G n R made several Stairway to Heaven-level epic songs, in large part because of Slash's playing--and *writing.* Is he the greatest of all time? I don't deny that those notes could give you emotions but his playing is poor, and he is overrated. Now you can listen whatever you like, absolutely, but his playing is just poor, and nothing special, just the same things that everyone plays over and over, the same bluesy licks etc. I like to think at music as something more than just that. And still I find GnR a mediocre band at best.
Problem with most people today, they think that Rock/Metal is dead. Yes, Slash is one of the best.... for his time (80's/90's) but, just like everything, it progresses. The two best guitar players in the world (in my opinion) are Tosin Abasi and Misha Mansoor. I'm not saying Slash isn't good, he just has very simple capabilities compared to these two. Look them up.

It's trendy to say Slash is overrated. People think they sound sophisticated by saying it.. Slash is undeniably great. That's why he's so famous. He didn't luck into G n R. G n R made several Stairway to Heaven-level epic songs, in large part because of Slash's playing--and *writing.* Is he the greatest of all time? I don't know, but he's great, and there certainly have not been many better. That's why he's still going 20 years later. Slash is a player and a composer of the highest order.

Slash is really overrated, all he does is just doing the same licks over and over, in every solo... he doesn't do a single intonated bending, he doesn't do a single timed vibrato, ever. and let's talk about writing, the songs are banal and simple, and by the way, izzy was the writer of the majority of them... and please, a player and composer of the higher order? you need to listen to music

@BeboRock91 Guitar is so much more than intonated bending and timed vibratos. Guitar is about the SOUL. Vinnie Vincent could shred with anyone on the planet but his playing was HOLLOW. When you put on Sweet Child O Mine and you hear those opening notes and it hypnotizes you and takes you back to a time and place...that's what music is about. The 5th graders at my kid's school know these songs and they're 11. They don't give a damn about Yngwie Malmsteen. Understand?

@grantorino2009 everytime everyone talks about SOUL, as of something undeniable and objective, well, it's not. I don't deny that those notes could give you emotions but his playing is poor, and he is overrated. Now you can listen whatever you like, absolutely, but his playing is just poor, and nothing special, just the same things that everyone plays over and over, the same bluesy licks etc. I like to think at music as something more than just that. And still I find GnR a mediocre band at best.

Problem with most people today, they think that Rock/Metal is dead. Yes, Slash is one of the best.... for his time (80's/90's) but, just like everything, it progresses. The two best guitar players in the world (in my opinion) are Tosin Abasi and Misha Mansoor. I'm not saying Slash isn't good, he just has very simple capabilities compared to these two. Look them up.
