I didn't realize how different my sense of humor was from British people until I looked at this list. The one thing we can agree on is that Jimmy Carr and Ricky Gervais are funny. But I still think it is outrageous that George Carlin didn't crack the top 60!!! And Louis CK didn't even make the list!! Wake up and watch some real comedy UK...
@brez002 Well obviously this list is not the exact view of all British people, as I, like many think George Carlin and Louis CK are definately up there.
LOL I'm so glad I've watched this! It's introduced me to comedians I never knew existed, like Jimmy Carr and Jack Dee! I wish I'd discovered them sooner!
I love Jack Dee, i've been watching him with my mum since i was 10. He definitely deserves to be this high up the list. Well thats what i think x x x x x x
the 2010 version of this was much better in my opinion. George Carlin went up considerably, Bill Hick's went up, Ricky was no. 2, Stewart Lee went up considerably and Frankie Boyle was included! They also got rid of that fucking Dice Clay. So there's plenty of hope for comedy.

OMG I AM IN LOVE WITH GERVAIS! haha he's such a genius! I love Eddie Izzard as well, and i think he's like number 3 (sorry to ruin suprise here lol) but I don't think Billy Connely deserves number one, he is absolutely hilarious, but not quite that funny
Also, the reason so many people are confused by and misunderstand Gervais, his real personality and intentions is because when he's in character he just changes his thoughts. So it's realistic.
A lot of guys put on an obviously affected accent and prop themselves up, they make it immediately obvious it's an act. Which essentially, makes it less funny.
Gervais just alters his thoughts but keeps all of his own affectations so it's as natural as his own self.
If there is a man that should be called a comedy genius, it's definitely Gervais.
A lot of people, comedy fans etc. like to call his stand-up shit or not give him his due because they dislike him. Because they're morons and think he's actually arrogant lmao. And because he essentially started it on a whim and was instantly brilliant, so it annoys people.
But 'Animals' and 'Politics' are two of the best stand-ups ever. 'Fame' was great but he fucked up with 'Science', wasted opp with that.
@WelshDegenerate Don't be so sure that people call his standup shit because they dislike him.
Just this weekend I caught a bit of his standup again and was reminded of why I just can't get along with his work.
He built up to a point where he could have gone for any of a number of killing punchlines, but instead he went for a weak, cheap line which got just a tiny giggle. It wasn't a one-off either. Some people genuinely think his standup is shit after giving it a far chance.
@thirteenfingers There are quite a few standups I dislike quite deeply and yet I still see the funny side of what they are doing, or simply put it down to a matter of taste... but Gervais really is hugely overrated as a standup.
@thirteenfingers Well he's got worse. He does go for easier lines now.
But 'Animals' is an amazing show, and very original. And it's not about punchlines, it's apt observations and personifying animals, it's absolutely hilarious.
@WelshDegenerate I've seen Animals but didn't think much of it.
There were a few chuckle worthy bits in it, but only enough to fill maybe a 10 or 15 minute piece, not a whole show.
It's good that there are different kinds of comics who appeal to different people, but while I can often appreciate the appeal of comics I don't personally like, I just don't see it with Gervais.
His comedy is like poisonous darts to the funny bone, and it's very tight. He's loosened up a bit too much of late I think, it was better when it was tighter, more crafted.
Certain people suit that. I think his position was about right too.
Jack Dee is hit and miss. I always liked him but... even his good shows you can watch them and they have periods of duff moments.
But, that clip of him there, when he was like this kind of seriously downbeat, relaxed mean comic, it had a jazz to it and it was good. He's still never fully cemented himself in my opinion though.
Don't no why... I just don't find jimmy carr funny in the slightest. Theres something about him I detest. In the same way I loathe michael mcintyre. Give me hicks and carlin any day...
I've never laughed -- never even chuckled -- at a Woody Allen joke in my life, yet he always seems to show up in places where I'm forced to listen to and watch him. It's becoming a bit of a burden.

Woody Allen should have been higher than Jack Dee, much as the latter satirised misery-bouyant stand-up to an untouchable degree.

Ricky for me is number 1, Eddie Izzard is a good second.

@LamaHooligan What you said, but the other way around. With Dylan Moran being number 3. All three of them are absolutely brilliant, though.

@seanryan22 Woody was more into writing and filmmaking than the actual stand-up.
