Absolutely brilliant cover, Buddy. All of your covers are so well made. Quick question: how did you learn this particular song? Did you use Andy Aledort's Electric Ladyland how to video by any chance?
@LtMusicDude Thanks! Actually, I don't do anything but listen to the songs and then I more or less visualize how they might be played and then go at it. Sometimes I hit it "right" the first time I hear it and sometimes I have to work on it a bit...but most of the time it's pretty quick for me to hear a song then play it. I don't read music so I always play by ear and I play in standard tuning.
Are you in E-Flat for this particular cover Buddy? I would like to try and play along as well as learn how you play this fantastic song. Excellent work anyway.
Thanks! The pickups in this one are the vintage noiseless pickups which were first put in American Deluxe Models before the SNC Noiseless pickups were used by Fender. -BC
Nice job! I've been playing for 2 years now and I just have to ask you. I suppose you don't use tabs and I wish I didnt have too neither. How do I train my ear so I can figure out songs on my own? Any tips?
Thanks! I wish I could explain it...but it is something that I have always been able to do. I do regret not having the formal music theory and training in my background because I'm sure it would make some things easier to master. -BC
Thank you. This is a relatively simple Hendrix song to cover but there are some suble things going on in terms of chord voicings that take this song to another level. I wish I had played the leads on this one...but I did it quickly...and just decided to leave it as it was. Maybe next time... -BC
That was it !!!! yeah, definitly one of the best cover of this song i've seen on you tube... You've got the right feeling... I also play by hear, and i think that's the secret to play an hendrix song... specialy for this song without a standard rythm... thanks you
For me playing by ear is easier. It usually only takes a few minutes for me to work out a song playing by ear...then if it's a challenge, a little practice...but normally I can pick out the parts to a song very quickly. -BC
I just figured this out by ear too i was just too lazy to before. The key to learning by ear is repeat repeat repeat and learn the song in small parts don't get ahead of yourself, also if you can slow the song down that helps a lot too
nice cover. I see a les paul in the background. honestly which one do your prefer, the strat or paul.. don't say both.. make a choice if you had only one.. peace
Hendrixfann, why do you keep asking for tabs if you must know full well that you can get them by putting in the key words into any search engine? Use some initiative, friend.
BuddyClontz: I actually saw Jimi do this live in London at an after hours jam session. It was when the song was in it's infancy and before he'd named it. I've got to say you've done it WONDERFULLY!! It's a VERY difficult song to do because of the timing which seems to switch from 3/4 to 4/4 & God knows what else. Plus the tricky hammer-ons. Adlexi; If you type "Max's Hendrix Enclave" you should find a tab which is close enough to Buddy's solo here. You have to look for the "Loose Ends" version of this tune. (that was the 1973 album it was released on)
Hello chap. Such a great track - I only heard it for the first time yesterday when I found a John Frusciante interview where he was talking about Hendrix. You sound great. I'm now going to use your video as a guide so I can learn it too, so thank you. I love the way hendrix uses the licks within the chords and this stuff is in the same mind set as little wing.
Dr9000; Actually when i saw Hendrix do this originally he introduced it as a tribute to Curtis Mayfield & The Impressions. His style of partial chords and double stops was borrowed directly from Curtis although Jimi took the whole idea to another level. He was unbelievable. 41 years since he hit the scene and we're still talking about him!
Awsome I doubt you use tabs but any tab's by chance or a lesson for this video or sorry if there already is one but I love this song it's so beautiful and would love to play it great job thanks 5/5
Nice ! Best piece of electric guitar music of all time. My opinion. The guitar track alone as Hendrix recorded is way better than the song on the album. You also have great tone.
helmsly: Yes,the instrumental version was far superior in my opinion also. The vocal version seemed abit cramped and overprocessed.
