Great game. Best part? You can get it on steam with Gunstar Heroes and a bunch of other games.

Genesis and SNES each had their strengths. One is not overall better than the other.

There is truth to the IDEA of blast processing. The Genesis WAS, IN FACT, the faster system. This made it the console of choice for action games, with its higher resolution, the ability to have much faster-paced gameplay (compare Contra III to Hard Corps, Super Castlevania IV to Bloodlines, or the different versions of Earthworm Jim), and the ability to have far more sprites on screen at a time.

Tip:

if you use counter force press B rapidly this makes a deflector beam

using this repels mines of most kinds

and the best bonus turns energy blasts from foes into energy stars

very handy when your backed with a boss

especially 7 force.

I own the mega drive version as its the best 21st present

as I was banned from buying it when I was 11 mum thought it was too violent thus was only allowed to rent it.

mind you I guess it was for its time.

Wasn't ignored by me in the 90's....I pre-ordered it and BTW the Japan version Box art ROCKS! I actually have the Original Screen shots of Alien Soldier from magazines where the Bird face was originally a man's head, and then it was an ugly alien, before it was the cute cardinal head he has now. Great review....This is in my Top Ten games of all time. Everyone with a Wii should get it for Virtual Console.

@stringanime After Gunstar Heroes, this is the game that made me absolutely love Treasure. I've simply never played a more intense and entertaining shoot em up. It really took my favorite aspect of most games, the boss fights, and cranked the awesome level up to 11.

@Quadraxis14 Yeah, they cut down the Lengthy business of getting to the bosses down, and really made the whole experience enjoyable. there is not a moment I would take out in Alien Soldier. WEAPONS and BOSSES, that's the name of the game. My top Five games of all time are #5- Bangai-o Spirits #4- Sin and Punishment Star Successor #3- Alien Soldier #2- Rakugaki Showtime #1- Advanced Guardian Heroes (19 playable characters in Staory mode,4 player vs, training mode with randomness,a survival mode)

Dude! Not cool :P, some people actually thought the game was a neogeo or saturn game. It's THAT good.

Very few SNES games reach this graphical quality.

@ShadeCS Yeah, I don't know any SNES games that had Alien Soldier level of Complexity of Rigs and animation and variety of COLOR scheme. Usually a Boss that looks good on an SNES animates like a Large Sprite Boss in Bonk's adventure, all flash and no Clash. I played Alien Soldier in a store when it was new and I was showing it off, Kid's thought it was for Playstation. Wow were they off.

It seems like an interesting game really, but the weapons are almost the exact same as in Contra. Buster Force - P-Shooter, Flame Force - Flamethrower, Sword Force - Laser, also sucks btw, Ranger Force - Spreader, Homing Force - Homing Missiles, Though the Lancer Force seems original. However, it still looks like a fun choice.

Nice work Roo. I have to say I am a big fan of treasure's work and havent tryed a treasure game I didnt like. Heck they even manage to put alot of quality into their marketing games (even a mcdoanlds one amazingly) which was pretty much an afterthought for most license game developers back then and even today abit. But we can look at it this way since we didnt get it: its pretty damn rare to find the cartrage in both europe and japan :P
