It's a sad reflection on our society that people like Britney Spears have so many hits, and Beatrice Harrison with her melodious tribute has so few. I will always love this. I also have a couple of books by Richard Mabey which I treasure, I shall try to find the Saga article on line.
@spannerworks1 Well I have had no luck searching for that article, but this recording continues to delight me. I can imagine Beatrice night after night, in her garden, playing to the nightingale. You are so lucky to have this treasure, and I cannot thank you enough for sharing it with us.
Thank you so much for sharing this. I'd read a lovely article in the April 2010 issue of Saga Magazine but couldn't get the audio links to play. You may wish to read the article.
Duet for strings and beak
Nightingales are becoming increasingly rare in Britain. In a new book, naturalist Richard Mabey pays homage to them and recalls an episode in which a cellist enthralled the nation by duetting with one of these magical birds
