  • My Mom had these records. As a rocking young child...I loved this song....used to jam out to it while my Mom hung the laundry out on the line ! Great times !

  • The GLory Years of the STONES should be the Mick Taylor Years!

  • I was 12 years old in '69 ...My sister bought their records since the start in the '60s...I always liked them as a little boy...but this song made me take my allowance money and buy my first Stones LP...been a diehard since...GOD made the STONES and The STONES are GODs..

  • @1stSaintsFan I have another great video of them live doing this song ..check out my videos :-)

  • @claptongroupie Thank you very much...I love Clapton...Saw him for the first time after the 461 Ocean Blvd. LP with Freddie King as the Opener. Shreveport and Clapton played a 30 minute set with King ...Heaven ...

  • Yeah ,this is probably the Stones` best, amongst many .It works you up or sumpin`, and you wanna make love to ya` girl when it`s on (I hope I haven`t been sexist with that statement by leaving gay people out ).

  • yum

  • sometimes the music may make me fart- and that's even better, it elicits a visceral response within... and drives a deeper appreciative notion. Sort of like a uterine orgasm for a lady?

  • great great Keith !!

  • Mick Taylor es sumamente mejor que Ronnie

  • Just so you all know...Keef plays all the guitars - including lead - on this track.

  • agreed!

  • even Bill Wyman looks pretty cool in this, and its Top of the Pops, try telling that to the kids these days ...

  • Mick Taylor was and is such a master at the guitar. And he was such a great looking guy! Yes, I love his smiles in this song!!!! He was the "baby" of the group and did most of the leads on their songs while he was with them. Keith did most of the rhythm... Like I said, a master guitarist!

  • Mick Taylor is such an amazing guitarist - i know i'm not the only one who thinks this was the Stones' best line-up, but Richards was just such an asshole to him - it's no wonder he booked after 5 years

  • Love it! Thanks

  • my favorite song by my favorite Stones lineup :) even though I love Brian Jones AND Ronnie Wood as well :) but Mick Taylor.... WOW

  • @Gina97xls one of the best songs EVER!!

  • Mick and Mick!!!!

  • They are young and fired up in this video, like rock & roll is supposed to be. It's for the youngens, like we all were at one time.

  • THE greatest song ever written!......... Probably.

  • @stuckin1968 I agree. Thanks for stopping by and enjoying it!

  • @claptongroupie

    My pleasure!

  • anyway, it's just a shot away !

  • Keith plays all the lead on this song not Mick.

  • Typical TV b,s.. During the solo they zoom in for a close-up of...Bill Wyman? And then of Keiths' BACK!

  • This is rather unique as MT smiled at the commencement and he's just so good looking.

  • just a kiss away!

  • This is probably the best rendition of this song aside from the studio tack.

  • @kanelitwiniec - It's air band. They're not really playing.

  • who's on the wash board...Charlie seems too interested for that gig!!

  • Great clip....awesome tune

  • i love this song, but the video is mick singing to a recorded backing track, where is the harmonica coming from?????

  • Grand Funks' version is better, IMO.

  • I dont know how many times I have commentated on this video, but STILL UNTOUCHABLE HERE.

  • Why do people think this version is off the album, the female back ups are gone, the guitar is unique and jagger is clearly live.

  • @bustballz

While he's fuccing your Mom AND GF in a threeway.

  • @bigstink9 you are a fucking FAG, ,too. lmfao...go suck that faggot's cock you butt-slammer. lol

  • mick taylor devastante

  • This version is taken from the album"Let it bleed" and all guitar parts are played by Keith!

  • Love the username :)

  • @playingforbritain Thanks!

  • uuhhmmm Keith Richards played all of the guitar parts on this song.

  • My fav period as well. This has to be close to Dec of 69. I'm a fanatic of the film Gimme Shelter, and here MJ has that same Leo shirt on, and his hair length and Keiths, they all look very close to the scenes in GS, where they're at Muscle Shoals studios. As far as I'm concerned their best period. I don't even own anything after Steel Wheels. It just isn't good. After Undercover, their sound changed drastically.

  • from Mexico, the Rolling Stones are the best band of rock, and the living momies, please give the secrets... I need reyoung my face; tell me Do you use cream of donky milk?, please, Do you use iron for your skin? I want be young again!!!!!!!

