  • ok guys so me and my friend are debating, is this song about the statue of liberty? if a cop comes to take his liberties hes going to fight and like every lyric fits, my friend said its a homeless man who like lives around the statue "people give me quarters treat me like im famous" anyway, listen to the song imagining that..it actually seems plausible (i didnt believe my friend at first)

  • @Shchphinkter11 Apparently it's about an insane homeless man who is in love with a billboard

  • ummm It's in portland.... who doesn't smoke weed? most people are like hippie granola tree huggers. just sayin. i dont mean any disrespect but thats what it always seemed like to me.

  • he actually does smoke weed ..obviously u havnt been to any of his concerts moran

  • @jannotta1122 Does it matter that he smokes weed? His music should speak to you regardless. He is a true musician and you're sitting there and stereotyping him as a "stoner man and that's the only way people can enjoy his concerts/music" Not the case at all. No disrespect to you, but please listen to his lyrics.

  • I never knew Joaquin Phoenix could sing.

  • He isn't stoned or high on dope or anything.. if you read further about the man you would have discovered that he his a scar right next to his right eye from a childhood accident that gives him a lazy eye look. I would imagine he hates it so he plays it down by just lookin like hes fucked up all the time..

  • @DoTheEvolution00 even if he is stoned, he is still a great artist. :)

  • @DoTheEvolution00 How does he play it down by just bieng high all the time?

  • listen to Orion by Metallica main riff sounds exactly like this

  • @tennislaurence Naahhh brah, you crazy

  • @Dosmosable It's similar chords man :)

  • @tennislaurence Nah bro

  • this isn't about a billboard, its a metaphore for someone who will do anything to defend whats his, pablo picaso was a man who fell in love with his painting even though it wasn't real, i see it as a homeless man, maybe a drug adict, hes in love with the freedom and peace of mind he gets from it, the officer(our society, the govt, etc) is taking it away from him and he doesn't want let it go, but the feelings you get from the drugs are fake just like picaso's painting

  • @IngloriousBear Who's to say the things made out of paint aren't real?

  • @lokkentoons his love was real just as picaso's love for his painting was real, its the emotions of defending what you love, the things made out of pain are just as real as anything else, honestly im really bad at explaining the way I see things esp on youtube

  • Its about a famous movie star on a billboard and a homeless man that falls in love with it

  • One of most soulful songs for sure, creative in the way he tells it. The symbolism is a very nice touch, yes it's about a painting on the side of a building that he would stop at nothing to defend.

  • I love, love, love this guy.

  • Isnt that mr officer not pablo picasso?

  • @blankstar22 it's picasso, man. this song is dope.

  • This song gives me chills

  • Amazing and very unique voice

  • Citizen Cope is SO under-rated. His voice is so unique and his lyrics are so powerful. I think this is my all time favorite song of his. So tragic.

  • this dude is my favorite artist of alllllll timeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • How High does this guy get before his shows :)

  • @Windells89 look at him lmao, he is stoned out of his mind, but he is extremely talented

  • haha it should be the full name -

pablo diego jose francisco juan nepomuceno de los remedios crispin cipriano de la santisima trinidad ruis y picasso

  • hell yeah that guy is alsom, i like musician that can share emotion through his music

  • he looks like paul wesley

  • what did he do to make it so the sound on his guitar just stops like that?

  • @1234magicman4321 hes releasing tensions with his frettin hand muting the strings

  • @1234magicman4321 theres 2 ways of doing that, one is placing the palm of your strumming hand on the strings for a sec after the strum .. the other way is with the fretting hand realese preasure or place finger/s over all strings with little pressure on the strings just enough to slow the vibration.. wat ever method feels more comfortable works :)

  • @A7XMCR3DG ummm no their website says that this song is about heroine... that's nice tho....

  • Well their website says the song is about heroine.

  • I like this song. It's mystic and profound. Beautifully Out of the Ordinary.

  • Thanks for clearing that up!

  • word

  • hes fucked in this vid lol

  • what tuning is that? i want to try it

  • WHAT ARE THE CHORDS

  • Comment removed

  • Mr. Officer, if you come to take her then that means one of us, goin' end up in a stretcher.

  • how many tabs are in this song?

  • Pablo Picasso did 40 portraits of Sylvette David. I think this is what the song is about. There are 2 statues based off these portraits; one in Chicago and another on the NYU campus, and both have faced major controversy. Although neither is forty feet tall. The Chicago Picasso is 50 ft tall and the NYC Picasso is 36 ft tall. I think it has more to do with the portraits themselves.

  • Portrait of Sylvette was done by pablo picasso i think this song has somthing to do with it....

  • gotta support peope who can sing......................with no bullshit music

  • im dizzy

  • love i just got into his music this feeling its just amazing

  • repp m\that DMV my dude!! great music

  • had to look up the song that plays during the sons of anarchy promo and now i'm hooked on this guys stuff. he's got a great voice and a unique style.

  • @inhatredofme i went through the exact same thing. i love cope!

  • good idea for a song. i like cope.

  • i like the idea where the lady is a rare dimond and the poor man stole to feed his family and now hes on the run and the headlines get everywhere

  • what a song never heard it before fantastic thanks

  • he sounds great by him self but then i love accoustic music

  • whatever. he sounds great either way. he's like king midas. everything he touches turns to gold!!

  • I love Citizen Cope, but I feel he's one of the few artists that sound better with the band.

  • Umm. No.

  • you like him better without the band

  • Yeah. He came here and did an "acoustic" (him with a drum machine for songs like Hurricane Waters) show and I liked it much more than his show with the full band.

  • I thought this was called mr. officer?

  • Nope -- Pablo Picasso

  • Not hard to miss the meaning in these lyrics...

