They were examples of what many GLBT people deal with. My girlfriend and I have been screamed at by street preachers, yelled at by random people, been sexually harassed in a mall, etc. Experiences like this range from frustrating to threatening and scary, depending on the extremities.

I'm sure they weren't meant to be a blanket generalization on every preacher and person alive.
