  • absolutely incredible vid to go with amazing piece of music!

  • What is manalishi?

I see The manalishi when i drink my 25-th beer... And ne is green... ;)

  • I like the Judas Priest version much better.

  • Jeremy Spencer said he could see demons coming out of the amp when Pete was creating this song and these amazing sounds

  • now go listen to man of the world hahah

  • Best song Fleetwood mac ever written, miles better than Albatross

  • Dark and nasty.... Poor Greeny... wouldnt have liked to have been him when he came up with this.

    it is Awesome tho.

  • super classic

  • Fucking awesome howling.

  • 4 people who can suck the sweet off of my bowls! Ha Ha!

  • The last song recorded by Peter Green with Fleetwood Mac and, in my opinion as good or better than Albatross, Man of the World and World Keeps Turning.

  • did this guy invision metal or what!

  • Some times it's a cover version that brings you to the original version...this is the great value of covers.

I love the original greatly above anything...but judas Priest did a good live version and should be applauded for bringing the original to the public notice,...who would have most likely have overlooked the original production. Stop slagging J. P. for doing a cover which may otherwise have disappeared into obscurity.

  • This is one of the darkest and wildest songs ever written. It sends shivers down me when I listen to it. Not so much evil as the thread of impending madness.

  • This tune blows me away - seems to me although these guys methodology undoubtedly has perpetuated ever since, converting that to mainstream listening whilst maintaining purity is a rare thing. Shame on the industry/society.

  • The best song about money ever written.

  • Rolled my car listening to this in 1994 ;)

  • thanks, i've only heard this version once before. so glad to have found it here

  • what a evil riff!!I fucking love it

  • It was Judas Priest's version off of Unleashed in the East back in 1979 that introduced me to the 1970 original by Peter Green and Fleetwood Mac. You can tell whatever it was that was bothering him at the time he wasn't holding back, and wasn't kidding, especially nearing the end of the song. Intense and Ominous

  • Greeny was a multiple Scorpio and this song captures that in so many ways. The intensity, the darkness, the paranoia, the depth of feeling...things that made him great... to me, the best ever, and what "undid" him.

  • I like both versions, for different reasons. I'm more familiar with the JP version, which rocks by all means, but I like the moodiness and atmosphere of this one better.

  • I grew up on 70's AM, classic rock then listened to metal when i entered my teens. I only heard the "Priest" version, to metalheads its a classic. At the same time most metalheads seem to be stuck in the metal band format, i was. Peter Green was not "Ahead of his time" as much as in his own place. Innovation is inspired, not bought. He was doing his own thing and God Bless him.

  • Hey, any idea what Green Manalishi means?

  • Peter Green said it represents the evil of money. There isn't such a thing as a Manalishi in any cultures as far as I'm aware.

  • As someone who has followed the Mac since the beginning - first saw them live in 1968 at a gig in Bournemouth (England), I heard several times that a Manalishi is a 'Devil'. And don't forget this wonderful sound would only have been possible with his dualing guitar buddy, the very young, and most under-rated guitarist in the world, even now, DANNY KIRWAN. At least Peter is back on the scene, poor Danny never recovered. Bloody total waste of genius.

  • this is the original Fleetwood Mac from when I was at school and lovin their music. You can't improve on perfection folks. Absolute Class!!!!

  • peter green rocks judas priest

  • couldent have said it better!

  • I only just heard the Judas Priest version. It's embarrassing that people even suggest that it's better.

:'( I only like metal, and Fleetwood Mac make stupid song with Stevie Nicks. They couldn't possibly have made good music :'(

    Peter Green!!!!!!!

  • My idea on LSD is that if you are f#&ked up mentally before you take it, you are going to be really f#&ked up during and after taking it. If you are a mentally stable person before you take it, you will have a good time before, during, and after. Peter Green was a mentally unstable person before and after LSD but, a real genius rock musician.

  • Maybe it wasn't the LSD that freaked him out. Maybe he just had one of those days when you discover that all the people that you thought were your friends, are just parasites whose only interests are running off to the land of the free to get stinking rich. And just to blow them off he wrote the best Fleetwood Mac song he ever came up with. Good on ye, Pete Mate!