. It's about a homeless guy who is in love with a women on a billboard. He thinks she is perfect & is going to defend her at all costs so no one takes her down. That's all he has

but yeah, this is a great song & this guy is really good. Great lyricist.

  • i think, along with several others i believe, that this song is actually about an artist who has made some sort of paiting/graffiti on a wall/building of a woman.

the song is called pablo picasso

and at one point he says

"but for some odd reason they calling you a painting"

but if i am right is not sure. this is just how i see the meaning of this song and it' lyrics

either way it is a great song

  • xxxFlobotxxx is right, its about a homeless man who is love with a women on a billboard, its easily my favorite song by this beautiful man.

  • hes talking about a homeless man who lives under a billboard that has a picture of a woman on it and is very protective of it thats why the helicopters are flying around him when he has the bottle and a stick

  • I like this song a lot, but that has to be one of the weakest acoustic version of any song I've ever heard.

  • whatever this song is truly about, its amazing and beautiful and amazing, as is he and i love it....

  • he's talking about mona lisa.

  • j'adore.....trop trop bien.superbe musique

  • This guy is great

  • this song is about a guy and how is girlfriend is considered to be to good for him and how he is struggling to live up to the expectations that other people have

  • I've always thought its simply about a picasso painting (some can be 40ft tall) and the obsession with famous artwork, maybe he's singing about a specific piece of his. The cars drive by the musuem to see this painting, illuminated by moonlight.

"I'll pretend I got a razor" worst thing to do to a painting.

"they keep calling u a painting", pretty obvious lyric.

Again, on another take, Picasso was a surrealist so, this song is perhaps meant to have many different, yet valid interpretations

  • Your mother looks like a maggot you bastard.

  • I think he talks about Statue of Liberty

    "The woman that I love

    Is forty feet tall

    She's a movie star

    She's all in the papers"

    "The light hit her features

    And the cars drive by

Just so they could see her

And she never bats an eye

    When someone takes her picture"

  • I think he is talking about a billboard. I absolutely love this song. My friend and I threw around the idea that the song is about a homeless old guy with dementia and the police are trying to take him away from a billboard that he thinks is in love with him. Then someone is trying to change the billboard and he pulls out a gun. I sounds out there but if you really think about it could be true. That is just what I feel.

  • Yeah i could go with that, Good interp dude

  • o my god , an angel is singing

  • no way is this average you should listen to some of his other songs..but hell yes to the stoner part haha

  • im in love with his music [:

  • wow, another artist who sounds so much better live than in the recording studio

  • it's not about the statue of liberty. last time i checked the statue of liberty is ALOT bigger than 40 feet tall and look at the title of the song. pablo picasso is an artist. Its about a painting of a women that the artist has grown attached to

  • wicked song wicked sound awsome love more then album one awsome cope he is all over the place - Scrubs,One Tree Hill so damn talented.

  • this is the song that made me realize how kick ass citizen cope is... all of his music is brilliant

  • true that LONG LIVE CITIZEN COPE!!!!

  • this guy is really good

  • I think its about this bum who sits on the corner by a prostitute or, get this it could be the Statue of Liberty...."40 feet tall, and at night the lights hit her features, and the cars all drive by to see her and take her picture!"

  • My thoughts are as follows

    "The woman that I love

    Is forty feet tall

    She's a movie star

    She's all in the papers"

Statue of Liberty...She is huge, In movies and papers..

  • "And everywhere i go

    People hand me quarters

And they pat me on the back

They treat me like im famous"

The way other countries treat Americans for being American.

  • Wow he sings this WAY to fast!

    but he soundsreallygood

  • He is so friggin good...stripped down and live actually sounds even better than the album track

  • No offence to those of you who think he's attractive but he seriously looks exactly like Hellboy. I can't unsee it.

  • I believe its either a billboard and a crazed bum or just a painting because of the end "for some odd reason they keep callin you a pinting"..My thoughts..

  • and you're from maryland or at least like maryland so your life must suck. u might as well just kill yourself already.

  • It's a gift in itself to accept who you are, to cherish that simple love and then bring the understanding that surpasses it all in a unique way.I love nature, it's peacuful,

relaxing, ya know:)this is him, all he felt at that moment(JOY). The beauty of a gift with such passion is the secret to the road less traveled, Keep it Funky Citizen's Got SOUL!

  • hm.. interesting to read what others think it's about... I always assumed he was a slightly deranged sidewalk artist... "everywhere i go, people hand me quarters and they pat me on my back, they treat me like i'm famous" "she never bats an eye when people take her picture" Yes, no? hm. I still prefer to think of it this way :D

  • Amazing love this song!

  • this guy rocks!

  • Go Go Go to see Citizen Cope, trust me

  • The song is about a painting he stole pretty much, and he's a bit crazy and believes it's an actual woman *smiles* hence the title of the song "pablo picasso"

Listen to the song closely and it'll make sense -- there's even a line that says "for some odd reason they keep calling her a painting"

    He's so brilliant.

  • great song

  • love this song!! great musician!

  • cool is the only word to describe

  • does anyone know what hes talking about in this song? is it a statue or something??

  • I'm not sure but i think he's in love with an actress and always sees her on billboards (the whole movie star and 40ft tall thing) and he maybe has mental issues or is homeless and i think he might kidnap her (the whole mr officer if you come to take us thing and also the whole 'they're calling me a nuisance')

I'm not sure though - its just my take on the song

  • wow Citizen Cope is very talented. Very passionate about his music. Great poetry, very inspiring. i will sure be adding a cover video to this beautiful song, to only compliment his talent

  • i cant wait to see him live, only 11 days left that i have to wait!
