Gotta go with the majoirty on this. Tripod is better in my book. FotC has a few clever bits, but I have yet to find a Tripod song that doesn't get me to smile or chuckle.
FotC may have a show on HBO, but Tripod is ALL OVER Australian TV (just look at the clips) as a band and as solo acts.
I would defintely say Tripod is better...FotC is cool, but they don't sound as good as Tripod, and personally, I gave them quite a chance a while ago, but only ended up liking 2 or 3 of their songs.
They are pretty different styles of humor. I wouldnt say that one is particularly better than the other. The conchords have more of a dry humor, while Tripod is a bit geekier and more "intelligent". I will say that Tripod is definitely better at song writing and singing.
Tripod are awesome, the humour just doesn't always transfer into other cultures. I've been to their shows and as soon as the "I've just gotta finish this level" line comes out there is a defining cascade of laughter.

Tripod have been around a year longer. That song is an old one of theirs. Its also a great song, but hey, if you enjoy FotC (which I haven't yet, really would love a recommendation as the 5 clips I've seen by them weren't funny to me), then maybe they appeal to different types of audiences.

I absolutely love Tripod, but cannot stand Flight of the Concords.
Tripod are very musically talented, and I enjoy their humour. Would love to see them live sometime if they ever came to my side of Australia.
