  • @kshayk0 In order to be able to serve puffer fish, the chef needs to go through intensive training and examination. This is so they know how to remove the toxins from the fish's body. The license exam ends with the chef eating his own dish - therefore if he/she does not do it properly, they end up poisoning themselves. The toxins do not have a 100% mortality rate - it's all about keeping the victim alive until the effects wear off.

    They are also now farming non-toxic puffers

  • ive heard that if you eat a male puffer fish, youre ok. but If you eat a female, you may eat a part of the fish thats poisonous and die. thats why in japan, a dish of pufferfish would cost 400 dollars in our money.
