  • It's quite appropriate that Richard would sing all of the parts in this song written in tribute and in honor of his sister Karen, relating to the old days when he and Karen sang all of the parts....

  • i like that idea too!!!

  • RIP lovely Karen

  • I don't have a problem with the singing of Richard in this one. And the blend with Karen was great.

  • RC continue to make a lot of beatiful songs! :)

  • Beautiful, but sad song.

Richard did have a slight lisp, but anyone who thinks this man is not talented needs their head (and ears) examined. He arranged ALL the Carpenters music and vocals... genius.

  • @JP5466

Both Richard and Karen have a lisp, but it was on purpose and contributes to the overall blend of their vocal sound. They also both had perfect intonation !

    Roelf Backus (NL)

  • beautiful song; i hate richard's voice.

"Your voice will be the sweetest sound I'll ever hear." now i *know* he's talking about karen.

  • Such a touching song... I couldn't stop crying. The simple message carried through so well with Richard's arrangements.

  • Actually I think Richard is a good vocalist. He has great pitch and a really broad range-- listen to him hit those higher notes! This particular song kind of reminds me of the Beach Boys' harmonies, and on some of the higher notes, he almost sounds like Karen.

  • Carpenters When Time Was All we Had Lyrics: That endless season When time was all we had We saw forever And caught it in our hands Life was a charm Our hearts were filled with music And laughter When time was all we had I never will forget Your face in silhouette Your voice will be the sweetest sound I'll ever hear and yet We knew somehow the song would never end When time was all we had to spend Lyrics: When Time Was All we Had, Carpenters [end]
  • @renadede Thanks for the lyrics.

  • I can't stop crying. His vocals are lovely, this song is gorgeous. thank you for posting.

  • Interesting song. Vocals remind me of Alan Parsons Project.

  • Richard you are the Best hands down. I Love you & Karen more than I could ever put into words on You Tube. The fact that you are a daily influence in My Life means something special. Karen was with us a short time, but what she has left us Richard, WOW.... No one could ever compare. We're so blessed to have footage, pictures etc.... Of course you have very special priceless items, photo's etc.... BUT most of all you have those very special memories. Thank you & God Bless.

  • BEAUTIFUL THANX

  • ...I love Richard's solo CD "Time."

  • Next time you see someone who's kind of fat, remember how much we'd love to have a fat-but-alive Karen Carpenter with us.

  • This song always makes me cry.....It shows that he really loved and cared for Karen....Such a shame she's gone =(

  • richard os great abd i missed his sister karen a lot

  • Love it, love SSoto, love Eventide/Aurora, love that Rich is still with us! Shared with carpentersgang & facebook.

  • your so right oakduke1 there is a lot of crappy singers today and bad music , some, even most things you cant understand a word they are singing , I wish Karen was here then we would have an angel again R.I.P Karen

  • Lisa, I couldn't agree with you more. I think Richard's vocals are brilliant in this song. Many seem to have overlooked that he was the genius behind it all! The Carpenters ( and other singers ) used layering and dubbing in their tracks. For The Carpenters, it worked very well and I commend and praise them for bringing such a unique sound.

  • You know, I hear all this talk of Richard being a great producer, a great arranger but a bad singer! I totally disagree - with the singing part, that is. I think he had the gift of all three.....this track is wonderful - he has a nice tone to his voice and like his sister, his delivery throughout the entire song is bang on!

    Great job, Richard!

  • @oakdude1, I feel the same way... he is great in those fields :)

  • This is one of my favorite song

    R.I.P Karen Carpenter.

  • cause karen wanted to touch him so much..

maybe thats why he was so untoucheble

  • yeah...he;s the best

  • These lyrics are wonderful.

  • Hi! Can you please send me a photo that is presented on 2:35?

  • so sad....

  • .,richard is really the best in writting songs.,

    .,also in singing.,

P.S. the pictures are really awesome!!!

    i love the singer.,

    i love the song.,

    love them all!!!

  • Thanks for posting! Lovely tribute!

  • why cant i play it?

  • Youtuve has problems, try again later.

  • I was heartbroken when she died.

  • So beautiful!

The whole story of her demise is very difficult to swallow'

The "Babe Ruth" part of the group may have departed but the "Lou Gehrig" lingers on.

  • so sad...

  • anorexia is not funny and not romantic, although i loved them dearly

  • Thanks for posting this. I always liked Richard's voice actually. Thought it complimented Karen's well.

  • he has a great voice

  • where did you got those pictures??

  • Most of them are from Internet, others I took from videos

  • ah!!so are you a Carpenter's fan too??

  • Let me see... I have each one of their albums (Richard and Karen solo included) I made more than 30 videos... I think I'm Carpenter fan.

As my family say... I'm tormenting them since 1977 :-)

  • really!!wow!!how I wish I have those Albums too!!

  • ts really nice to Know some one who is A Carpenters fan too!!

  • we r all over

  • Oh yeah!!!!Karen is so pretty and talented thats why all of us love them

  • @ssoko lmao @ tormenting your parents since 1977! =:^)

  • @59phonebone : Oh! yeah... lol

  • Great Pictures!!and what a great tribute!!

  • What a nice sad song. A wonderful tribute.

  • Thank you for posting this! Such a lovely tribute to a beautiful woman and voice! I sing her songs on my site to try to keep her music alive!

