I saw this in DC and started bawling during the Intermission. I had gotten my hopes up so high for Baranski, but she just didn't cut it. She played Mame more like "Mary Ann," with the attendant jadedness, which is the antithesis of Mame's sense of wonder. The only thing she got right, IMO, was at the end with "He Walked into My Life" and she was stunning with that.
@Eyllek2 I think Baranski's talents would have been better utilized in the part of Vera Charles-- she just doesn't exude the necessary qualities Mame needs, and I'm not knocking her as a performer. Her acerbic wit and great comedic timing would have been perfect for Vera. I can't think of anyone currently on Broadway who would make a great Mame, except maybe Christine Ebersole.
I started off thinking that Onna White's staging could not be topped, but once the dance break happens, I think Warren Carlyles' work is superior and more exciting. A really wonderfully built production number that grows and grows, thanks so much for posting. It's a pity New York never got to see this production, it is so very much head and shoulders above what passes for great musicals on Broadway now, people have forgotten what true musical theatre artistry is.

Very intricate choreography. I'm more used to the original Onna White version, but I like this too.
