hey orangeblood - it is a bad call because those types of 'push offs' happen on nearly every play and aren't called. I bet the ref did a fist bump after calling it just like in the colorado game a few years ago.
Is someone actually suggesting that the receiver didn't push off Brown? Best case, it's offsetting, but the seperation created by Gordon by pushing off is why he caught the ball. He approached like he was blocking, and Brown stepped up to meet the block while watching the play unfold which is when he realized it was a pass, but at that point, Gordon had created the separation he needed.
It was a solid if controversial call. If you can watch that and say it's a poor call, you don't know FB
Mangino backed off from his comments in a statement released Saturday night.
"After an emotional loss, in our seniors' last home game, I made remarks that I regret," Mangino said. "Any implications that BCS standings played a role in Saturday afternoon's game was inappropriate. I have always supported the BCS system and will continue to do so."
Mangino was and still is a quality coach. "Abuse"gate of 2009 destroyed him, Jim Leavitt, and most notably, Mike Leach. However, the press didn't want you know that Mangino was actually fired for eating several players, three assistant coaches, eight cheerleaders, and the poor student in the Jayhawk mascot.
You say the receiver pushed off after the line of scrimmage, but if I remember the rules of football correctly contact by either player is legal within 5 yards. Bad call says a fan with no interest in either of these 2 teams. No call would have been more appropriate unless the ball was in the air at the time of contact.
mack brown should have stayed at unc. *sigh* he came into John Swafford's (then-AD of UNC) and said 'If you can pay me as much as you paid Bill Gutheridge, then I will stay'. He couldn't do it, so he went to Texas. UNC could have won national championships with Brown still there.
you idiots. he NEVER said anything about cheating. he stated that the referees made a biased call which is the 100% truth. someone who would disagree with that is only turning a blind eye. this game was given to texas and its easy for texas fans to say "well we won, quit bein bitter, sore loser, etc" because your team was favored. if it was the other way around don't any of you act like you wouldn't be annoyed and do the same thing. mangino was right here and this is always the case w/ texas
blah blah blah, its just kansas, who cares if they cheat a little, they've always been a non-factor anyway. I was thinking this vid was going to show mangino in a texas sized mouth spittin tyrade on a poor 3rd stringer. Good grief ku sucked this year.
the penalty got called. he was mad because he didn't think it was an offensive pass interference. he was insinuating that texas gets all the calls because of $....which is absolutely true.
He's insinuating it because blaming the bcs is the easy thing to do after a loss. We all know a better player will get away with violations, but it's like that in every sport, especially basketball. They may not have called it for say, Crabtree, Heyward-Bey, Nicks, etc. Big deal.
WOW seems like everyone is taking Leach101, im really surprised you dont hear him talk on the TV about how everyone in the Big 12 are stealing his "Why we keep losing to Texas" excuses!
a DB is entitled to the spot where he is standing, when a receiver moves him from that spot, its obviously pass interference... and plus KU cant whine about that call when the real reason they lost the game is because they let vince young complete a 4th and a mile long conversion by RUNNING THE BALL BY HIMSELF... VY is superman...
The 4th & 18 play would have never happened if the PI is not called.
The PI call was a typical situation. DBs and WRs meet like that all the time. Both players used their hands. Charles used a swim move and got open, like he often did(and many WRs across the country). It also happened well before the ball was in the air. This call is never made, especially at such a vital time in the game.
Oh, and a KU defender was blatantly held on the 4th & 18 play.
dude... 4TH AND 18!!!! if they have more yards to go on 4th down then they have players on the field, and you still cant stop them? maybe your just not a good football team... whine and cry all you want, KU sure is better at that then they are at their defense
Fancy way to get around that the WR *only* got open because he used his extended hands to dislodge the defender from being able to stay in position. EASY call for any decent ref.
I'm not going to even try to compare Kansas and Texas in football, that was pass interference. You can't say that Mangino hasn't done something for Kansas. He's changed the whole program.. It's a respectable team now and teams are actually worried nowadays.. As a Kansas fan, I hope he continues to build the program. Rock Chalk Jayhawk
P.S.
Go BIG IX!!!!
.................... except Mizzou!! M I Z - L O L
Whatever...I think we can all agree that the Big 12 is the best conference in the land. Texas and Oklahoma, keep kicking ass at football. We'll hold up our end with basketball (and a little football).
actually is was about 12-15 yards down field. And anyone who isnt a biased observer can obviously tell that the reciever had planned that out from the get go. He ran directly at the DB extended his arms and plus the ball had been thrown before the reciever was even open which tells me that the QB knew he would push off to get open.
sure you can run at the DB but you cant extend your arms and push off. Just watch the upper body motion of the DB and look at his shoulders rock back and the change in his momentum that doesnt match his initial movement. That alone is evidence that he was shoved. It was a calculated risk that the WR took, it honestly happens alot. But sometimes you get caught. It's just like holding, linemen do it all the time, sometimes they get away with it, sometimes they get flagged.
LOL. Having your arms out isn't a foul if they aren't touching anyone. KU receiver, objectively, caused the contact and used his hands to move the Texas defender to the right so he could cut left. Easy call.
