Aluminum piston vs DRM stainless steel piston

This was very helpful, thanks. I have been thinking about putting aluminium pistons into my calipers on my race bike. This is good to know that aluminium transfers the heat so quick. I have heard about having the aluminium teflon lined, do you know anything about this? Thanks, Jay

I’m sorry but what does this prove? Al has a different thermal coefficient that SS – the al will transfer heat faster. The second part of this test should be that once they’re both up to temp, the SS will take a lot longer to cool down than the Al will.

The thermal coefficient is the point. The brake fluid is heated up from the pad temps. Having a SS piston will transfer less heat into the fluid. Causing longer seal life, less chance of boiling brake fluid and keeping the O.D. from changing as much as the heat goes up and down. Pretty simple idea with many racing miles to prove the theory. We did the simple test to prove the idea mostly for sales. Yes they work on the front GTO calipers!
