  • This is the 1st ever song shown on MTV (obviously not this video)

  • true artists

    right there

  • 14 people were killed by video.

  • Where can one buy the mp3 of this? I can't find it on iTunes.

  • Gotta love it. they sound just as good in person as they did on the album!!!

  • Awesome!

  • didn't know he played the bass and didn't know a bass could have 5 Strings

  • Times changes, shit happens but somethings stay the same.

  • "Bitches came and broke your heart."

  • Buggles, i thought he wouldn't sing, at his age.. Love your song and wow he is something...We'd probably never get a singer like him ever again... All respect goes to this man and his crew... GO Buggles GO!!

  • His voice didnt change what singer same goes for the two ladies!

  • @Jessiefangz I'd disagree, I'd say his pronunciation changed a bit, as for singers, dunno if it's all the same, but there's an accent one of the women had if you compare it to the original one that makes "Star" sound a bit funny.

  • Awesome!!! Go Buggles!!

  • My 4 year old loves this song so do i its so great we have it on just dance

  • @vanilla7944 i have have just dance 3 too!!! :) me and my dad dance to it :D

  • Wow! They nailed that, great song and super great performance here. Made my day.

  • oops ! my mistake Buggles 56

  • still after 30 years the music of the boggles reigns supreme....Fanastic out of this world! 56

  • Still got it

  • @Spotteamsafety Good point.

  • So great memories! I was young then. Nice song, the first music video on MTV.

  • GRAND THEFT AUTO!!

  • I've been boring and I've written the tekst of one of the songs from Grand Theft Auto in youtube search. I didn't know that this song is so old :)

  • Brilliant..... theyare all still look cool huh?

  • Wow, Trevor Horn still has a great singing voice, and still gets down!! Wish he would hav made more albums with Yes though.

  • I get chills every time she starts singing "You AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARE THE RADIO STAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR"

  • I feel chills and the hair on my arms stand on end in the fist chorus... exciting

  • Watching this video is like watching The Beatles perform. Its just a timeless classic unlike todays artist that most of them cant even come up with their own music or lyrics.

  • he kept those glasses for all those years. epic.

  • I am 60 and watched them in the first MTV video broadcast in 1981. It makes me smile when teenagers 'discover' this song. There is at least 3 generations that now appreciate the work from this band. Trevor Horne (vocals, bass guitar), Geoff Downes (keyboard) and Bruce Wooley (guitar) wrote the song and were accompanied by Debi Doss and Linda Jardim (backup singers). They are all original members of the band. One of the best songs ever!

  • @dansurr13 I thought Hanz Zimmer did the keyboards aswell for this song.

  • @baggie00001 You are quite right, Hans Zimmer was in the original video. He played keyboards and synthesizers and Paul Robinson played the drums on the record. To clear up some confusion below, The record came out in 1979 and then was the first video shown when MTV first began on August 1st, 1981. It is amazing how people came briefly together to make such a truely classic song.

  • That was the 1st videoclip ever, back in 1979...

  • Still powerfull voice!

  • that was the best sounding floor tom ever

  • They missed becoming a superband by INCHES!!! Still superb after 25 years. The two ladies at the end on the right are the original backup singers. Just awsome talent by all the band members.

  • coooooool

  • DEBBI DOSS!!! What an incredible voice!

  • Original two backing singers are still there?!

  • The man has talent I can see what YES saw in him 30+years ago...that being said...HE'S NO JON ANDERSON!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 2.22 how superb that singers sounds!!!!!even better live!!!!

  • 1:43 why are you late for the show!!!!

  • Much better than expected

  • I WANT A GRANDFATHER LIKE HIM

  • lol fur real pretty gewd live performance

  • After 25 years they still sound awesome. I think that the live concert was really good considering all the original singers and the original drumers and everything. I think that it's better than the 1979 edition. Way to go Buggles! My favourite part is 2:22 - 2:51 and 3:14 - 3:54.

  • 2:22 My favourite moment of the song...

  • 1:58 guy in crowd cant handle the awesome, he leaves to go cry.

  • Are the backgroundsingers Debi Doss und Linda Jardim.?

  • Epic Old Geek !

  • Bello recuerdo de The Buggles 1980.

  • I wasn't even born yet when this song was released years ago . . . I fell in love with it playing the game GTA Vice city . . . . AWESOME SONG!!! AWESOME ARTIST!!!

    MUCH MUCH RESPECT! ! !

  • @josephusHJ omg it was the first tune ever video. ty for the respect; we r old enough to be you dad/mum hell makes me feel very old, an im 43!!

  • @sjcannell I'm 21 . . . Don't say that, nobody's old or young when it comes to classy taste for music. . . :)

  • @josephusHJ ok so 21 an your listerning to this?? get a grip! you should be with the tiny/tinchie/etc crew. I am old enough to be your mum, and that counts for not being in a conversation with you. goodbye and good luck hunny.

  • @josephusHJ We share the same story then :)

  • @josephusHJ haha ye vice city i remember it on that :P

  • @josephusHJ OMG i first heard it on GTA too XD it was so good and i beat the whole gaem

  • @doctorsnout: You learn something new everyday.

  • Ohhhhh....such wonderful memories, riding my parents car while they sang this to.the top of their lungs. I'm 39 now but i still remember that summer of 79, I was 7 but fell in love with that keyboard riff. The masters Geoff Downes and Trevor Horn

  • Sounds great!!

