FDR and i am very conservative...sorry to the far right who thinks we didnt need regulations back then we did for the depression... but we dont need them now and thats what the fuckin dems want... fuck big govt

  • Republican's, both in this administration and in Congress have made this the largest the US government has ever been.

They have screwed us for voting for them.

  • BTW I'm a Reagan Republican, Newt you need to run!

  • AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! USA ROCKS

  • I agree. To hell with the socialist bastard.

  • The hell with all of you. FDR was great. Better than that freaking scumball George Bush

  • There can't be a war without a enemy and a plan! If Israel could defeat 5 nations in 6 days, why is America sill having problems after 5 YEARS? The enemy should have been anyone showing support for radical muslem leaders, the plan, kill them without regard to borders.

The Middle East would be in recovery, and gas would be .95 cents a gallon right now

  • Both the Bush Presidents will be remembered for the lies they have told "Read my lips no new taxes" and any time GWB called this a war.

  • masha to you what if we marry all nation presidents from our own prediction

  • Of course I would always praise the brave American souls that lost their lives in the great battle between good and evil. We owe our freedom to the Americans!!!

  • God Bless America. God help us be as Spiritual as we once were...

  • Amen!

  • Amen.

  • Christianity has been responsible for the murder of more millions in the "name of God" than any other religion in history....what hypocrisy for those who claim to be the followers of the "Prince of Peace"and the "LAMB of God"...they are NOT Christians, but the followers of the Evil One, "who was a murderer from the beginning".....

  • couldnt have said it better.. ;)

  • Christianity is not responsible for those who commit murder in the name of God. Individuals who commit murder are responsible themselves. Not everyone who claims to be a Christian is one. Murder is the very opposite of Christian theology, however, it the natural outcome of godless amoral philosophies such as atheism which has led to more murder in human history than all religions combined.

  • I agree, Stalanism, Communism, Nazism was bred from humanistic man is god type of thinking. There has been more bloodshed from these regimes than all faiths combined. Now back to the video, what a beautiful prayer.

  • This is factually wrong. Also, I do not see how this has any bearing on the video---you sound more than slightly insane.

  • So you are saying what about FDR?

  • It is clear that the Allied forces helped us to overcome the powers of evil. I might not be a political friend of Newt Gingrich but I do acknowledge that the Americans helped us to conquer the kingdom of darkness. If it had not been for the Americans, we might still be labouring under the Hakenkreuz!

  • You're welcome. Nice to hear that the lives of our families helped the lives of your families.

  • I have always found it amusing that people that claim no belief in God get so riled up at the mention of His Name ;)

  • i've been studying WW2 for a long time now. and if the United States didnt join the war, if Pearl Harbor nvr happened the truth is Germany would have lost. The mistakes they made in Dunkirk, Battle of Britian and starting a two front war were things that would have slowly caused the Germans to lose, not through casualities but through having exhausted their supplies of munitions, oil etc.

  • naybe if the US oil barons didn't sell oil to germany and helped build up their war machine hitler would have been an easier target.

  • maybe if the british parliament and everyone else listened to Winston Churchill instead of calling him a racist we would have been able to defeat nazi Germany when it was still weak instead of waiting until 40million people had to die

  • Oh, join the rest of the World and cry how the US caused the World's problems,...learn the history, and if it wasn't for the US of A, the rest of the world would be speaking German right now,..you ass

  • I didn't say "the US of A" caused the problems I said some bussiness men from the USA were part of the problem, one of whom was your president's grandfather. I am gratful that so many people were willing to go off and fight the nazis, that means Russians, Americans, French, Canadians, Brittish, Australians etc.

  • There were no Sweeds that helped Hitler?

If you want an American that was supported Hitler you can add Henry Ford. So what?

Every country has jerks, America has a few great men also.

  • personally i think it's rather significant if it's henry ford supported hitler. sure there were swedes that helped hitler, our country was neutral during the war. I just thought it was interesting that hugely important personalities like your president has a background helping the nazis will the rest of your country was at war with them.

  • Lets put an end to the word "neutral", Hitler did not allow "neutral". Face it, you were complicit. Your country made huge profits from the war. America was spending 160% of it's GNP to keep the allies supplied. That's before we declared war.

  • As far as supporters of Hitler in the US the Nazi party was rather significant in the US. I may be wrong but I think I remember a crowed of 160,000 Nazi sympathizers. As soon as it became clear they had designs on our liberty, it became difficult for them to gather safely.

So on the one hand, America had people that supported evil, and on the other, people that stood up for freedom.

Same as today, symptom of a free society, America always has enemies within especially in government.

  • we half heartedly support germany with resources and troop transers up til 1942 or so... of course there were a lot of sympathizers, the fact that finland was in a war with russia made it more natural i think. don't think we we made a lot of profit, i'm sure some top business men did, but our country wasn't destroyed by the war like so many others. i wasn't implying anything about americans, i was just pointing to a few important persons supporting evil and got away with it.

  • Can't blame Finland. Soviets invaded them. West did nothing to help really.

  • the only thing that kept Britain from being taken over in the dark days before 1941, when it stood alone in the face of the Nazi juggernaut, was the lend-lease act, which gave them billions of dollars worth military supplies, which they never had to pay back in full.
