this was a great video. the counter was in the way, but who cares. it was vintage Tempts post David Ruffin. They was still at the top of their game, even when Dennis came to the forefront. I met Dennis last year in Augusta, GA. A humble and still-talented cool cat.
Take me home, Nate ... I was in high school when this came out (dePorres is in the house). I used to listen to this on my little record player in my bedroom.
@MightyMite76 ... I was CRAZY about Paul, too. He was my favorite Temp. I loved his moves and his voice. I still swoon when I hear him sing ("if it's love that you're runnin' from"). Yeah, Paul had it goin' on.
@coomason5 Well you don't have to watch it then and besides, I don't think that you have to pay anything to be able to watch it. Some people are just so ungrateful.
How can there ever be the Question that DENNIS EDWARDS wasn't a true lead for The Temptations GOD smiled upon Otis, Eddie, Melvin and Paul when he put DE in their lives. No he was'nt David Ruffin but David was no DENNIS either. Dennis is a legend in every since that David was You betta recognize greatness
@themastersellers MOST DEFINITELY!! Dennis is a BETTER vocalist than David. People tend to like David's rebel tendencies. People who are respectful & cause no problems r always liked less that the troublemakers like David. Paul was better than David too. Paul was a great Tempt, the quintessential Temp and team member. I find that people who favor David favor Mike Tyson over Lennox Lewis, Allen Iverson over Kobe, Michael Irvin over Jerry Rice; in each case, the "good guy" was much better.
@dienglee Dennis racked up more fines than any other Temptation according to the history books. He was just as much or more trouble than David. Only differrence is he didn't threaten a top billing change. That's where David messed up.
@rsynth75 Well, I stand corrected. Perhaps Dennis had more fines But, I don't think Dennis had the drug addictions like David. Also, David was arrested several times and spent some time in prison.
@dienglee Yea...David was a mess by the 80's. But the guy had talent. I believe he was black balled Motown. They under promoted his albums. A crooner like him should've had a more lucrative career. Word also gets around though if you have a rep for not showing up for gigs or being difficult to work with. I always liked Dennis' era with the Tempts. Like Ruffin, he should've had much larger solo career as well. I wish Paul would have been given the chance to shine.
Great memories. Paul Williams (far right) was definitely the funkiest dancer of the Temps. You can tell by the extra stank he put into his moves:, the bobbing head thing, the extra dip in the kness... it's like he was doing a lil sum'm extra to get noticed. This line-up was the best, IMO. Man, i loved these cats!
One of the few times you get to see all of the dance moves. From a tempts fan this is great. Thanks for letting us see again why they are the best of all timeeeeeeeee.
@doowoppingchainsawer: cuz the original version actually went againist the grain when it was put on a 45. it was much longer than the average single. unfortunately, later copies of the single left out the last verse as well.
@jimy0803 Yeah, I remember hearing when I first heard the entire version. I was 8 yrs. old at the time and after hearing it, thoughts of running away from home left my mind.

they skipped the last verse again. IT is like that in another live performance on youtube. THe one that starts "Streets are dark and deserted"
Why?
doowoppingchainsawer 1 year ago
@doowoppingchainsawer TV specials have a time slot for everything, they probably had a 3 minutes time slot and edited the tracks for 3mins.
