He didn't call himself Jim Nastic in those days. And yes, it's Kipling, but the 7" says Clipping and I don't want to be Mr. Fancy Pants and correct it.
The song is actually called "Kipling" Not Clipping. But Coxsonne fucked up a couple spelling of his records.
Also that is not the Rude boy Big Jim Brown (Lester LLoyd Coke) from Tivoli Gardens. Two different people.
Jim Brown also pressed the singer at a dance to change his name or he would be dead. So Jim Brown the singer changed his name to Jim Nastic. The murderer Jim Brown was an awful individual who had no regard for human life and should never be praised.I'm glad his fat ass is dead!
I SAID THE SINGER JIM BROWN IS NOT THE SAME BAD BOY FROM TIVOLI GARDENS. THEY ARE 2 DIFFERENT PEOPLE.
The killer's name was Lester lloyd Coke. He was from Tivoli gardens and ran a drug crew called the Shower Posse with a man named Vivian Blake. He had nothing to do with music.
Look up the name Lester lloyd Coke and you will see pictures on the net. Its shameful you guys don't know your history. I'm only 29 and wasn't even around for half this stuff.
If you hear the song. He says Kipling Not Clpping.
Henry Kipling was the name of a slightly famous Chinese store owner from Kingston. Who made heavy money becouse he owned horses and raced them every sunday. He prize Jockey was George Hussong.
If you listen to a Dillinger track called "Caymanas Park", You will hear Dillinger speak of George Hussong the chinese jockey. What do you think, all this stuff was made up? LMAO
No man, George Hussong is an old man now or probably dead. I guess people do speak of him from time to time cause he was a good jockey and made people rich.
as far as Bunny Lee, I don't know. Chinese Jamaicans were always known to own businesses in Jamaica and be rather wealthy just like Byron Lee. But i don't know how close knit these Chinese Jamaicans were. The Chinese and Indian Jamaican communities were small,Not many.
Truly - If you look at all my comments on this page, then look them up over the internet - you will see that they are true. My father was a trombonist for studio one and played this tune. So trust me, i come from a family of kings and queens and i know whats up.
Sorry, I accidentally removed your comment below. Anyway, I believe Yellowman's tune is older than this one. Maybe "Mr. Chin" is just one of those names that in these days for some reason where used quite frequently, like "Sandra Lee" and someone named Wong.
I have no idea of the original title, although I figured it was Kipling and not "Clippin" since he, indeed, actually sings "kipling". However, the tune was taken from Soul Jazz' Studio One DJ'S Vol. 2 where the tune is titled "Clippin". So I guess this is one of those kinda tricky ones, hehe. I think Soul Jazz has done a great job with all their massive collections, but still, pretty sloppy of them to "mistitle" tunes like that (if it's actually what we're dealing with here).
Are you sure about the title actually being "Kipling" and not "Clippin"? Maybe "Clippin" is one of those classical mistakes at the pressing of the vinyl? I've seen a lot of hilarious misspellings through the years, hehe!
Keep the discussion going and maybe I'll change the title! :D

You wouldn't believe haow many records i have that have mis-spelled names. i even have more record where the same band would play the same dub,but mix it differently and call it 2 different names entirley. But you can't blame them. They didn't know we in 2009 would be digging in the crates.

"Mi never know Kip Lin could ah sing.."