  • thank you ssoko for this video i always remember karen too

  • Hi, Richard. It's Lyon.

  • so incredibly sad. a beautiful song, a loving tribute from brother to sister. so tragic. That's none other than Herb Alpert on the Fluglehorn, which makes it even sadder.

  • Richard really could sing, and this song really brings out his overall talents as singer, and composer. A fitting tribute to his sister Karen.

  • excellent!listen to it all the time..shows how much an important element richard was to the carpenters...

  • so sad!

  • For fellow Carpenters fans, I'll add that this song/video shows HOW MUCH Richard's arranging, composing, and YES--vocalizing--contributed to his awesome records with Karen. You can even something of Karen's voice in Richard's here--amazing. And what a REMARKABLE and fitting lyric the stunningly talented Pamela Phillips Oland wrote for this song! (Her website reports she's currently co-writing 8 songs with Richard for his upcoming Christmas album--fantastic!) God bless you, Rich, Karen, and Pam.

  • Wow. I didn't know that she was responsible for the lyrics of this song.

Indeed, I love the song she and Richard wrote together (like "All those years ago")

  • Very nice.

  • Richard's voice reminds me of the Beach Boys...he doesn't have a bad voice by any means, it's just better heard as part of a harmony, as he sang with Karen.

  • wow algo que no me puedo expicar es como el el hizo para soportar todo ese dolor de perder a su hermana despues de haber compartido tanto juntos y ser uno solo en la musica wow de verdad admiro a richard y sus canciones son fabulosas por que salen del corazon

  • Really finely sung a capella song and a good video!

  • The song is beautiflly done, but is it me or is that trumpet solo scary? It's comical to me. I wonder who was playing the trumpet on this recording? It should be re-recorded.

  • You're right, I don't like the trumpet solo aether but... Herb Alpert gave them the opportunity to become famous... so... :-)

  • It's actually a flugelhorn; that's why it sounds a bit like a French horn. I agree that it sounds odd, but Richard must have liked the sound....

  • If there is any problem with the song it's how loud Karen's absence is more so then any lack of talent on Richards part. This Imperfection is really what makes this song such a beautiful tribute. It's as if he is saying "My music is incomplete without you."

  • Wouldn't it be amazing if our own family members paid this type of tribute to the love for each other we all share. Karen's and Richards voice will always be the voices that shine. She is so greatly missed.

  • Beautiful, yet very sad song.

  • Lindo Tributo a Karen!.

  • I love this song thanx wish tho you put TIME in there that sooooong is soooooo cooooooooool :) thanx again for this wonderful song & video :)

  • Extraordinario!!!! Un gran y hermoso trabajo. Coincido completamente con tu comentario. Excelente!!! Germán.

  • Wow! Por fin un comentario en castellano... :-)

    Gracias...

  • Fabulous !

Richard was really finding his own voice here and I think Time is brilliant but it got slated by the critics and I think that knocked his confidence as a solo performer which is tragic. He is up there with Brian Wilson as far as I am concerned as a writer and arranger. Its now 20 years since Time was released and had it been more sucessful we could have enjoyed so much more of Richards talent.

  • I really love his first solo album, but I think (unawarely) he boycotted his own work... probably he couldn't release an album without Karen, because his second album was a carpenter's one...

  • Are you kidding me?? Critics actually knocked this performance. I bet it's the same critics who are raving about SOME of today's music, which by the way, is crap!! I think the world has gone completely tone deaf with SOME of what's heard on the radio today!

  • @oakdude1 You are so right. No one will ever come close to Karen's Voice. She is deeply missed and loved to this moment. Thanks

  • You couldn't have said it any better. Atleast THIS music is real and Richard's voice isn't a computer.

  • Words simply cannot describe the feelings brought forth by this fabulous piece of musical history.

  • why cant i find this song anywhere!!!!???

  • Richard's album, Time, is hard to find. I found this song using emule...

  • Richards voice is magnifident! We certainly don't hear him sing enough. I got to meet Richard last year. It was'nt even 5 minutes, but what a major highlight in my life. I miss Karens angelic voice. When my time comes, I look foward to meeting her.

  • I agree with you... certainty he has a good voice and we don't give him the credit he deserve. I love Karen's voice, but was Richard's knowledge of her that let her sing the way she did...

  • Beautiful song and video. Let there be no doubts as to how much Richard loved his sister. He's not a touchy, feely type of guy, but this song gets to the depths of his feelings of sadness regarding his loss. He misses her, the whole world misses her, and I sure miss her. Great post!

  • I wanted to ask, How do you know Richard Carpenter is not a touchy feely kind of person? He has 5 children! Please resond. Thank you

  • He himself admitted it on different Carpenters documentaries. Maybe he has changed after Karen's death and birth of his children, but before that he really wasn't touchy feely kind of person.

  • So many critics of Richard's "Time" album. If only people could understand what it must have been like for him to lose Karen. This is a heartfelt and appreciated tribute to the amazing spirit and Legacy of Karen. I know I think about her each day. She

is greatly and deeply missed. I imagine what could have been had she lived. Thanks for the hard work on this video.

    #1KACFan...Robin

  • thanks for posting this :)

  • It's very nice to see the process to successful. Richard and Karen Carpenter through images!
