  • Trust me, I have been practicing this piece for 2 years and u play it 8x better, makes me cry

  • Well I don't know what to do now, sing this boy's talent from the highest rooftops or beat him to death from sheer envy.. I'll sing his praises. Wow, what a performance from one so young. This Boellmann suite is probably my all time favorite, especially the Toccata. I'm a brass player but I would love to be able to play the organ (even a piano) but I can't and that is why I'm so jealous. Keep up this fantastic work young man, a talent like yours will go far.

  • Good performance. HORRIBLE AUDIO!!

  • WOW,,ummmmm WOW other than that, I'm speachless

  • Heavens, how old were you when you played this??

  • wow!!!

  • Great job kiddo!!!! You remind me of myself when I was your age...I think I learned this piece as well when I was about 10 years old. Keep up the great work, you have the talent!!!

  • Well done indeed. The speed is just fine, I heard a recording just like in the 80s. A little bit of frenzied energy is just what is need.

  • I agree with selarmyar. Take it slow. I know what its like when your young you wanna play fast and make the thing roar. but Musically slow it down a bit. and it will become Much better.

  • Great interpretation! BUT way, way , way to fast. It is not a race to the ending. Take it a bit slower and you will see that the voicing will be clear. Other than that WOW!

  • So, Rory, everyone is waiting for more posts. You are one of the 2 best young organists I found on YouTube, and I want to encourage you to continue practicing, playing, and posting. The pipe organ needs new blood to stay a viable instrument. Keep it up.

  • wow rory you are really great at the organ WTG keep it up!

  • Wow. You are one talent young man!!!!! Keep the videos running!!! I am going to attempt to learn the Suite Gothique in my end of year 2 month holiday. You are quite an inspiration for me now...... :D

  • Rory Lipkis is now 14 and is a composer, singer and organist from Bethlehem, PA, where his father teaches music composition at Moravian College.

  • Wow rory! Excellent. I am 15 years old. Been playing organ for 2 years. Have not played for a while for financial reasons and have no practice organ sadly. But you give me hope! One day I will play again, and hope to become as good as you, I hope.

  • Not all on same manual next time! But you are excellent.

  • Here's what I do:

    Sw-8,4, Foundations and Reeds

    Gt-Foundations 8, 4

    Choir-foundations 8-4

Other Manuals if larger organ--Fdns 8-4

Ped--32, 16, 8, 4 foundations, 8,4 ENCLOSED pedal reeds if available all mans to ped.

Gt-choir reversable (if available) Gt. Unison Off, choir/pos to great. and play away! I don't use a crescendo pedal. I set pistons and start to build at the modulation, opening the swell and choir/positif little by little.

  • Rory - I represent the Organist Safety Council. You are hereby required to use a seat belt to prevent you from slipping off the bench. ;-)

PS - ditto everything that has been said, plus some!!!

For those interested - I have a playlist "Young Organists", with 40+ organists under about 20 years of age. It has been linked to several Pipe Organ related sites, including Wikipedia's article "Organist"

  • Rory,

Outstanding. That is a difficult piece, and you played it so well. You have talent in spades!

  • ¡¡¡¡Helllllooooooo!!!, ¡¡¡You are amanzing!!!!, more please, ¡¡¡¡MOOOOORREEEE!!!....

  • BRAVO, Rory!!!! Well done! You should be proud of your accomplishment in playing this difficult piece. I have many recordings of this piece, played by organists well beyond your age and skill. Your playing here demonstrates you have their skill and abilities at the organ, but at such a young age!

  • Awesome - how old is this young man?

  • Great Stuff!

  • BRAVO ! ! ! 5 *

  • yeah rory!!!!

  • very difficult piece, very well performed !

In a same style, do you know Eugène Gigout's works (another french composer :-) ? The "Toccata" in B minor ("H-Moll", or "Si mineur") is wonderful, and I'm sure you could perform it.

On what organ do you play ? Is it in a church ? There is not so much echo (reverb) there, here in Europe we often have a lot more.

    Great performance !

  • I was actually going to post the b minor toccata today, but I didn't have time.

  • @roryorgan Wunderful! Great tempo, registration, and sensitive musicianship. It reminds me of the recording by the former organist of the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral about 40 years ago. It came out on LP first, but I was able to find a CD transcription of it. Your performance is quite similar to his. Have you tried the Byzantine Sketches (Esquisses Byzantines) by Henri Mulet? You would be able to play them wondefully too, especially the Tu Es Petra.

  • @roryorgan P.S.: TheLiverpool Cathedral organist whose name I (embarassingly!) forgot was Noel Rawsthorne.

Where were you when you recorded this? From the limited view of the background it seems to be a church. if so, it must be good sized to have such a large organ. But the acoustics seem dead - minimal, if any, reverberation, unless this was closely miked from the organ loft.

  • @roryorgan I am still waiting for that post, as well as the Mulet Tu Es Petra. Keep playing and posting. With your talent I see you as an the organist in a place like the Washington National Cathedral.

  • @SimplyDavid42 Oh yes there is, If you ever come to England and listen to any pipe organ played in an Anglican (Church of England) Church there is immense reverb, this is because the churches tend to have bare stone walls and stone floors. The reverb adds to it.

  • @hatstalker - not true! Many is the Anglican church in England that is as dead as a dodo acoustically. Ewell Parish Church, with its fine 43-rank Father Willis, is one such example. Most small village churches, also, are very dead, and even big ones can be if (like Leeds Parish Church) encumbered with side-galleries. One strikes lucky from time to time, but dry acoustics are the rule rather the exception.

  • @EccentricRichard Where I am. All the parish churches are as I described. I was of course exaggerating but you understand my point. All the churches in my area (Ryedale North Yorkshire) are fantastic for acoustics.

  • @hatstalker Actually, stone walls, floors, and ceilings add to the reverb, not the other way around.

  • @trompettechamade1 Read what i said again...... I just said that we have lots of reverb because of that.... It's a good thing in my eyes. :-D I wond begrudge a simple misunderstanding though! :P

  • @hatstalker I did misread it. Should I recite a few meaculpas and listen to a Rodgers Electric organ for penance? In the US, most churches are carpeted and/or have acoustically absorbing tiles that deaden the sound, even some of thequite large sound. Some of them, like the Riverside Church and Our Lady of refuge in NYc, are installing acoustically live ceilings to help propagate the organ's sound down the nave. I wish moe good-sized churches would follow their example.