  • I wish there were more songs like this one - It is just awsome!!!

  • mm i love that woman in the green coat, milf!

  • omfg so great

  • How does this not have more views?

  • @Specialcadetonboard Because the people who still listen to good music dont go on youtube to listen to it. We still have CDs and extensive MP3 libraries.

  • In my opinion, one of the songs which defined my generation. Great song, fanntastic group! I was watching when Buggles was was the first video shown on MTV in 1981. They were a technically superb band.

  • BRILLIANT!

  • Being old and this much awesome? Respect.

  • @SimonLies so good,so perfect,heh

  • Sorry ment vcr not vsr ......vsr doesnt even exist

  • It may be 30-some years later, but this sounds amazing. Just...wonderful.

  • @needstoregister, I think it's "put the blame on VCR" The reason I say that is that it's VCR which would've killed the radio star

  • @bcousins1 "VTR" is correct, or at least it was the lyric in the original version. It referred to a Video Tape Recorder used in TV production. I doubt that VCR was a commonly understood phrase back in 1979. Of course, the reverse is true now.

  • This is great music. It would be nice if todays music people went old school.

  • 0:41 Playing the Bass like a boss !!

  • 12 people are gonna get killed by the radio star

  • Vsr havent heard that for awhile lol

  • Awesome

  • Lead singer is Trevor Horn. Produced all of Seals albums.

  • Put the blame on VTR!

  • The crowd seem so still.............I'd be up and dancing lol

  • Damn....They sound really good! Totally kick ass!

  • Legendary is the word

  • Amazing this is the first time, and presumably the only time, the original performers have done this live. Pretty neat.

  • Second one :)

  • Perfect!

  • and a shit load of memories !!

  • for the first song ever played on mtv in 1980 and now live 2004 still sounds amazing!! goose bumps just hearing it !!!

  • This video blew my mind. This video was a hit on the radio when I was a kid, and this video was the first music video played by the first music channel. The beginning of a new era.

And now here I am, browsing through old eighties videos on Youtube, and I come across the old Buggles video, of which I don't think I've ever sat through the whole video, and I reminisce a little of a history that I feel a part of, and then I look over and click on the old guy nailing it in 2010! My brain froze.

  • 大好き

  • and piracy is killing record labels.

  • Too late for that, the record labels are already doing that themselves.

  • ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh radio star!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Same back up singers as in 1979! Excellent :))))

  • and so he became einstein

  • bitches came and broke your heart...hahah

  • Play it again...

  • the 70s are back yay

  • Horn always in good form!

  • killer song, singer, of course!

  • i thought the back up singers were good...

  • Hey, who knew that the lady from A&E's "Intervention" was also a backup singer?

  • singers is what I meant

  • he sounds good can't say for the back up stars.

  • Incredible, as faithful to the original as can be. Voices, timing, took me back to 79.

  • wow I always that in check it out it was nicki singing the Oos

  • Why is it sped up?

  • the guy can drum

  • backing singers look like a few (?-) of my ex girlfriends! Loved the song then and more so now!

  • shes got a good voice too!

  • Comment removed

  • Lamar smith killed the internetstar :(

  • He still has it!

  • remember the good ol' days when MTV still showed music

  • Really good:))

  • Their voices are all still amazing. Especially the original back up singers. This song is amazing and even better live!

  • It's much faster than the original song.

  • real music right here

  • i did not except that

  • lol prince charles played GTA vice city?...

  • 1979. Video killed the radio star

    2012. Youtube killed video

  • OMG I WAS SO YOUNG WHEN THIS SONG CAME OUT <3!!!!!!!

  • I love this song

  • I wish I could pull off those specks

  • It's Robin Leach on bass , vocals !!! Lol

  • i love it

  • This is 5,000x better than anything I have heard out of a live performer lately and this guy/group is HOW OLD? WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS INDUSTRY.

  • this song is better than every song played by mainstream music today

  • Compared to the original song, it seems a bit rushed...

  • Wonderful to see the original backing vocalists have still got it too; that solo always sends shivers up my spine...

  • hes still got it even if he dosent sond like a computer :D

  • epic!

  • This guy has a great voice. You can understand every word he says.

  • there are bands from the early 2000s whose voice is already fudged, this has been 33 years and his voice is still beast. He knows what hes doin

  • @SammaLammaify It's easy to preserve your voice when you're not performing nightly. They were prophetic, but one hit wonders none the less.

  • @SammaLammaify agreed. but he hadn't performed this in 25 years, these new bands never stopped

  • @SammaLammaify

Singer's voice's become bad after preforming for a long time, but he hasn't preformed in 30-somethin years, so he had time for his voice to recuperate

  • Everytime i have played GTA i heared this music in the Radio. I searched then this video..

    Its awesomeee :D

  • @geep9 Gasp! You mean to say that singers actually have voices? (sarcasm)

  • this is an amazing song... all around most of the people on here listening to this are either recognizing this from a game or wondering why this old guy is singing...

well hears a little history for you... the buggles played this song on mtv back in 1979

well that was the first music video to be aired on mtv ever...

  • @TheMadpivot I've been told that about 20 times now...

  • GTA vice city

  • This is on just dance 3 i love it lol funn

  • A real class act. Quite rare. Thank you!

  • I dont remember all those other people in the video just some guys and two kids on a T.V.

  • This is on Just Dance 3! I love it!

  • Сейчас мало кто так умеет петь и играть!