  • @juanfaus71

I would say one of the worst bands ...

  • @anonymusum whatever......

  • @anonymusum how do you figure?

  • from Mexico, the Rolling Stones are the best band of rock, and the living momies, please give the secrets... I need reyoung my face; tell me Do you use crea of donky milk?, please, Do you use iron for your skin? I want be young again!!!!!!!

  • All hail Mick Taylor. Definitely the best era in Stones history, although Nicky Hopkins' piano is sorely missing from this version.

  • I don't think this is a recording. The vocals are too raw compared to what was on the record. Where is the high backup vocals? As far as who played what on the record I don't have a clue. I don't think Richards would be the only guitarist to play. He isn't that egotistical a guitarist and I know he admired Taylor as a guitarist. But I guess ya just never know.

  • Mick Taylor is soooo motherfucking smexxii!!!

  • The one thing I miss most about them playing this song now is Mick Taylor's awesome lead guitar lick at 0:35 to 0:42. That was always my favorite part of the song!

  • this by far one of my all time greatest songs.

i have to say though that i got to hear it first while watching another all time masterpiece: Goodfellas

it seems that Scorseci has been in love with this song as well.

  • Mick is a sexy bitch here...I loved the Mick Taylor years..

  • anytime u see a live performance with talor with the stones u know it's gonna be amazing what the hell were they thinking when they let him leave they really fucked up not giving him the credit he desserved they shoulda been kissing his ass after losing brian jones they were lucky to find a guitar player that damn good and they let him go and they never come out with anything that even comes close to there music with taylor or jones

  • Aww look at Mick Taylor's sweet little face the whole time! He smiles and everything! I just wanna go up der and give im a pinch on the cheek!!! Love tht cute ass face!

Granted Mick Jagger smiles, but he was high as hell.

  • Greatest rock and roll song of all time.Taylor's slide and Merry Clayton's solo take it into the R@R stratosphere.

  • who is this group? they're pretty good.

  • @Salnsd Are you serious? ROLLING STONES

  • @Salnsd guns and roses! rsrsrs

  • @Salnsd Justin Bieber...

  • @Salnsd no, really: are you serious?

  • @Salnsd

    haaaahahahahahahahahhh :D

  • this version doesn't have Mary Clayton on it.

  • una canzone incredibile

  • dedicated to a real stones fan - mr hugh o gracie - gimme shelter ... gotta admit it he has great taste man ... one do he will be the burning BUSH

  • funny to see mick taylor using normal chords for this song, that doesn't even use a rhythym in 440.

  • WOW ! Absolutely ROCK SOLID. The Rolling Stones peaked when Mick Taylor was in the Band. They were amazingly creative musicians.

  • Mick Taylor is the best ok Keith

  • you can see that mick plays rythm guitar. so i think keith plays lead 0:27

  • @therollingstone95 u realize that this aint live

  • @Plimsoul97 yeah i know, but on let it bleed were only two song recorded with mick taylor (honky tonk women and live with me) keith played the rest all alone on guitar

  • @Plimsoul97 in the studio it wasn't taylor too, because the hole guitars on let it bleed were played by keith richards

  • This is the studio music track with a live vocal (I mean, who's playing the harp?). Very common for TV shows in those days. The mix is a little different though with the guitars being much louder than on "Let it Bleed." All the guitars were played by Keith.

  • @SMHannon100 You are correct...finally, someone who knows his music....Keith played all the guitar parts on the studio version.

  • Only Stones video I've ever seen where Keith was seen the least!

  • este tema es para tomar cocaína a full man!!!

  • I like Brain better..

  • The best...also..April 1972 show @ madison square garden NYC was Great!

So was the party @ the St Regis Hotel NY

  • Charlie Watts. So damn solid.

  • One thing that made this video-and there are MANY-is Bill Wyman.Man, is he scary or what in this?

  • mick (taylor/jagger) los mejores

la mejor epoca para the rolling stones desde 1969-1975

  • You can't tell when Jagger's stoned, or just being a bit of a character...

  • grandissimo mick taylor. la scuola di john mayall ha fatto il suo dovere

  • Mick Taylor is definitely playing rhythm not lead... I believe lead is Keith...

