Hey I've heard that they've been doing a restoration project in Salton Sea, have places like this completely been destroyed or are there still areas like that around? I'm so fascinated by this and I'd really like to go down and take a look first hand, but with all the talk of restoration, I don't want to go all the way out to find everything has changed. Any information would be very helpful! Thank you.
@NewspeakRasta There's been lots of TALK about restoring the Salton Sea, but nothing has actually been done - yet - to restore the lake. A building next to the lake - the North Shore Yacht Club - was recently restored, however. Fixing the lake will take billions of dollars (which California doesn't have) and many years to fix. Unfortunately, nothing is likely to be done anytime soon. Still LOTs of abandonment surrounding the Sea. Check out my Flickr photos (link is on my profile page).
My Flickr photos are all mapped/geotagged. The abandoned North Shore Motel is gone now, but most of the other rotting and abandoned stuff is still there. Have a look at my Flickr. If you have questions about something in particular, feel free to ask. :-)

Most of the time, the smell isn't too bad - it's only strong when it's been hot outside for a while and the algae dies off. There aren't a LOT of dead fish washing ashore these days.