  • judas priest did not write this...its awsome guitar work from the master of rock guitar.

  • judas priests version is bettr

  • I'm not sure about this one, I think the guitars are far too stiff and the drums are too strong and the timing overall is just too mechanical, plus Green's voice is a bit too soft for this song. Overall the song to me is not very fluid and that hurts my opinion of it. Personally I like this version but Priest's flows much better and Halford's voice is just godly to me, completely different approach than Green took here and I think they definitely pulled it off.

  • ummmm - you're comparing the original to Priest's version. This one was conceived and arranged YEARS before Priest's. I happen to like both versions but this will always be the original and therefore the standard by which other versions of this song are judged - not the other way around... peace.

  • I totally get what you mean. When you're covering a song, it's almost uniform to try to improve it in any way possible, so to compare the latter to the former would be pretty foolish of me, now wouldn't it?

  • I love this song, didnt know it was a Fleetwood Mac song till yesterday.

  • a friend who talked (or tried to talk) with Peter Green said he's so burnt out he doesn't even recognize old friends... sad... a warning about over indulgence in drugs...

  • "Burned out" is not the way to describe this dear man ... he has seen a devil-full of man's prescriptions for success ... and your friend ought to realize -- he saw Beautiful Mind, didn't he or she -- that schizophrenia is a mother-fucker ... it makes you see things you don't want to see. Peter will always be in my heart ... those who have crowded him out of his artistic talent, well, those will happily never reproduce and will finally go to hell. Are you listening, lady attorney!

  • Alibah - Peter Green said after doing LSD for 3 days he "didn't come back" (per wikipedia). Whether that triggered his schizophrenia or not, I don't know. I did a lot of acid and don't recommend it. LSD is a very powerful drug and not for everyone. Acid can push you thru levels of consciousness you are not ready for - making you see htings you dont want to see...

  • yeah, for the skirt crowd, hehe, haha, hahahaha...

  • and they are where ... exactly!

  • Great tune.Creepy night sky and the moon is evil.Nice video.Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac is the best.

  • Genius. Wonderful video, the best for capturing

    Pete Greens classic.

  • thanks once again my friend.

  • The 'Geen' Manalishi? Geat!

    Welease Woderick!!! He's a wobber.

  • real fucking great

  • i love fleetwood mac

  • I am a great fan of the Rob Halford Band, but, NO, the Judas Priest version does not top this. Peter Green is a voice from the otherworld (as is Halford at his best) and this is weird shit. Not to be tampered with. Timeless.

  • great song from 1970,how could someone better this,I agree with you.

  • Although I like this also.

  • Judas Priest version is better.

  • Creepy, spooky song. Peter Green at his best musically.

  • green manalishi is a form of acid, that just so happens to be green and served on a plastic frog head, with two pointy ears. HINT HINT

  • the song is about money though, how it ripped him apart. acid played a big part in that, hes come out and said that pretty publicly.

  • Question:

    What exactly is a "Manalishi"?

  • good question ! anything you want it to be but it dosent sound to good to me

  • @damnbacon88 From all reports the tune was about money and it's bad side, on fleetwood mac live Green says " It's about the devil"

  • @damnbacon88 my understanding from something I read once is essentially the 'devil' in money.

  • @damnbacon88 I heard it was somehing to do with a sixties Lsd trip in which as you well know Peter Green was in to

  • I dont know man, that is pretty subjective. I think it sounds pretty awesome. I could listen to this song all day. Its just an opinion.

  • To TMFP, judging from your channel, your taste is boring

  • please someone tell me which album this song is off please message me or whatever you do on this site!

  • this was off my 45rpm single but it must have been on an album , try some greatest hits it must be there somewhere .

  • @trichoone , what happened to the description about the Ethiopan dream?

  • @trichoone Its on the best of peter green's fleetwood mac. Its got like a light brownish colour. Worth buying for this, man of the world, black magic woman, oh well and albatross :)

  • this was a 7" single in may 70. namend the green manalishi (with the two prong crown). /world in harmony.

  • It's the opening track on the first "Greatest Hits" album with a red cover

  • I get a little spooked out every time I hear this tune. Have to be in the right mood for it. It's not for everyone. No wonder Judas Priest covered it, it's the blueprint for a classic heavy song. Great song.