  • great song

  • One of the great reasons for growing up in the late 60s, and 70s.

  • The one thing I miss most about them playing this song now is Mick Taylor's awesome lead guitar lick at 0:35 to 0:42. That was always my favorite part of the song!

  • @mario64guy I agree, wouldn't it be great if they would do one more show with Taylor :-)

  • @mario64guy This is without Mick Taylor.. it is Keith playing all guitar.. the video is playback :)

  • @mario64guy : I think this is the studio version. Keith assumes the lead guitar...

  • @mario64guy i think it's keith who plays lead guitar.

  • @mario64guy I'm no expert, but I thought Keith Richards always played lead for this song, or at least on the studio version. I do agree that Mick is an amazing lead player, but correct me if I'm wrong about that...

  • @mario64guy ... it is Keith playing til lead.. Mick T joined The Stones after recording Gimme Shelter :)

  • @mario64guy this song lead's from keith richards. they are doing playback, (not jagger.) still, i agree live versions leads from MT are the best.

  • @mario64guy Mick Taylor did not play on this song!

  • @mario64guy Mick Taylor did not play on this song. That is Keith's lead. Check the liner notes of the Let IT Bleed album.

  • @mario64guy Mick taylor never recorded gimme shelter in studio. Its Keith. This is the studio version with jagger singing live

  • @mario64guy I don't understand the fascination with Mick Taylor. Anyway, if you check the album credits, I believe you will find that Keith played ALL of the guitars on the recording of Gimme Shelter. The music on this clip is from the original recording; Mick J. would sometimes sing a live vocal over the recorded background on TV appearances.

  • @TheMaestro214 It's the live concerts where Taylor really elevates the Stones. Lots of controversy about his creative contributions to the group. But there's not a bit of controversy about the decline in the live shows and I would argue their creativity as well. They looked & sounded like a deflated tire after Taylor left. If you know people over 50 who saw them with and without Taylor they will say the same. There was really NO COMPARISM. With Taylor, they were the best R&R band EVER.

  • @mario64guy the lead guitar is all keith, and obviously they are miming to the studio track.

  • @mario64guy the lead guitar is all keith, and obviously they are miming to the studio track. The live version with taylor isnt as good as the original in my opinion.

  • @mario64guy The music is the same as on Let it Bleed, only vocal is actually live. All guitars you hear are played by Keith. The awesome lead guitar lick is played by Keith.

  • @mario64guy The Mick Taylor catalog is my favorite part of their legacy. Think about it...Exile On Main Street, Let It Bleed and Sticky Fingers – all made in an astonishingly productive five-year period between 1969 and 1974, when Taylor was the Stones’ lead guitarist.

  • @mario64guy its one of the sweetest licks in the history of music, gives me goosebumps everytime..

  • @mario64guy ....that is obviously the original recording and the band is pretending to play live. Jagger's vocals are the only part that is live. The lead guitar is Keith not Mick Taylor on this piece.

  • @mario64guy that's keith playing all the guitars on this one.

  • It is interesting to note that mick sticks out like a sore thumb - his BMI, whilst still probably healthy (back then at least), maybe 25 ish, whilst mick apparently has maintained a bmi of a low 20...interesting.....

  • @c2105026 BMI?

  • @Gnomebe Body Mass Index....yes I have a great deal of interest in nutrition...yeh a bit off topic but an interesting observation.....essentially mick looks a healthy weight, mick and the rest of 'em look emaciated....

  • Actually, it's Gimme Shelter without Mick Taylor. This song is the studio version, all Keith on guitars. Good lip synching though...

  • @elvisvf51 Mick isn't lip syncing of course but M. Taylor looked a bit worried:)

  • 3:00 Jaggar's head rush is worrying Mick Taylor and even he's hoping things will be alright and starts singing the words:)

  • Love the way Jagger sings "sheltaah" in the last verse, pure rock and roll arrogance

  • Wow, that was unbelievable. Mick is absolutely on fire here.

  • great video btw mick taylor does not play a lick on this to be honest all guitars are keith. the song itself is keith's . taylor was part of the band by the time of it's release though

  • This Video is Awesome except whoever is filming it has missed probably the best part: footage of Keith's Guitar Work during this amazing song, especially the intro. How do you not catch Keith's Intro guitar work and in looks like Keith was doing the lead guitar on this version because every time I see M. Taylor he is doing rhythm strumming . Great to see these guys playing this song, I love it, what a cool video. Did you notice that no one was playing harmonica when that part came up? Hum

  • This song has been popular for about 40 years

  • @claptongroupie ..and it will be for about 40 yeras...

