See, companies benefit more if they give you X treatments for X cash instead of a cure, because you'll, or your employer will be, forced to pay more money. Scandinavian health care is among the best in the world, and it's free for anyone who lives there.

Philosophically-speaking, I believe that healthcare should remain in the private sector here in the U.S. It is definitely not perfect, far from it, but I believe it is far prefereable than for the government to play a larger role, at least here in America. .

Yeah, there is this thing called a recession where unemployment increases and government revenue decreases (fewer people paying less in taxes). I won't say Bush caused it, nor does any president including Obama have much control over business cycles, but that is a major cause of worldwide deficits. Plus, Bush did cut taxes while starting 2 extremely expensive wars, and mandating a very expensive prescription drug plan for seniors, so much of these economic issues were predetermined.

So we can both agree that both parties have some blame in increasing the deficit and debt over the last 10 years. Maybe it's time for a third party. Obama campaigned on the promise of universal health care, and the people voted him in. He kept that promise, so if they don't like it they can kick him out again. When the gov. spends money, it all goes to paying people's wages directly or indirectly, so cutting now will kill more jobs. He is stuck between managing job growth & debt.
A recession doesn't cause the government to increase their spending, unless you're a believer in Keynesian economics, which has proven time and time again that it doesn't work. What does any sane person do when they don't have the revenue to cover their expenses? THEY CUT SPENDING!!!! DING DING DING. What a concept!
Keynesian economics is certainly debatable, yet most economists who advise policymakers believe in it. Obviously Obama is a believer in Keynesian economics, but Bush disregarded all economists by taking the surplus he inherited from Clinton, and turned it into a massive deficit when the economy was BOOMING. Although tax cuts and prescription drug coverage is popular, Bush put the US into a structural deficit which Obama gets to take the blame for.

How is the captial gains tax that much lower than the corporate income tax? Captial gains is passive income and corporate income is active income. As far as I know anyway. I figure the passive income should be taxed higher. If anything, the corporate income tax should be 15% and the captial gains should be 30%.

Makes sure they are operating safely and they can make money and have free enterprise but with a watch dog who makes sure they are not criminals creating the people they are suppose to be helping.

But the government would make sure that the companies that make the house and the car are honest and not cheating the public.
The health care system is not doing unnecessary operations to send the doctor's wife to Hawaii. Rather than mal practice insurance they make sure a doctor is reliable and honest.

See, companies benefit more if they give you X treatments for X cash instead of a cure, because you'll, or your employer will be, forced to pay more money. Scandinavian health care is among the best in the world, and it's free for anyone who lives there.

When you combine top level aspects of socialism with the US's developed capitalist markets, you create a stalemate. That is what Obama has done. Look at FDR during and after the depression; nothing that he did stimulated the economy. He destroyed our credit and got LUCKY that Europe was comparatively worse than the US. What is especially alarming to me is NOT the fact that Obama is a Marxist. That's been obvious since the beginning. What disturbs me is the naivety that I see here and elsewhere. Penalizing the producers of wealth has never worked here, Russia or in Europe. Don't believe me? Go there and see the chronic unemployment, consistently in double digits.

In fact in a libertarian society socialism could flourish... all the socialists can get together and create programs for the poor, health care programs for the needy, education for free etc. And a lot of libertarians like me would join in!!! But forcing charity is bullshit. Forced charity isn't charity. I've never felt charitable on april 15th.

Firstly, Socialism is democratic. Communism uses force to achieve power.
Also, I'm sorry you feel that way about "forced charity." But I'd rather force those greedy, wealthy, pieces of garbage (the 5% who own 70% of the wealth in this country <- real figures) to be charitable than to see anyone homeless, struggling to pay hospital bills, or just struggling to live in general.
Socialism is only bad if you're in that 5%, and I'm not about to start defending the billionaires.

- Socialists are generally not wealthy people, and cannot afford to give tons of their money to charity.
- Yes, I honestly think taking the 5%'s wealth through force and guns to redistribute it is a good thing. But Socialism relies on the DEMOCRATIC PROCESS, not force and guns.

Socialism is about creating an equal playing field for its citizens. For example, say you get into college, how are you gonna pay for it? Student loans? Within a socialist system, its free.
Another example, say you get cancer but can't afford insurance: Socialism will make sure you are not buried under a pile of debt trying to survive.
What's not good about that?

Clarification to a previous post by Teriobrien...
GOV'T does NOT pay for our medicare, WE do and the companies we work for. It is supposed to go into a special fund, but congress stole all the money from it. NOW, the gov't has to borrow money from China to pay US back when anyone goes on medicare, social security and disability. WE earned it, WE put the money it, just like a bank acct, the gov't isn't "GIVING" it to us.

one problem with this way of thinking- gov't 'fairness' may be ok in theory, but in practice, it goes like this- a man needs pants, so the gov't takes someone else's shirt and gives socks to the guy who needed pants. the guy who had his shirt taken stops trying as hard, the guy that needed pants whines about getting socks instead of getting himself pants, and all the people who need socks are ignored.

I don't know if you're being rhetorical or if you genuinely don't get this, but raising one person's tax rate while lowering another to equalize the burden being placed on them by the government is not a direct reallocation from the first person to the second. It is a reaction to one person being unduly burdened, and since the government is the one applying the burden in the first place, it is on them to ensure that they are fair in how they apply it.

But, socialism is a poor system because 1) I believe in the philosophy that you don't work you don't eat...2) socialism also promotes penalties for success. Take Mark Cuban: he worked and made billions of dollars. He succeeded...under the socialist agenda, he should pay more into a "Robin Hood" type society...successful people are entitled to their money...no one else is.

At 2:30 of this video, Obama talks about how the $4 trillion debt that the Bush administration created is bad for our economy and that would change under his administration as President. Roughly three years later we're at $14 trillion in debt. Am I missing something here?

Yeah, there is this thing called a recession where unemployment increases and government revenue decreases (fewer people paying less in taxes). I won't say Bush caused it, nor does any president including Obama have much control over business cycles, but that is a major cause of worldwide deficits. Plus, Bush did cut taxes while starting 2 extremely expensive wars, and mandating a very expensive prescription drug plan for seniors, so much of these economic issues were predetermined.

So we can both agree that both parties have some blame in increasing the deficit and debt over the last 10 years. Maybe it's time for a third party. Obama campaigned on the promise of universal health care, and the people voted him in. He kept that promise, so if they don't like it they can kick him out again. When the gov. spends money, it all goes to paying people's wages directly or indirectly, so cutting now will kill more jobs. He is stuck between managing job growth & debt.

Keynesian economics is certainly debatable, yet most economists who advise policymakers believe in it. Obviously Obama is a believer in Keynesian economics, but Bush disregarded all economists by taking the surplus he inherited from Clinton, and turned it into a massive deficit when the economy was BOOMING. Although tax cuts and prescription drug coverage is popular, Bush put the US into a structural deficit which Obama gets to take the blame for.