  • Perhaps the best live version of this outstanding Green masterpice is to be found on the CD "Live in Boston volume one". Buy it, it`s outstanding all the way, and the original Fleetwood`s best.

  • hey guys please .. be friendly to eachother .. its 'only' music !

  • Personally I think priest´s version is awesome and this is really boring

  • You suck.

  • you are a prick, how could anyone say peter green is boring.

  • Waaaauh!

  • fleetwood mac were sublime at this point.green was a majestic guitar player who could also write songs.

  • agreed .

  • Man, youtube rocks , I never had a clue...I thank the priest for bringing this song to me!

  • Haunting, ethereal, spooky and heavy. Peter Green was one of a kind. Have not heard this in years, thanks for posting it.

  • Try listening to " The Green Manalishi " on the Compilation Album ' Men Of The World '. Then tell me if you managed to listen to the whole 15mins of honey without dropping a tear or your jaw dropping due to the immense power and purity of the Live Track...it took me to yet another level of my love for Pg......just when i couldnt have admired him more. Listen to that version and you'll believe :P

  • Priest isn't the only band who has covered this masterpiece.

  • Immensely powerful and hauntingly beautiful. It took him years to get over this song. Fantastic.

  • this song rules

  • I havent heard this in years!!!..thanks so much for this. A brilliant brilliant song

  • finally..dude i couldnt find the original anywhere on utube

  • I'm a priest fan but this version is great as well I can see why priest wanted to do a cover of this song

  • This kicks ass! Not so far away from the Priest version... ;)

  • Thank you, trichoone. I'll subscribe; looking forward to more of the weird & wonderful...What software did you use to convert the 45 to digital? It sounds great!

  • thanks i have plenty more to come hard sometimes finding good clips though . i used a ADS instant music tech box , but there a a lot out there - trichoone .

  • The picture of (I think) an album cover is shown at the end. Is this album where you originally got this version? I found a shorter version on a 45 rpm!

  • no that cover was just to show the group as they were in those day's , it was the 45rpm version .

  • does anybody have any idea where I could get this particular version of "The Green Manalishi"? I have the studio version (which lacks a guitar solo at the end), and I have a couple of live versions, but not THIS version.

  • hi sabbathman I think the only chance of finding this would on some re mastered compilation cd - trichoone .

  • this is the studio version

  • I figured it out... this particular studio version (there was a different studio version made of this song that isnt as spooky) can be found on "The Best of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac" cd.

  • this guy has too many great videos-he must be banned immediately!!:-)

  • thanks Celtic man i hope to make a few more yet .

  • SMOKES Zeppelin!

  • Yeah thanks for this rare piece. . .great work on the trippy video. . .wonder what visions were going through Peter's head during this trip!

  • Thanks my collection holds lots of weird and wonderful things .

  • This song is about the corrupting influence of money, the 'Green Manalishi' symbolising the American Dollar. That's what I read anyway and Pete Green did eventually give all his money away.

  • Thanks treefrog!

  • Yes, and that Fleetwood Mac thought he should leave the band because he wanted to donate all the money to charity.

  • no he didn't. though the attorneys certainly take more than he gets.

  • from wikipedia:

Green has explained that he wrote the song after experiencing a drug-induced dream, in which he was visited by a green dog which barked at him. He understood that the dog represented money. "It scared me because I knew the dog had been dead a long time. It was a stray and I was looking after it. But I was dead and had to fight to get back into my body, which I eventually did. When I woke up, the room was really black and I found myself writing the song."

  • Thanks KP5000!

  • Thats not how the song came about ill have you know. Thats completely chinese whispers ridicuolous...i suppose u think he's still digging graves? lol. This song was a culmination of many things....yes there was a dream involved but there was no green dog and it was far more complex than you speak....maybe the green dog story was for your benefit as to get the metaphor :)

  • i was quoting wiki. the part in actual quotations was from green himself. if you can reference a better website or explain it yourself, be my guest.

  • lol go fuck yourself

  • YAY, first rating. But seriously though, great work on finding this song, it's said to be quite rare. Nice trippy video and a great song. Me hat's off :P

  • Thanks and if this is rare stick around i may have more .