  • @claptongroupie It's timeless. This came out when I was 13 or 14...I'm 54 now and it's as bad ass as it was when I was a kid. This is how you define perfection.

  • @dawnh8557 I totally agree :-)

  • to bad a video game is going to make this song popular

  • if u knew about the rolling stones ud know that they were all stoned as fuck thats how they made music

  • I still don't get it, how come the Beatles manage so much hype when it's obvious the Stones have way better songs and music in general....anyway they still around so I'm happy :)

  • @fenrriho 100% true, the stones are way better than the beatles. The beatles continue get hyped cause that is all that is left. Half the band is dead and their fans hang on to the past and reissued recordings trying to recapture the past. Fortunately the stones have continued on, truly standing the test of time!

  • he is a better singer , however they really need the girl back up singer it makes the song....

  • Great singer and amazing song!! The rest is just gossip and garbage!!

  • @Luarrangel I agree..glad you enjoyed it :-)

  • lol love the way mick was dancing

  • No, Charlie's NOT stoned. This (and Honky Tonk W) were taped THE DAY after Brian Jones died. None of them wanted to be there but they made the commitment prior to that.

  • @stevenjromero

This was actually taped 6 months after Brian died, in Dec. '69. You're thinking of the taping of You Can't Always Get What You Want on the David Frost Show (also on youtube).

  • @stevenjromero I think they are all stoned..Jagger has a major head rush, and they all look like they have a buzz . But who cares anyway if they are or aren't ..their still the Stones :D

  • @stevenjromero According to the Stones chronicle, this was taped on December the 12th which was after Altamont

  • @stevenjromero Watts is a former heroin addict.

  • Backing track off the studio version, with live vocals. Meh.

  • is it just me, or does the drummer look stoned...

  • @herogodman76 yes it looks like Charlie is, but he never got heavy into drugs..

  • @herogodman76 Rolling stones???? do you not get it?? lol they have all smoked weed xD

  • @DoWieFX

They're named after a Muddy Waters blues song, "Rolling Stone."

  • personifies young wild sexy energy..........brought forth

  • @billyjo1881 Actually about vietnam XD

  • Nice. But not enough Keef!

  • Only keith play guitar in gimme shelter !

  • @ihadadreamcrazydream yeah..ok....

  • My favorite song ever. Really. It's taken me half my life to decide which of all of them was my all-time favorite of any kind. This is so easily it. I recall getting "Hot Rocks One" with this song, and "Midnight Rambler" on the same side... They never sounded half as good after Mick Taylor left the band.

  • LOVE IT! just reminds me why this is my all time favorite Stones song.i can remember dancing around to this song when i was a little girl! Thanks for putting this up! I'm saving it!

  • @suziebar63 Its my favorite song by them too. I try to find every version I can of it. Glad you enjoyed it :-)

  • Gosh don't know why ... could be because I was one of the children of the Revolution ... it touch me soooo much in the 70s but surely did and is one of my fav.

    Appreciate the post... :-)

  • this has wickedness, sex, and magic written all over it ...

  • Class of 69'

  • This is their best song EVER!!!! I've played it at least 20 times already! LOL Mick Taylor is SO adorable ;)

  • Vocals are not playback... And i thijk guitars too and maybe all are played live.....or ??? I can compare this to many versions and its not same....Mabe im lost...BUT great Song...Best stones song IMO specially Mt era live versionS

  • @mynthon11 Vocals are definitely live. Powerful, apocalyptic song. Resonates down the years. Still has the ability to make the hairs on my neck stand up.

  • @PressAnyKey2Start

Indeed...Awesome song...Have You checked the Stones live at Brussels 1973 version?Or Australia 1973...Oh man the band is BURNING THERE!!!

But GIMME SHELTER AND STONES ALL THE WAY!

  • BEST SONG EVER!!!

  • Thanks for the upload, claptongroupie !

  • Shame the endings cut off, it should.....FADE AWAY!!!!
