Buggles, i thought he wouldn't sing, at his age.. Love your song and wow he is something...We'd probably never get a singer like him ever again... All respect goes to this man and his crew... GO Buggles GO!!
@Jessiefangz I'd disagree, I'd say his pronunciation changed a bit, as for singers, dunno if it's all the same, but there's an accent one of the women had if you compare it to the original one that makes "Star" sound a bit funny.
Watching this video is like watching The Beatles perform. Its just a timeless classic unlike todays artist that most of them cant even come up with their own music or lyrics.
I am 60 and watched them in the first MTV video broadcast in 1981. It makes me smile when teenagers 'discover' this song. There is at least 3 generations that now appreciate the work from this band. Trevor Horne (vocals, bass guitar), Geoff Downes (keyboard) and Bruce Wooley (guitar) wrote the song and were accompanied by Debi Doss and Linda Jardim (backup singers). They are all original members of the band. One of the best songs ever!
@baggie00001 You are quite right, Hans Zimmer was in the original video. He played keyboards and synthesizers and Paul Robinson played the drums on the record. To clear up some confusion below, The record came out in 1979 and then was the first video shown when MTV first began on August 1st, 1981. It is amazing how people came briefly together to make such a truely classic song.
They missed becoming a superband by INCHES!!! Still superb after 25 years. The two ladies at the end on the right are the original backup singers. Just awsome talent by all the band members.
After 25 years they still sound awesome. I think that the live concert was really good considering all the original singers and the original drumers and everything. I think that it's better than the 1979 edition. Way to go Buggles! My favourite part is 2:22 - 2:51 and 3:14 - 3:54.
I wasn't even born yet when this song was released years ago . . . I fell in love with it playing the game GTA Vice city . . . . AWESOME SONG!!! AWESOME ARTIST!!!
@josephusHJ ok so 21 an your listerning to this?? get a grip! you should be with the tiny/tinchie/etc crew. I am old enough to be your mum, and that counts for not being in a conversation with you. goodbye and good luck hunny.
Ohhhhh....such wonderful memories, riding my parents car while they sang this to.the top of their lungs. I'm 39 now but i still remember that summer of 79, I was 7 but fell in love with that keyboard riff. The masters Geoff Downes and Trevor Horn
@Specialcadetonboard Because the people who still listen to good music dont go on youtube to listen to it. We still have CDs and extensive MP3 libraries.
In my opinion, one of the songs which defined my generation. Great song, fanntastic group! I was watching when Buggles was was the first video shown on MTV in 1981. They were a technically superb band.
@bcousins1 "VTR" is correct, or at least it was the lyric in the original version. It referred to a Video Tape Recorder used in TV production. I doubt that VCR was a commonly understood phrase back in 1979. Of course, the reverse is true now.
This video blew my mind. This video was a hit on the radio when I was a kid, and this video was the first music video played by the first music channel. The beginning of a new era.
And now here I am, browsing through old eighties videos on Youtube, and I come across the old Buggles video, of which I don't think I've ever sat through the whole video, and I reminisce a little of a history that I feel a part of, and then I look over and click on the old guy nailing it in 2010! My brain froze.
Singer's voice's become bad after preforming for a long time, but he hasn't preformed in 30-somethin years, so he had time for his voice to recuperate
this is an amazing song... all around most of the people on here listening to this are either recognizing this from a game or wondering why this old guy is singing...
